HMV named as official UK launch partner for 3DS

Nintendo has chosen HMV as its official launch partner for the release of the 3DS handheld at 00:01 on March 25.

Both the retailer’s 150 Oxford Street branch and HMV LiverpoolOne will be opening its doors at 11pm the night before to offer shoppers the chance to take part in various competitions and offers, before begining sales at midnight. The first 500 customers to buy a 3DS will receive a free game.

“We’ve already been seeing huge interest for the 3DS through pre-orders instore and online at hmv.com, and on release we expect many thousands more gamers to turn up to midnight events around the country, not least at our Oxford Street flagship and our LiverpoolOne superstore, which I’m absolutely thrilled have been selected to host the official UK launch,” said HMV head of games Tim Ellis.

“Like the Wii before it, I feel sure Nintendo’s 3DS will not only take gaming to a new level – further changing the way that we consume games content, but will play a major role in helping to popularise 3D as a growing entertainment format.”

In total, 100 stores will open nationwide at midnight to celebrate the launch, whilst Nintendo are also hosting an evening’s entertainment at London’s Old Billingsgate for 2000 guests, featuring DJ Yoda, Plan B and comedian Russell Kane.

Just grab a partner for Just Dance 2 DLC

by on Feb 16th 2011 3:00AM

Judging from Ubisoft's earnings, we feel pretty confident in saying that you have a copy of Just Dance 2 in your house. Yes, you. The teeming millions of Just Dancers should be thrilled to know about the new Valentine-themed DLC available on the Wii Shop -- especially as a welcome break from Katy Perry's "Firework."

The three new tracks all feature Duet choreography (and, coincidentally, duet vocals!). For 300 Wii Points each, you can download "Why Oh Why" by Love Letter, "Can't Hurry Love" by The Supremes, and "American Boy" by Estelle and Kanye West. We might be a day late alerting you about this holiday-themed DLC, but if we prevented just one person from giving Just Dance 2 DLC as a "romantic" gift, it was worth it.

Today, Ubisoft® announced a new batch of Just Dance 2 downloadable tracks available on the WiiTM Shop Channel. All Just Dance 2 owners will have the opportunity to download three new songs, all connected to love and ideal to celebrate Valentine's Day as they all feature Duet choreographies: American Boy by Estelle featuring Kanye West, The Supremes' You Can't Hurry Love and Love Letter's Why oh Why, priced at 300 Wii points ($3.00) each.

These new tracks join the seventeen titles already downloadable on the Wii Shop Channel: Katy Perry's Firework, available for free; Rihanna's Pon de Replay, M|A|R|R|S's Pump Up the Volume, Barbie Girl, Steppenwolf's Born To Be Wild, Professor Pumplestickle, Maniac, VV Brown's Crying Blood, The Reverend Horatio Duncan & Amos Sweets' Down By The Riverside, Futebol Crazy by the World Cup Girls, Panic At The Disco's Nine In The Afternoon, Lou Bega's Mambo No. 5 (A Little Bit of Monica), Carl Douglas' Kung Fu Fighting (Dave Ruffy/Mark Wallis Remix), Santa Clones' Crazy Christmas, Tom Jones' It's Not Unusual and Chicken Payback by A Band of Bees all priced at 300 Wii points each.
