Final two Skylanders: Swap Force series 3 figures released

by David Hinkle Writer RSS on Jan 15th 2014 4:00AM

Rubble Rouser and Stink Bomb, the final two Skylanders Swap Force figurines in the third series, have been released and can be found at your local Toys R Us store in the US, Kotaku reports.

You may already have a shoebox full of Swap Force characters, but these two characters are of particular interest, as they allow access to the final content in Skylanders: Swap Force. Rubble Rouser, the first earth elemental Skylanders: Swap Force character, is necessary for bypassing certain gates requiring a rocky touch. If a masked gunman is forcing you to choose between Rubble Rouser and Stink Bomb, it's worth knowing that Rubble Rouser's extra content can be accessed during co-op games – those dual-element gates can also be opened by two separate Skylanders playing together.

Stink Bomb, on the other hand, is the first character able to unlock Swap Force's sneaking mini-games. If players want to fully experience absolutely everything Skylanders: Swap Force has to offer, Stink Bomb is a must-have character.

Skylanders: Swap Force is the latest entry in Activision's toy-driven action platformer series, which converts real-life toys into in-game characters by use of a special portal. Swap Force is the first entry to have figurines with a top piece and bottom piece that can be combined with other Swap Force characters to create new combinations.

[PS3, X360] Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII demo footage surfaces on YouTube

[PS3, X360] Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII demo footage surfaces on YouTube
[Image: game-news-image-2013-590748806f49099c06d...82f867.jpg]
YouTube user Dante14181 has uploaded footage from Square Enix's next big release, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, directly to YouTube.

The footage is in Japanese, as a result neither the text or audio is in English, and is shot off-screen, that being said the video offers a decent look at the game in action and contains no background noise. So, if you are curious to see how the newest Final Fantasy game is shaping up it is worth checking out.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is set to be released next February for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Thanks AGB.

[X1] Final build of Ryse: Son of Rome will be different to the E3 demo

[X1] Final build of Ryse: Son of Rome will be different to the E3 demo
[Image: game-news-image-2013-70747a6c069c8f47853...897cbc.jpg]
This probably shouldn't be news, everyone should be able to figure out that what we saw in the E3 demo for Crytek's Xbox One exclusive game, Ryse: Son of Rome, is likely to change before launch. However, just in case you wanted to be reassured then here you go; speaking with Siliconera the game's producer, Michael Read, said that the game itself is still changing.

When Read was asked about the game's combat system and whether or not you'll need to score more then two hits in the final game to move into the execution state the answer was somewhat cagey. He mentions that he is aware that people are worried the E3 build will be representative of the final build, but really "it was a very tiny slice." Read concedes that there'll be some scripted moments but in the final game he claims that there'll be various different levels of difficulty ranging "from easy mode I think up to nightmare." Ultimately, the decision was man to keep things straight forward to allow people to get into the game easier when they were approaching their E3 presentation.

"A lot of design elements and balancing weren't even in there yet. So, to throw those in and here to play the game, I mean, it makes for an awful experience," said Read. "But I think at the same time, we simplified things a little bit too much but we didn't do a good job in explaining the combat."

So, there you have it. Of course it is easy to be skeptical about this, considering that the game is expected to launch with the Xbox One later this year. Read also confirmed that in the final version the button prompts that popped up in execution mode will not be visible in the final version, instead players will have to memorise audio and visual prompts to successfully pull off executions.

I recommend checking out the full interview, because the changes to the combat and executions that Read talks about seem to make for a radically different game compared to the E3 demo.

What do you think?

Most importantly, it is clear that Crytek is aware of the things that people have been saying about Ryse across the internet, but I'm not quite sure if they can salvage the game's image at this point. It'll be entirely dependent on the level of change that is displayed in the final build.

[PS3, X360] Looks like Snow is set to return in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII

[PS3, X360] Looks like Snow is set to return in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII
I didn't enjoy Final Fantasy XIII and although Final Fantasy XIII-2 improved a few notable errors it still left me wanting more. Sadly, Square Enix's announcement that we'd be getting another Final Fantasy XIII game was not in alignment with my desire (I just want Final Fantasy Versus XIII, guys).

