[PS3, X360] Blizzard confirms street date for Diablo III's console port

[PS3, X360] Blizzard confirms street date for Diablo III's console port
[Image: game-news-image-2013-0159f1f913a8d7eb80a...99d1b9.jpg]
Blizzard has slapped an official street date on the console port for their latest action RPG, Diablo III. The announcement went live on Battle.net and also revealed that the game would be coming to the Xbox 360.

Blizzard also revealed that pre-ordered copies of Diablo III will include a redeemable code for an Infermal Helm (an in-game item) that can be worn at level 1. It offers a +EXP bonus to get your characters started.

So, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 players will get their chance to venture to New Tristram and beyond on the 3rd of September. No release date has been offered for the PlayStation 4; Blizzard also told Joystiq that they have no further platform announcements to make at this time.

Do you think it'll find its way to the Xbox One as well?

[Image: game-news-image-2012-1ec64df1fed02154d77...3d4a6f.png]
America has the Wii U, but Europe isn't far behind. Nintendo has sent out an press release detailing plans for the Wii U's launch in the UK. Specifically they have detailed a official Wii U launch event, which will be hosted by HMV at their flagship Oxford Street store.

Get out your pen and paper (or make an event on your fancy smartphone, people of the future) and take down the following details.

WHAT: Wii U Official Launch Event.
WHERE: HMV, 150 Oxford Street, London.
WHEN: Thursday 29th of November, 2012 from 22:00 until the first official sale at 00:01 on Friday 30th of November.

Be prepared to brave the lines if you are turning up to this event because Nintendo has added an extra twist into the mix, the first 100 customers who queue for the Wii U's launch at the Oxford Street store will also receive a free copy of New Super Mario Bros. U and another game of their choice. Two free games.

If that doesn't draw lines then I'm not sure what will. Who among us is planning to gamble on this launch event?

FIFA Street fights back to top of UK charts

by Writer RSS on Apr 16th 2012 9:30AM

FIFA Street returned to the top of the charts when sales were tallied in the UK last week, scoring its fourth number-one finish. Chart-Track notes the title has now matched the rank history of the original FIFA Street, which also owned the hard charting streets for four weeks back in 2005.

It was a pretty quiet week in the battle for rankings otherwise, with the entirety of the top ten playing musical chairs. Last week's chart-topper, Kinect Star Wars, was not the game more people were looking for, and slipped down to fourth.

The only new release last week to break the top 40 was Pandora's Tower from Nintendo, which debuted in spot 38. Check out the UK top ten after the break.

FIFA Street holds top UK spot for third week

by on Apr 2nd 2012 10:00AM

FIFA Street sales may have dropped another 44 percent in sales last week around the UK, but that didn't stop the footie franchise reboot from taking Chart-Track's top spot for a third consecutive week.

Mass Effect 3 chugged a krogan energy drink and received a 28 percent sales boost to find itself in second place, followed by newcomer Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13. Capcom's Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, once again, breaks EA's monopoly on the top five, inserting itself in fourth place, with EA's FIFA 12 running up in fifth.

New titles this week included Namco Bandai's (eye-roll inducing title) Narto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations, which debuted at number six. There was also a Silent Hill double-header, as Silent Hill HD Collection and Silent Hill: Downpour debuted at number 12 and 15, respectively. Find the UK top ten after the break... if you dare.

[PS3, X360] Capcom prices additonal characters for Street Fighter X Tekken

Capcom has been under fire recently, even more so since it was discovered that they had stored some locked content on-disc and would be offering it for purchase later down the road. Well, now we have prices for that content in the form of a character pack (which would include the 12 Vita exclusive characters).

Capcom defended their decision to have the characters on-disc to preserve hard-drive space and allow an easier transition when the DLC is made available as well as allowing those who opt to not purchase the additional characters to play against those who do.

Pricing applies to them as a full pack (none of the characters will be made available separately) and will set you back $20 / £16 / 1600 MSP.

Capcom also detailed some future content that will be made available, including a swap costume pack that allows you to dress Street Fighter characters as Tekken characters and vice versa. These will be available as in packs $12/€12.99/£9.99/1040 MSP or you can buy costumes individually for $1/€0.99/£0.79/80 MSP.

As an act as generosity they will also be releasing some free content including: Nine brand new gem packs, boasting over 60 gems total.Replay analyzer.Tournament support for gem selection.Three new quick combo pre-sets.Three additional gem loadout slots.Three new colour packs with four colours each.

