The Hip Hop Dance Experience 'keeping it real' Nov. 13

by Writer RSS on Aug 22nd 2012 6:00AM

The Hip Hop Dance Experience 'keeping it real' Nov 13
Ubisoft's next excursion into the world of Wii/Kinect dancing games, The Hip Hop Dance Experience, has been given a new trailer, a gallery of screenshots and – more importantly – a release date of November 13.

Rather than focusing on one musical act in particular, as it did with its last "Experience" games, Ubisoft seeks to encompass the whole of a genre with fresh kicks and sweet beats. Obviously, there's more to hip hop than just dancing (rapping, DJing and graffiti art, specifically) but One-Fourth The Hip Hop Experience doesn't exactly roll off the tongue.

Ubisoft dropping 'Hip Hop Dance Experience' like it's hot

by Writer RSS on Jul 12th 2012 10:00PM

Ubisoft dropping 'Hip Hop Dance Experience' like it's hot
The latest celebrity to be featured in a Ubisoft dance "Experience" game is ... nobody in particular. The Hip Hop Dance Experience, rather than focusing on the work of a single artist, is a dancing game built around a collection of hip hop tracks, representing everything from the "Rapper's Delight" to Flo Rida.

The Hip Hop Dance Experience will be out on Kinect and Wii in November. It'll debut at this weekend's Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival, which is attended by plenty of people who have experienced hip hop dance already.

Like last year's Black Eyed Peas Experience, Ubisoft has placed development in the hands of Elite Beat Agents creator iNiS. Unlike last year, however, we know iNiS is also working on an original music game, so this isn't as much of a crisis for iNiS fans.

SAN FRANCISCO - July 12, 2012 - Today, Ubisoft® announced the development of The Hip Hop Dance Experience, the latest installment in the chart-topping Experience dance game franchise. The Hip Hop Dance Experience releases worldwide in November for Kinect™ for Xbox 360® and Wii™ system from Nintendo. Additionally, The Hip Hop Dance Experience will debut this Saturday, July 14, at the 8th Annual Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival, New York City's largest hip-hop cultural event.

Ubisoft's Experience franchise was the second largest dance video game franchise of 2011 and has sold more than five million copies worldwide* by making an artist's musical universe accessible to fans through interactive and immersive games. The Hip Hop Dance Experience takes this concept even further by featuring an extensive selection of hip-hop music that defines the genre, as well as dance routines arranged by famed choreographers, including Laurieann Gibson and Dave Scott.

Developed by renowned music game developer, iNiS, The Hip Hop Dance Experience features the most comprehensive hip-hop track list ever in a dance video game, ranging from chart-topping Billboard hits to old-school party jams.

[E3'12, X360] Dance Central 3 announced for Kinect, releasing this Fall

[E3'12, X360] Dance Central 3 announced for Kinect, releasing this Fall
[Image: game-news-image-2012-31227cff063f3c2c762...7b4a4f.jpg]
A lengthy (and quite bland) dance performance by Usher accompanied the announcement that a new Dance Central game was making its way to the Xbox 360. The third entry in the series will be arriving this Fall for all those dance fans out there.

I can hear you complaining already that this isn't news, but hold up. A new feature has been added into the new Dance Central titled 'Crew Throwdown'. What is it? Well, it is a new mode that will allow eight players to split into two teams of four and engage in a dance off.

The new title will bring a range of popular dance moves from the '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, and beyond. Beyond? You look about as puzzled as we feel, maybe if you can invent a new dance Harmonix will include it.

'WiiPop' dance game hacks Wiimotes and Kinect into unlikely tryst

by Writer RSS on Apr 18th 2012 4:00PM

Image
Whether by choice or by force, chances are good you've experienced a dancing game by now. Typically, these games ask users to mimic dance moves for points, but WiiPop, created by one Christian "Mio" Loclair, is completely freestyle.

The game achieves this feat by incorporating both body-mounted Wii remotes and the Kinect. Used together, the devices measure how a user moves throughout the dance space and how he or she "pops" to the beat. It's all very amazing and complex and, as such, we suggest you watch the video above for the full rundown.

Zumba Fitness Rush gets thousands to dance in LA (Look, it's mom!)

by on Mar 29th 2012 6:00PM

This Zumba clip serves as a reminder about the demographic spread of gaming and the power of Zumba Fitness lady's amazing armpits. With over six million units sold, it's not surprising that a demonstration ended up having a few thousand people joining in -- probably didn't hurt that the IHRSA Fitness Convention was going on at the same time either.

Just Dance Propel domain registered by Ubisoft

by on Mar 7th 2012 12:00PM

Ubisoft has registered the domain JustDancePropel.com, reports Fusible. The domain itself was registered on March 2, though the URL currently leads to a domain parking page. Far be it from us to suggest that Ubisoft might be developing another entry in its fabulously successful Just Dance series, but we're going to go out on a limb and say that might be the case. In theory, said game would be titled Just Dance Propel. It's either that, or some sort of partnership with fitness water.

Ubisoft shipped 13 million Just Dance games in 2011, nearly 7 million Assassin's Creed: Revelations

by on Feb 15th 2012 1:00PM

Ubisoft announced big numbers for two of its major franchises in its latest earnings report -- two franchises that, dare we say it, are crying out for a crossover. The publisher reported a "near-30% increase" in dance game sales, including more than 13 million units shipped of its dance games -- a group including multiple Just Dances, and various celebrity "The Experience" games.

Assassin's Creed Revelations, the forty-third Assassin's Creed game starring Ezio, hit "close to 7 million sell-in units," exceeding internal forecasts and, according to Ubisoft, hitting the #7 spot in worldwide sales for the year.

