Batman: Arkham Origins Introduces Season Pass for Wii U DLC

It looks like Wii U is finally getting something for the upcoming Batman: Arkham Origins that the other consoles are getting. We just received an announcement from WB Games concerning a new “Season Pass” for the newest Batman game. This will allow users, for $19.99, access to five up the upcoming DLC packs ($30 value). Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today announced the Season Pass for Batman™: Arkham Origins, this fall’s highly-anticipated installment to the best-selling Batman Arkham videogame franchise.  The Batman: Arkham Origins Season Pass (for PlayStation®3 system, Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, Wii U™ system or PC) will be available at launch for $19.99 ($30 value) and grants purchasers access to five of the game’s upcoming downloadable content packs, one of which includes two exclusive skins.

Developed by WB Games Montréal, Batman: Arkham Origins is based on DC Comics’ core Batman license and features an expanded Gotham City and introduces an original prequel storyline set several years before the events of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City.  Taking place before the rise of Gotham City’s most dangerous criminals, the game showcases a young and unrefined Batman as he faces a defining moment in his early career as a crime fighter that sets his path to becoming the Dark Knight. [PC, PS3, X360] Batman: Arkham Origins will include an online multiplayer component

Batman: Arkham Origins will join the long list of franchise that have decided to include an online multiplayer mode despite the complete lack of necessity for one. Sometimes it works out well, such as in Uncharted 2, otherwise it ends up not amounting to anything, much like in Tomb Raider.

The multiplayer mode, which includes third-person shooter mechanics, is being worked on by Splash Damage. Previously Splash Damage have worked on games such as Brink and Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory.

As you can see in the video above, uploaded by Splash Damage, showcases the online multiplayer in action. Players will take part in 3 vs. 3. vs. 2 matches that will give players the option to play as either Batman or Robin and use them against their friends.

As for the villains? You'll be able to play as so-called "Super-Villain Elite" characters to see how it feels to play on the same side as The Joker and bane. As a reward for performing well players will be able to take control of charcters like The Joker or Bane themselves.

The multiplayer component will be available for Batman: Arkham Origins when the game launches for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. Unfortunately it seems that the extra feature will not be included in the Wii U version, which is an incredibly disappointing decision.

BAFTA nominates Arkham City, L.A. Noire, FIFA 12 for best of 2011

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has released its nominations for the 2012 Video Game Awards, which honors the top games from 2011 as chosen by the charity. The British stand-outs differ from our Yankee choices slightly, stressing the brilliance of Batman: Arkham City, which also made our Top 10 of 2011 list, but also including L.A. Noire, which hit our Best of the Rest, and FIFA 12, which... well. Just because we share a language doesn't automatically mean we share interests.

[Multi] Arkham City's New Robin
In an earlier announcement Rocksteady revealed that Robin would be a playable character in Batman Arkham City in the Challenge Maps. If the game is pre-ordered at certain retailers you can receive early access to the character, but everyone at some point will be able to unlock or download Robin.

The Robin in this game will be the third Robin from the comics, Tim Drake. From the sounds of it Robin will only be available in the Challenge Maps and so the Tim Drake Robin may be the best for this. In the comics, Tim Drake broke away from Batman and started his own fighting career as Red Robin. Perhaps we’ll see this incarnation of Robin in the final game? Senior Concept Artist Kan Mutfic recently gave the “final word” on his team’s vision for Robin in the game:

"We wanted to create a Robin that players would identify as a contemporary character and move away from the traditional "Boy Wonder" image that most people know. Our vision of Robin is the one of a troubled young individual that is calm and introverted at times but very dangerous and aggressive if provoked. The shaved head is inspired by cage fighters, because we thought that Robin might be doing that in his spare time to keep him on his toes. Still, we kept all the classic trademarks of Robin's appearance, such as the red and yellow colors of his outfit, the cape and the mask.

We really hope that people will discover our Robin as one of their new favorite characters in the Batman universe. He is back and he means business."

Robin certainly looks much more intimidating in this new vision. Are you excited to see this new version of the “Boy Wonder”? Or would you have preferred that Rocksteady simply left Robin alone all together? Either way I suppose we’ll find out how they did when the game hits store shelves this October.

Are you excited for Rocksteady's sequel to the critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham Asylum? Well then, you'll be happy to know that the sequel has just received a release date.

The dates are all pretty close together as well, which should please fans worldwide. In America and Australia you'll be able to pick up the game on the 19th of October and in Europe it'll be available on the 21st of October. Arkham City will be releasing across PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Will you be picking it up for some more Batman related action?