Today it's been uncovered by Siliconera (via Ruliweb) that Snow will return in the newest game thanks to a scan from thenext issue of Jump. It probably shouldn't surprise anyone, he was still present in the previous game. The main difference now is his darker outfit, certainly a contrast to his name.

[Image: game-news-image-2013-08ac530afdee6a0cef4...42450b.jpg]
Apparently he still regrets not being able to save Serah as well.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is expected to release later this year for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

[E3'13, PS3, X360] Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII gets a trailer, release date

[E3'13, PS3, X360] Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII gets a trailer, release date
Square Enix recently confirmed their E3 lineup, which included Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, in a press release. To accompany the announcement there were also a couple of videos, one being the game's E3 trailer and the other taking us behind-the-scenes on the creation of "The Savior".

Hit play on both of them to check them out.

So, it looks like everyone's favourite time traveler is back but this time he appears to the standing against Lightning; I'm sure that'll have some consequences.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is expected to release next February for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

[PC, PS3] Square Enix confirms Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn for Summer launch

[PC, PS3] Square Enix confirms Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn for Summer launch
[Image: game-news-image-2013-158014ae556818c94ed...1c0807.jpg]
Final Fantasy XIV turned out to be a wake up call to Square Enix; the Japanese developer and publisher has been putting a lot of effort into restoring the game prior to its disappointing launch.

Today the company confirmed that the re-launched Final Fantasy XIV will be made available sometime this Summer for PC and PlayStation 3.

Additionally, they also confirmed that the game will be entering the third phase of its closed beta test this June. The third phase will allow PlayStation 3 users to jump on board and get their first taste of Final Fantasy XIV action and experience the world of Eorzea alongside PC players. It will also introduce participants to new content, including the introduction of two new city states: Ul'dah and Limsa Lominsa.

If you haven't applied for beta entry yet then head over here or here to register your interest.

You can probably expect a release date announcement at E3.

[PC, PS3] Final Fantasy XIV's reborn realm receives a new trailer for touring
Something something Final Fantasy XIV.

I'm getting the feeling that A Realm Reborn might be the turn around that Final Fantasy XIV needs. A new video has been released by Square Enix that takes you on a tour of Gridania.

Thanks to the heads up, Massively.

[PC] Rumour: Final Fantasy VII making its way to PC again

[PC] Rumour: Final Fantasy VII making its way to PC again
[Image: game-news-image-2012-1c990b32c341121a608...6c394c.jpg]
A leaked Steam description has hinted at Final Fantasy VII making its way to Valve's digital distribution platform. According to the leak it will include a host a new set of features including Steam achievements (36 in total apparently), cloud saving, and online profiles to compare game progress with friends.

Apparently there will also be a new Character Booster Item that will max your HP, MP and Gil when you "find yourself stuck on a difficult section or lacking the funds to buy that vital Phoenix Down". This should be helpful for those players who find themselves struggling with a few of the more unforgiving battle's you'll face as you progress.

The new information appeared briefly on FinalFantasyVIIPC.com, a domain that was registered by Square Enix on June 15. The domain was spotted by the keen eyes over on the GOG forum.

The price seems to be pegged at around £7.99/€9.99 (or roughly $15) which seems like a fair price for a classic game. We are left wondering if Final Fantasy VIII will get the same treatment.

[PS3, X360] Square Enix & BioWare bring regulation N7 armour to Final Fantasy XIII-2

[PS3, X360] Square Enix & BioWare bring regulation N7 armour to Final Fantasy XIII-2
Final Fantasy XIII-2 has been receiving regular DLC, which is a first for the franchise. It has received new fights, costumes and even a new chapter to the story. Well, the newest costume has finally been released and it comes thanks to a collaboration between Square Enix and BioWare. You can check out the announcement trailer below.