That should provide a clue as to why Ubisoft is continuing the franchise with Assassin's Creed 3, in which Desmond has to prepare for a date by reliving Ezio's advanced dance lessons. Okay, that last part was just us dreaming of a crossover again.

December NPD: MW3, Just Dance 3 and Skyrim lead an overall down month

by on Jan 12th 2012 6:31PM

The industry as a whole still managed to bang out $3.99 billion in combined new sales of hardware, physical software and accessories between November 27 and December 31, 2011. This is, however, a 21 percent drop year-over-year, as the industry pulled down a combined $5.07 billion during the same period in 2010.

"Overall industry results are not entirely surprising given that we are on the back end of the current console lifecycle, combined with the continued digital evolution of gaming," said Anita Frazier, an analyst with The NPD Group. "Core gamers continue to be engaged and spend on established franchises across both the digital and physical format using multiple devices for different gaming occasions."

A smooth $2.04 billion of that $3.99 billion total was caused entirely by new physical software sales, a dash for the cash that continues to be lead by Modern Warfare 3. The pseudo-medieval allure of November's second place podium finisher, Skyrim, was not enough to keep its throne for a second term; the Dovahkiin has been usurped by Ubisoft's compulsory neon-dancing simulator, Just Dance 3.

Comparatively, Skyrim got off easy: Uncharted 3, Saints Row: The Third and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, are all absent from December's Top-10 list, just weeks after their respective releases. Skyward Sword wasn't Nintendo's only horse in this race, however, as Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land closed out December in fourth and ninth place, respectively. Overall, Nintendo, Ubisoft and Electronic Arts claimed more Top-10 real estate than their competitors, each publishing two of the month's best selling titles.

Just Dance 3 shimmies into 7 million households, 25 million franchise sales

by on Jan 13th 2012 8:00AM

Ubisoft announced this morning that Just Dance 3 has surpassed seven million sales, with the Just Dance franchise cha-cha-chinging at cash registers over 25 million times worldwide. Just Dance 3, which launched in October, has been working it on the US and UK sales charts -- even offering private dance lessons at The White House.

US retail tracking group NPD previously stated dance game sales were up 326 percent in 2011 over the prior year. During Black Friday week, the Just Dance franchise sold over a million units, with Ubisoft stating it held 76 percent market share on dance games.

Just as a reminder, the Just Dance franchise includes: Just Dance 3, Just Dance 2, Just Dance, Just Dance Summer Party, Just Dance Kids 2, Just Dance Kids, Michael Jackson: The Experience, The Black Eyed Peas Experience and ABBA You Can Dance.

Don't be surprised if Just Dance 4 hits the scene in 2012, along with (at least) two other spin-offs. UBISOFT SURPASSES 25 MILLION JUST DANCE® VIDEO GAMES SOLD THROUGH WORLDWIDE

Just Dance 3 is the best-selling U.S. game on the Kinect™ for Xbox 360®, Nintendo Wii™, and PlayStation® Move for PlayStation®3 for December 2011

SAN FRANCISCO – January 13, 2012 – Today, Ubisoft announced that, according to internal estimates, Just Dance 3 sold through more than 7 million units since its release, bringing total sell-through of the Just Dance franchise to more than 25 million units worldwide. Launched in October, Just Dance 3 has consistently been in the top five video game sales charts in both the U.S. (NPD) and Europe (GfK Chart Track).

"It's quite a feat that Just Dance 3 beat out all competition to be the No. 1 game on all motion-controlled platforms for the month of December," said Tony Key, senior vice president sales and marketing at Ubisoft. "The Just Dance franchise continues to be the game of choice for consumers around the world looking for games with great music and fun dance moves."

Ubisoft expanded its dance game offerings throughout this fiscal year with the release of ABBA You Can Dance, The Black Eyed Peas Experience, Michael Jackson the Experience, and The Smurfs Dance Party.

Obama goes with Just Dance 3 over Dance Central, shames a nation

by on Dec 22nd 2011 10:50AM

Socialist US President Barack Obama was caught purchasing French-developed Just Dance 3 for the Japanese-designed Nintendo Wii console this past week. Thankfully, the desperate last-minute shopping trip to a local Best Buy for his daughters, Malia and Sasha, kept him away from putting more Americans out of work.

"In case you all are wondering, Just Dance for the Wii," Obama said, having a member of the proletariat hold up the game. "The girls beat me every time on these various dance games. And you'll never get a picture of me [playing] because I get graded F every time."

Clearly an agent of foreign leaders, Mr. Obama could have chosen the Boston-developed Dance Central 2 for the Seattle-designed Xbox 360. But no. Shame on you, sir. Shame on you! As if we needed our political leaders supporting Just Dance's continued foreign profits.

Disclaimer: This was all in good fun. Do not take anything here seriously. Laugh it off, hug someone you love. Kisses and hugs.

Half off LBP2, Dance Central 2, Killzone 3, more on Amazon today

by on Dec 23rd 2011 1:15PM

Grabinating some savingsAmazon yearns to squeeze a little more blood from the empty, calcified stone that was your wallet with yet one more (barely) pre-holiday sale. The online retailer has placed deep discounts on numerous titles, including 50 percent off on the likes of Deus Ex, Killzone 3, Dance Central 2, LittleBigPlanet 2, and Mortal Kombat.

There's also a pair of lightning deals coming up soon, though we're having a little trouble deciphering the first clue: "The world's most hilarious team of heroes will need to restore peace to their world or watch as their beloved home vanishes like a bad dream." Any guesses? Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One, perhaps? Whatever it is, it's up at 4pm Eastern. We're fairly certain that the next deal, slated for 10pm Eastern, is the premium edition of Disgaea 4.
