[PS3] Konami reveals Metal Gear Solid 'Legacy Collection' for June

[PS3] Konami reveals Metal Gear Solid 'Legacy Collection' for June

Metal Gear fans might find that they have quite a substantial hole in their wallets. A year and a half after releasing the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, Konami has announced a bigger and better collection in the "Legacy Collection" due to hit the PlayStation 3 in North and South America this June.

The Legacy Collection includes the original Metal Gear Solid, HD versions of Metal Gear Solid 2, 3, and Peace Walker, the "Trophy Edition" of Metal Gear Solid 4, and topped off with Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions and a couple of digital graphic novels by Ashley Wood.

"We wanted to give Metal Gear Solid fans the opportunity to experience the series from beginning to end, all on one console," said Konami Digital Entertainment president Tomoyuki Tsuboi in a press release. "With the collection's multiple titles, players can truly see how Metal Gear Solid evolved into the critically acclaimed and beloved franchise it is today."

A price for the bundle has not been announced, nor is it clear if or when the bundle might hit the rest of the world.

[Multi] The Phantom Pain unveiled; Metal Gear Solid 5?

[Multi] The Phantom Pain unveiled; Metal Gear Solid 5?
[Image: game-news-image-2012-04ba89c274cbd741a39...fdb8a0.jpg]
Maybe the coolest thing to come from last night's Spike VGAs was the debut trailer for a previously-unannounced game called The Phantom Pain. Despite the fact that it was a pretty intense trailer, it became clear that primary character in the video is a dead ringer for Big Boss a.k.a. Naked Snake of Metal Gear Solid fame.

The interwebs have been abuzz with speculation and forums like this NeoGAF thread have unearthed some pretty compelling evidence that The Phantom Pain could indeed be Metal Gear Solid 5. A supposedly new developer is deemed to be behind the project, a Swedish studio called Moby Dick Studio, however that has been called into question as the CEO's name Joakim Mogren contains both an anagram for "Kojima" as well as the hidden word "ogre", perhaps a nod to Hideo Kojima's long-awaited and much-speculated game tentatively called Project Ogre.

Definitely sounds like some Kojima-style deception to me.

[Vita] Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for Vita gets enhanced with touch controls

[Vita] Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for Vita gets enhanced with touch controls
Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, as you probably know, is making its way to PlayStation Vita this June. The venture is a group effort between Bluepoint Games (God of War HD Collection), Konami and Armature (comprised of ex-Retro Studios staff) and is bring a few neat perk to the Vita version. That perk is that both games will be enhanced with touch control input, check out the new trailer from Japan below.
So, what do you think? To be fair, this decision made sense, it'd have been strange to have not taken advantage of the touch pads. It is difficult to judge how it'll play out until we get our own hands on it.

Additionally, as a reminder, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for the Vita doesn't include Peace Walker in the package.

NintendoWare Weekly: Metal Gear Solid 3D demo, Strider

by on Feb 16th 2012 12:30PM

The Metal Gear Solid 3D demo arrives today, accompanied by relatively big news on the Virtual Console! The first NES Ambassador game for 3DS is now available for purchase by non-Ambassadors! Super Mario Bros. is on the eShop now for five bucks. And if you already have it through the Ambassador Program, you can get a free update to add multiplayer and save states!

There's also news for the Wii's Virtual Console: the Genesis version of Strider can be purchased today. We hadn't heard about a Genesis VC game in a while, so we looked into it. As far as we can tell, this is the first Genesis game on Wii in North America since Sonic & Knuckles, on February 15, 2010. It's been two years and a day since the last Genesis VC release.

In fact, this appears to be the first Wii Virtual Console release of any kind since The Ignition Factor six months ago. Enjoy it! This doesn't happen very often.

Wii Virtual Console Strider (Genesis, 1 player, 800 Wii Points): Pseudo-Soviet settings, giant robot gorillas, and weird arcing sword effects. A true classic.3DS eShop DSiWare iSpot Japan (EnjoyUp Games, 1-2 players, $1.99/200 DSi Points): Spot the difference between two images of Japanese locales.

It seems that Hideo Kojima may never be able to escape the development of Metal Gear Solid, with information surfacing that he is linked to the development of a potential Metal Gear Solid 5.

The legendary developer is featured on the cover of Official PlayStation Magazine UK's next issue, promising to shed some light on Metal Gear Solid 5 and the mysterious Project Ogre. Interestingly, the interview will touch on a lot of Metal Gear information. Kojima even talks at length about why he tried to kill Snake off for a decade. The issue will also feature details about Metal Gear Solid: Rising, which has been kept under wraps lately.

[PS3, X360] Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker bringing online co-op to HD Collection

[PS3, X360] Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker bringing online co-op to HD Collection
Everyone knows that Peace Walker had a decent focus on the co-op feature, except for one problem: it was on PSP and required you to have the adhoc party app and a PS3 connected to the internet. That will now be a thing of the past with Hideo Kojima confirming that the version coming in the HD Collection will have easier access to online.

The mode is being called CO-OPS and will allow users to participate in co-operative missions with up to four players. Hideo Kojima even confirmed that the game will still run at a very smooth 60 frames per second with four players participating.

Just remember how lucky we we are, because even though this is part of our Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, in Japan it is being sold separately.

[PS3] Rumour: Metal Gear Solid HD Collection Incoming?

[PS3] Rumour: Metal Gear Solid HD Collection Incoming? Label this one as rumour until we hear more, but according to the UK's Official PlayStation 3 Magazine have heard 'inside whispers' that Kojima's first three Metal Gear Solid titles could be next in line for a HD collection.

The magazine reports that Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater are set to be touched up in high definition for release in a similar fashion to the God of War Collection and Prince of Persia Trilogy. With Metal Gear Solid 4 quickly approaching its third birthday and Metal Gear Solid: Rising not due out until 2012 maybe a HD collection wouldn't be such a bad idea to keep people's minds on the Metal Gear franchise.

When more word emerges one way or another you'll find it in our portal. Would you buy a Metal Gear Solid HD Collection? The reasons for owning a PS2 are beginning to dwindle with every HD collection that gets announced or talked about.

[PS3, X360, PC] Kojima Productions Hiring 'Next Gen Metal Gear Solid' Staff

[PS3, X360, PC] Kojima Productions Hiring 'Next Gen Metal Gear Solid' Staff [Image: kojimab.jpg]
With Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker well and truly finished with, and Metal Gear Solid 3D: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid: Rising up next you might be wondering what exactly Kojima Productions will be doing beyond them.

They have posted a list of jobs up for offer under the vague headline of 'Next Generation of Metal Gear Solid Series Production Staff.' According to the listing, Kojima Productions are seeking planners, programmers and CG designers for a large variety of tasks. The programming jobs specificially cite applicants should have experience on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, whilst the graphics listing is aimed at people who are interested in conducting research into next generation CG.

Maybe we will see another Metal Gear title unveiled before this year is out? Until then, Metal Gear Solid 3D is due this year and Metal Gear Solid: Rising is due out in 2012.