FIFA Street reboot kicks it in UK top spot

by on Mar 19th 2012 8:30AM

It's good to be EA in the UK right now, as the publisher holds the top four spots on the all formats sales chart. The company's latest addition, FIFA Street, debuted at the top of the charts, pushing Mass Effect 3 and SSX into second and third, respectively. Fourth is held by stalwart footster FIFA 12.

Chart-Track dug into the archives and unearthed the last time EA claimed the top four spots was in week 48 and 49 of... 2003. At that time -- a tumultuous period, because Madonna kissed both Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera on TV and the world was going to end -- it was FIFA 2004, Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, Medal of Honor: Rising Sun and Need for Speed: Underground.

The bottom half of the UK top ten is full of familiars, including the sweatastic return of Zumba Fitness. Another reboot, Sony's Twisted Metal, drove into 12th place for its launch. Check out the UK top ten after the break.

FIFA Street holds off Resident Evil: ORC from taking first in UK

by on Mar 26th 2012 9:15AM

Capcom broke EA's monopoly of the top four titles in the UK last week with Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, which debuted in second on the charts. The top spot belonged to EA's FIFA Street for a second week in a row, with the publisher grabbing third through fifth with Mass Effect 3, FIFA 12 and SSX, respectively.

Kid Icarus: Uprising flew in with a seventh place debut, becoming the only Nintendo title in the top ten, as Mario Party 9 dropped from fifth to 13.

There were two new titles that sliced up some competition to crack the top 40, as Total War Shogun 2: Fall of the Samurai cut in at 17 and Ninja Gaiden 3 made a mess a couple spots later at 19. Sneak past the break to check out the UK top ten.

[X360] No 4-player co-op for 360 version of Street Fighter X Tekken

[X360] No 4-player co-op for 360 version of Street Fighter X Tekken
[Image: game-news-image-2012-6a49850967626d19d11...62cab9.jpg]
Are you wondering why your brand new copy of Street Fighter X Tekken for your Xbox 360 doesn't have the option to participate in 4-player co-op? Well, Capcom's Tomoyaki Ayano has an answer for you although we don't know if you'll actually like it.

"Unfortunately, due to time and resource issues, we weren’t able to get that feature into the Xbox 360 version and we apologize to those players who were looking forward to it. Throughout the development process, there are times when new features are added (and we added a lot of them!) and there are also times where we have to make tough decisions regarding things to cut. This was one of those times."

So, yeah. There you guy. He also adds that it is found on the PlayStation 3 version because "we tackled that earlier and found the architecture of their system to be more conducive to implementing it."

He also teases that they'll be talking more about additional content for the game soon enough, hopefully Capcom can avoid more on-disc DLC dramas.

[PC, PS3, X360] Opening movie for Street Fighter x Tekken kicks out onto the internet
With its release quickly approaching (March 6th), the opening movie for Street Fighter x Tekken has exploded onto the internet to build some more anticipation.
Let's be honest though, same day as Mass Effect 3? We know what will be getting all of the attention that day.

Will you be picking up Capcom's newest cross-over fighting game?

[PS3, Vita] Mega Man and Pac-Man come to Sony's platforms in Street Fighter x Tekken

[PS3, Vita] Mega Man and Pac-Man come to Sony's platforms in Street Fighter x Tekken
You have probably heard already, but in case you haven't: Mega Man and Pac-Man are going to be appearing as guest characters in both the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita versions of Street Fighter x Tekken when it releases this year. Amusingly, the Mega Man iteration that will be playable is everyone's favourite, known as 'bad box art Mega Man.' [Image: game-news-image-2012-c3a5942266aecb0e28b...42f1e1.jpg]
In fact, according to a tweet from Yoshinori Ono, this conclusion was reached with input from former Capcom executive Keiji Inafune.

"I consulted with Mr.Megaman (his name is Mr.I...) about it 1 year ago," Ono tweeted. So there you have it, for future reference the 'bad box art Mega Man' was slated to feature on the cover for the now cancelled Mega Man Universe so maybe Inafune is just having a laugh, either way none of this explains why they are Sony exclusive characters at this point.

Fortune Street review: Occupy Mushroom Kingdom

by on Dec 2nd 2011 1:00PM

As soon as you start up Fortune Street, you need to go into the options and turn both "game speed" and "text speed" up to their fastest settings. Then, when you get ready to choose your board and start the game, you must reduce the amount of money required to win by at least half. Even with these utterly necessary precautions, you should probably block out a big chunk of your day to dedicate to Square Enix's board game.