CAUTION: This video contains spoilers, so if you don't want anything spoiled then be sure to check out the images below

You can pick the costumes up right now on both the PSN and through XBL, they'll set you back €1.99 / £1.79 / 240 MSP each (that's right, they come separately). So if the Mass Effect 3 ending didn't frustrate you enough, now you can parade around in Square Enix's questionable sequel in N7 armour. Sounds kind of neat, right? Anyway, here are the images. You can click them to get a better look. [Image: game-news-image-2012-c2a9f8a9ed730a38929...455e01.jpg][Image: game-news-image-2012-9640853f3f854566cc9...5738a0.jpg]

[PS3, X360] New video showcases menu's and time travel in Final Fantasy XIII-2

[PS3, X360] New video showcases menu's and time travel in Final Fantasy XIII-2
Sure, Chrono Trigger had time travel. But it has been just long enough for Square Enix to revisit the mechanic. What better way to do it than with a sequel to Final Fantasy XIII? No doubt you've had a chance to take the game for a test run thanks to Square Enix making the demo available.

Square Enix have released a new video showcasing the time travel via the Historia Crux, check it out below.

[PS3, X360] PSA: Final Fantasy XIII-2 demo is available now, kupo

[PS3, X360] PSA: Final Fantasy XIII-2 demo is available now, kupo
Just in case you haven't checked the local digital marketplace on your PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, here's a reminder that the demo is now available for Square Enix's sequel to 2009's installment in the Final Fantasy franchise.

The demo sees you take control of Serah and Noel (plus a moogle, who is a bow... uh, yeah...) and try to take down a powerful enemy known as Atlas. The demo shows off the combat, some sidequest features, the ability to use monsters, and thankfully a less linear pathway to your objectives. Oh, you can also jump. Yes!

The demo kind of feels like a love letter from that shallow ex-spouse (in this case the spouse was Final Fantasy XIII) who just wants you to give them another chance. Will you?

Final Fantasy XIII-2 is slated to hit PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on the 31st of January in America, 2nd of February in Australia and the 3rd of February in Europe.

[PS3, X360] Get a taste of Final Fantasy XIII-2 with the 'Battle in Valhalla' trailer

[PS3, X360] Get a taste of Final Fantasy XIII-2 with the 'Battle in Valhalla' trailer
Final Fantasy XIII-2 is going to be crazy. Not only is it going to be crazy, it looks like it will totally make up for last years Final Fantasy XIII. So be sure to sample the below trailer for a taste of the intensity that you can expect.
I had the pleasure of playing the game a few weeks back and it certainly felt like it was shaping up well, a few things I would still change but overall it is definitely an improvement over the previous entry.

How far along is Final Fantasy Versus XIII? We don't know, but Final Fantasy XIII-2 is 90% complete!!

That's right, get excited folks. The game's final release date will be announced for Japan at the Tokyo Game Show later this week but is likely to be December for Japan and January for the rest of the world. Word has surfaced that gamers will have the option to raise up to 150 monsters as well as travel through time. The overall length of the game will be shorter than Final Fantasy XIII but it will feature a large number of new features.

A lot of the characters from the original will return in the sequel, and some will be playable at Tokyo Game Show later this week as well.

Are you excited for this sequel? Or would you rather Square Enix continue on elsewhere?

Meh, FFX sucked before, and it'll suck now. Nothing changes in my opinion.

I don't see how they managed to take a game about swords, sorcery and high fantasy and turn it into Jpop singers in the ocean. I really, really don't. FF1 will always be one of my favorite games, and probably the only good Final Fantasy game I've ever played (aside from FF9). It had everything- great music, great albeit simplistc combat, etc.

They've continued to sodomize this series. It just needs to die. That, or give me an HD remake of FF1, similar to the PSP version.

It's not that I hated it. I enjoyed it at the time. But it sowed the seeds that become Final Fantasy XIII (walk forward for essentially the entire game until you get to the Calm Lands, throw some small optional quests at you before you continue walking forward).
The combat just bored me to tears. To go from the flowing combat that the ATB system provided for so long to the turn-based CTB was just tedious. Granted it made the game piss easy, so you could plan out your strategies perfectly by following the character flow chart on the side of the screen.

On the bright side, the game had such a great 3rd quarter with all the stuff with Auron, Sin, Tidus, Yuna, etc. So I forgive it for that.

But I will also resent it somewhat for what it lead the franchise to.
