Nintendo Investor Briefing 1/26/12 News

A bunch of news coming from the Nintendo investor briefing! Here’s a summary:

New 2D side-scrolling Super Mario game coming for 3DS in the next fiscal year (which means from April 2012 through March 2013).Final version of Wii U revealed at E3.Wii U will release in Japan, US, Europe, and Australia sometime between E3 and the end of the year… but in time for the year-end sales season.Wii U controller will have Near Field Communication (NFC) support, which will allow for the creation of cards and figurines that can read and write data when they are put near the controller. This will allow for various possibilities like using it as a means of making micropayments. (If you’re having trouble understanding this, think Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure)Announcing the “Nintendo Network.” Nintendo Network is the new online service for both 3DS and Wii U. Unlike the previous Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, this will cover a wide range of things like competitions, communication among users, and sales of digital content for example. The communities in Mario Kart 7 are part of the Nintendo Network. The photo booth app Nintendo released on the eShop in Japan recently is the first title to have paid DLC, and this will be available in the near future. The first retail title to have DLC will be Theatrhythm Final Fantasy in Japan on February 16th (hence why it has the Nintendo Network logo).Considering the possibility of selling retail titles on the eShop… the infrastructure is there on 3DS already and will be prepared for Wii U, but Nintendo hasn’t decided on the concrete timing of when they’ll start it yet, as it will depend on various factors (memory needed on SD cards, the relationship with retailers, etc.)Wii U will have a personal individual account system compatible with Nintendo Network… so that means multiple accounts per system. For both first party and third party titles, Nintendo is actively trying to achieve compatibility so that the consumers can enjoy their online services under the Nintendo Network name.

[Nintendo]

That’s more than I expected from the investor briefing! Lots of good news, really liking the sound of Nintendo Network.

UPDATE: More details trickling in, probably from the Q&A section and other things. I’ll update this post as more comes in.

This year, Nintendo will announce several alliances/partnerships with external parties that were previously not considered.Miyamoto says the network on Wii U has to be the next step, has to have a totally new concept to be different.

Nintendo Financial Results Briefing 4/26/11 Details

Nintendo’s Financial Results Briefing happened in Japan, and here is what I’ve been able to gather from it. I will only post new details/announcements. Please keep in mind that this information may not be entirely accurate. Check it out:

- No new details on the Wii successor, Iwata says it’s a new concept and structure for a home console, details at E3
- Still pushing Wii, will be releasing one title every month to push its performance, Wii Play: Motion is one of the new titles
- For the 3DS, they need to offer an incentive to use StreetPass and system updates, so they’ll offer free classic games, Nintendo eShop, and Internet Browser; this will launch end of May
- They possibly mention that the 3D Classics version of Excitebike will be distributed for free
- Title line-up improves going forward for the 3DS: Dead or Alive on May 19th, Unlimited Cruise on May 26th, Biohazard on June 2nd, Zelda on June 16th, Tales of the Abyss on June 30th, StarFox on July 14th, Kid Icarus is “after Summer”, new titles post-Summer, Super Mario 3DS shown at E3
- For the Virtual Console on the eShop, they have Game Boy and Game Boy Color games, but after that Nintendo wants to add more
- Mentions tablets and says that for better gaming responses they need buttons, so they won’t have machines without buttons
- Nintendo will accommodate social networking, but will not have their games appear on any non-Nintendo platform
- Admitted previously that they relied too much on their own, so now they won’t do everything on their own, expect to see something on that at E3
- They are planning first party releases around third parties
- Made a decision to announce the Wii successor because of logistics for getting people to E3, still want surprises at E3
- Vitality Sensor still in development, but the challenge is that it’s easy to make it work for 80% of the people, but very difficult to get that up to 99%

Nintendo of Japan’s Investment Briefing – Jan. 28, 2011

Nintendo of Japan has just released their notes from their third-quarter results briefing. They announced some new titles and information about the 3DS. We have compiled the new information below (compliments of Google Translate), and left out the bits that we already know from previous press events.

Iwata mentioned this year is the 25th anniversary of Zelda and Dragon Quest, and the 15th anniversary of Pokemon. He mentioned how they celebrated the 25th anniversary of Mario last year… so this could be a possible hint at special anniversary celebrations for those other series.

Pokemon Battle & Get will come to the DS in April 2011. It will be a typing teacher and come with a Bluetooth-enabled keyboard.New Wii game, Tower of Pandora, announced.New Rhythm Heaven (Rhythm Tengoku) game for Wii. It is a follow-up to the previous Rhythm Heaven game for DS.

New Kirby game for Wii, where Kirby is back to his old self, sucking up enemies.

Just Dance 2 and Goldeneye are coming to Japan. The first 3DS firmware update will happen simultaneously around the world at the end of May 2011. This update will contain the Internet Browser, 3DS eShop, video playback, and the ability to transfer games from other 3DS or DSi units.Nintendo confirmed partnership with Fuji to develop the 3D video playback application.Iwata said they’re working on new Pokemon games for Wii and 3DS, and they’ll be announced over time. They detail various aspects of the friends list and also StreetPass notifications, but the google translation isn’t very good. From what we understand of the StreetPass, not only is there an indicator on the Notifications icon on the menu, but there’s an indicator on each of the apps that have new things as well. (Hard to say with the Google translation, though.)

Expect some gameplay videos coming soon, especially for the new Kirby Wii game.
