June NPD: Duke Nukem Forever is #2

Yes, it's true. A startling (and vaguely insulting) number of American consumers ignored our review and purchased Duke Nukem Forever, rocketing it to the #2 position on the NPD sales charts for the month of June. Perhaps they just didn't want to ask for refunds on those 14-year-old pre-orders. The Duke occupies a position on the charts just under its equally retro (in a different way) Take-Two contemporary, L.A. Noire.

Also notable on the sales charts is the debut of another time-lost title, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D. At #5, it is the first 3DS exclusive to chart in the NPD top ten. Find the top ten best-selling games listed after the break.

It's definitely a triumphant month for the past, as total game sales were down from $1.15 billion in June of 2010 to $1.03 billion in June of this year. Once again, however, Microsoft is happy, declaring its Xbox 360 the only console in the US to show year-over-year growth. The Xbox was the top-selling console with 507,000 units which Microsoft claims is "nearly twice as many units as other current-generation platforms" this month.

[PS3, X360, PC] Duke Nukem Forever... delayed til June

[PS3, X360, PC] Duke Nukem Forever... delayed til June Sad news, but unfortunately true. Duke Nukem Forever has slipped from the original May release date til June. However, Gearbox has stated that none of this is a trick. When announced the title for a May release, they really believed it would happen. Randy Pitchford had the following to say to Eurogamer regarding the delay:

"No trick - we believed May when we announced it," Pitchford said. "There is always uncertainty and we use experience and trends to help us be predictive. We are not perfect when it comes to predicting uncertain outcomes, but we are perfect at being committed to our goals and working relentlessly towards them."

He believes the studio could have forced a May release if they worked around the clock, but would that really have done the game justice? Honestly, an extra month isn't too big of a deal considering how long we've already been waiting. Besides, that means you can put more focus on L.A. Noire when it hits shelves in May and pick up Duke on the new release date.

Duke Nukem Forever is now slated for a June 14th release in America and an international date of June 10th. Duke never comes early.

The long, long, long-awaited Duke Nukem Forever will finally be launching this May, and 2K is giving the series' hardcore fans the opportunity to purchase the ultimate Duke bundle with the Balls of Steel Edition. [PS3, X360, PC] Duke Nukem Forever Officially Dated. Yes, Dated. Duke Nukem Forever has been a joke among the games world, considering its been in development for around a decade it isn't surprising. But last year when it was revealed that Gearbox were making the long-awaited games release a reality everyone was shocked. It got even more surprising when people got a chance to play the game at various presentations, but even then we didn't have a date.

Well, grab some gum, pick up your gun and put on your shades because you'll be able to play Duke Nukem Forever when it launches in America on the 3rd of May, whilst internationally it will release on the 8th of May. That's right. And you were wondering about the demo? Well, if you picked up Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition then you should have a nifty little certificate that will give you access to the demo before it is publicly released. Currently we are waiting for word on the demo's release.

Duke Nukem Forever in May? If you had told me this last year, I would have laughed at you. But it looks like it is really happening.
