[Wii] Nintendo following Sony, releasing value model of the Wii in Europe

[Wii] Nintendo following Sony, releasing value model of the Wii in Europe

Yesterday Sony announced a value PSP model, it seems that Nintendo are taking this philosophy and applying it to the Nintendo Wii.

The new bundle has been announced for Europe, Nintendo states that they believe they'll focus on this new budget bundle moving forward. This model seems designed specifically to lay horizontally and ditches all forms of Nintendo Gamecube support (including the ability to read the discs and the controller / memory ports).

The bundle comes with the Wii, a Wii Remote and Nunchuck, Wii Party and Wii Sports.

No pricing details have been announced at this point.

While it'll be cheaper to produce, do you really think the GameCube hardware in the Wii really contributed that much to the cost?

[GC'11, PSP] New Value PSP Model Announced

[GC'11, PSP] New Value PSP Model Announced
[Image: game-news-image-2011-88ec09c06404d64da3f...4f6e15.jpg]
A new PSP model was revealed at Gamescom, this one aimed squarely at those light of wallet. The PSP E-1000 isn't about adding new features, but rather about removing them. This €99.99 model will have a fresh design with a new "Charcoal Black" matte finish (same as the PS3 slim model), but will not include Wi-Fi. That's right, while buyers will get full access to the consoles UMD library, the only way to access the PlayStation Store is through Sony's Media Go software. The PSP E-1000 is expected to launch in Europe sometime this fall. No word yet on release in other territories.

Sony also announced that a number of €9.99 PSP Essentials titles will be released at the same time, including Invizimals: The Lost Tribes, EyePet Adventures, and FIFA 12.

So are they going to give it a special name? The "~PSP Go" seems fitting.

[Multi] Rovio believes their value is "north of PopCap's"

Electronic Arts purchased PopCap for a cool billion dollars, but Angry Birds developer (Rovio) believes that their value is north of PopCap's.

Ville Heijari, vice president of franchise development, believes their value is "north of PopCap". “A lot of people look at our game and say, ‘Who do these guys think they are with their one title?’” Heijari added. He noted that in addition to the PopCap deal, another Rovio peer, Zynga is “aiming for a $US1 billion [initial public offering.]” Heijari also talks about how they are perceived for only really having one major release and goes on to explain that the subtle differences in both Seasons and Rio make up for the fact that they are using the Angry Birds property.

According to Heijari, Rovio had received several inquiries last summer involving companies looking to show interest in purchasing them but they hadn't taken any serious offers on board.

Rovio's ever-increasing own vision of their self-worth is impressive, but they seem to forget that they are only really known for one IP, Angry Birds. PopCap are known for several big properties, so this can most likely be chalked up to be all talk.
