[Multi] Capcom has no Darkstalkers plans on the immediate horizon

[Multi] Capcom has no Darkstalkers plans on the immediate horizon

Are you a fan of Capcom's Darkstalkers franchise? Did you purchase Darkstalkers Resurrection? If not, then you might want to re-consider your decision, because Capcom seems ready to put the series back on hiatus.

Siliconera is reporting that Capcom's disappointment over the sales of Resurrection has helped them with the decision. "Darkstalkers Resurrection did nto perform as well as would have liked to perform. You never know what the future may hold, but Street Fighter is definitely not dead," Matt Dahlgren, fighting game manager at Capcom, told Siliconera.

That certainly doesn't bode well, but when Siliconera pushed Dahlgren concerning rumours about a new Darkstalkers game running on the Street Fighter engine he didn't seem optimistic.

"There is nothing Darkstalkers on the immediate horizon for sure," said Dahlgren.

What do you think? Is it fair that Capcom has decided to step back from the Darkstalkers franchise after a re-release of some old games performed poorly? Or should they have gambled an actual new game and suffered the game's losses for the sake of the fans?

Capcom is busy working on Ultra Street Fighter IV and will be releasing it both physically and digitally sometime in 2014.

Harmonix has 'no plans to stop' weekly Rock Band DLC releases

by on Mar 9th 2012 9:45AM

Rock Band Weekly has been in our lives for over four years and the beat will go on. Harmonix told us at GDC 2012 that it has no plans on stopping the weekly release of downloadable tracks for the Rock Band platform.

"We've been really pleased with the continued performance of Rock Band downloadable content. We've delivered over four years of weekly DLC and over 3500 songs for the music platform, and we have no plans to stop weekly releases any time soon," Harmonix emcee of communications John Drake told Joystiq. "Fans can tell us what songs they want by visiting our new Rock Band Dashboard Facebook App and voting for their favorite artists using the built-in Wishlist feature."

Harmonix has no intentions of launching Rock Band 4 this year. The company is currently working on several projects, which can be derived from job postings on the developer's site, including some kind of downloadable title.

[GDC'12, Multi] Just Cause developer plans to announce a new title at E3

[GDC'12, Multi] Just Cause developer plans to announce a new title at E3
[Image: game-news-image-2012-6835114346af80a6e43...5e7b46.jpg]
Before anyone asks, they have confirmed it is not a new Just Cause title or a new Renegade Ops title. Apart from that we don't really know a lot more about what we can expect from these guys.

We do know that it will be a licensed game but not one based on a movie, Christofer Sundberg (CEO of Avalance Studios) let that much information slip out in a recent interview with IGN.

"We aren't particularly interested in movie-based games," he said. "I think the whole industry destroyed that. So much money's been pumped into those crappy games, it's amazing. It's really scary when you look at how bad they are."

There have been rumours for a long time that the studio was attached to Mad Max: Fury Road (Sundberg refused to comment), but your best bet would be to wait for E3 to roll around. The title will run on an enhanced version of the Just Cause 2 engine and will definitely still be an open-world story-driven experience (as this is what the studio is committing itself to).

So, does anyone want to take any guesses?

Marvel: 'No current plans' for more Sega games

by on Mar 6th 2012 4:20PM

Captain America: Super Soldier was your favorite game of 2011. You don't ask people to understand your choice, but there it is. Well, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, bud, but it seems Marvel and Sega have concluded their business partnership.

"There are no current plans for additional Marvel games to be published by Sega," VP of games production TQ Jefferson told Hollywood Reporter. And while he says that games is an important part of Marvel's business, the company will be looking elsewhere for game adaptations of its properties moving forward.

Nintendo: 'No plans' to localize Xenoblade, Last Story, or Pandora's Tower

by on Jun 29th 2011 10:30PM

On Sunday, Nintendo of America's Facebook page promised "more updates soon" regarding the status of Xenoblade, The Last Story, and Pandora's Tower, the three Wii games that are the focus of the ongoing grassroots campaign for localization, called "Operation Rainfall."

On Monday, it posted a Super Mario 64 trivia question.

Then, today, it provided the response that fans were waiting for -- but not the one they wanted. "We never say 'never,'" the company stated, "but we can confirm that there are no plans to bring these three games to the Americas at this time." A brief response on Twitter thanked Operation Rainfall-ers for being "such incredible fans," but reiterated that "there continues to be no plans for NOA to release these 3 games right now."

Not that we want to give false hope regarding the actions of a company who is always pragmatic to the point of angering dedicated fans, but "no plans right now" is far from a death knell, especially for Nintendo. Some things that there were "no plans" for in America: the black Wii, the Classic Controller Pro, the Wii Sports Resort hardware bundle. Basically, there are "no plans" until the company decides to tell people its plans.

So even that denial leaves the door wide open for one of these games to be announced at a "Media Summit" or similar event in the fall. We're just mentioning that possibility, to be perfectly honest, so that we can say we totally called it should that happen.

[MULTI] David Cage plans "emotional war game" to turn genre on its head

[MULTI] David Cage plans "emotional war game" to turn genre on its head [Image: game-news-image-2011-43c5ae8660c873de7b8...bfa858.jpg]
CVG has posted up details from a chat they had with Heavy Rain creator, David Cage. Inside it he delves a bit into what direction he wants to go in next with his work. Currently David Cage is working away feverishly on two different projects.

As far as influences go, Cage named both Apocalypse Now and Platoon, he is striving to portray war in a much more cinematic and less joyful way that the video game industry has become accustomed to.

"I want to create a genre," revealed Cage. "I want to convince more people that [emotional gaming] is a valid direction for the industry; to show them that this was not just one product, one story. It's a format that can be used to tell any kind of story in any genre with any tone."

He is currently unsure if they'll go down the first-person path, instead wanting to do it from a more film-styled point of view, showcasing the realistic nature of it.

"War is not fun. Talking about what the people involved, what they feel, how horrible it can be. This is something I think could be very exciting and very new for the games industry. When we talk about war, it's always a very 'cool' thing - you have these big guns and you kill loads of people.

I would really like to take a different approach; to tell a story about politics [with it] or something a little more serious. I would like to use what we discovered in Heavy Rain in this fantastic medium of interactivity to say something meaningful. This is probably one of the next things I'm going to try."

Would you like to see Cage's take on war? Either way, there are high expectations ahead for whatever Quantic Dream's next release is.