At its default settings, Fortune Street will wear out both its welcome and its players before the conclusion of a single game. That is, of course, if you can find someone to play with, which seems unlikely, given the presumably small pool of nearby friends who love Mario and Dragon Quest, love the real estate market, and have nothing going on for the whole day.

Fortune Street, like the other games in the previously Japan-only Itadaki Street series, takes its inspiration from Monopoly. Players roll dice to travel across a selection of game-themed boards, purchasing shops to acquire assets, and charging other players who land on those shops. Players can invest in their shops to boost their value and charge more, buy shops near each other to increase the value of the whole "district," and -- in the game's most complex wrinkle -- buy stock in various districts, to earn dividends on every transaction that happens within, and profit from increased stock prices when the district gains value.

As you attempt to gain property and stock, you also race around the board to cross four "suit" symbols (heart, spade, etc.), draw cards for random positive and negative effects, and engage in the occasional minigame. These are more games of chance than Mario Party button-mash-fests -- you'll throw darts at a spinning wheel, or play a slot machine game, or, in one case, just watch a Slime race.

I should note that I have no problem with the premise and ruleset of Fortune Street. I think the stock market adds an interesting strategic element to the Monopoly-style game, allowing players to profit on things that happen anywhere on the board. I even kind of feel like I learned a little about economics from it. I also like the presentation, with charming banter from all the characters (my favorite, of course, is the Slime, who speaks in puns involving "goo," "plop," "slurp," and other Slimey terms) and themed boards suspended over settings from both series.

Unfortunately, the game plays out at such a slow pace that
all those interesting elements become grating long before you've completed a board. While money starts piling up at a reasonable rate toward the end of the game -- once everyone's got a ton of stock and the shops have all been maxed out -- that comes only after hours of glacial progress. Goals are set at 10,000 gold or more, and you'll typically make a few hundred on the way around the board, and then maybe a thousand when you return to the "bank" starting point. Even the minigames and "venture" cards usually award the winner prizes in the low hundreds, meaning that everyone goes around the board way too many times, and every transaction makes barely perceptible progress toward the end of the game. It's a single design flaw, but it's one with devastating effect on the game. I think Fortune Street has the potential to be fun, but it's not fun enough to support such protracted gameplay sessions.

You can alter the goal amount in multiplayer games and "free play" mode, making each round shorter, but there's no such luck in the single-player "tour" mode. There, you play through each of twelve boards, all with increasing goal amounts and increasingly complex layouts, to unlock more boards, more playable characters, and, weirdly, customizations for your Mii. Want a little Goomba to walk around your Mii on the board? Or some dragon zombie wings? Or a tougher-looking win pose? Yeah, I didn't really either, at least not enough to deliberately earn "stamps" to buy them. You can also play with "easy" rules, which cut out the stock market -- but taking out the most interesting part of the game is no solution.

I really wanted to like Fortune Street. I looked forward to this game. I went into the experience assuming I would love it. I was as receptive an audience as Nintendo was going to find. But the game-breakingly slow pace of a game that isn't that exciting to start with took its toll. Fortune Street has no respect for players' time, turning what should be a breezy pastime into a languid, dull experience. Or, in honor of my friend Slime, a "lan-goo-id" experience.
This review is based on a retail copy of Fortune Street provided by Nintendo.

Joystiq's review scores are based on a scale of whether the game in question is worth your time -- a five-star being a definitive "yes," and a one-star being a definitive "no." Read here for more information on our ratings guidelines.

Super Street Fighter II coming to Virtual Console with online multiplayer

by on Nov 12th 2011 6:30PM

Details are slim at this point, but Capcom Unity announced yesterday that the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive version of Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers will be coming to Nintendo's Virtual Console ecosystem sometime in the future. No word on pricing or availability, but we do know that the port will feature online play, which, believe it or not, actually existed in the original release in the form of XBAND compatibility.

If you're not old enough to remember XBAND, you're probably not old enough to be excited about one of the many variants of Street Fighter 2 being re-released. If you are old enough to remember XBAND, we hope you can find time between refinancing your mortgage and picking the kids up from band practice to go a few rounds.

[Vita] Cole showcases his electrifying power in this Street Fighter x Tekken gameplay
As you know by now, Cole McGrath is joining the fray in the PlayStation Vita version of Street Fighter x Tekken. So why not celebrate by checking some more footage of him in action? You'll have to forgive the Street Fighter design he has been done up in as well.
Looking pretty good, here's hoping he'll be available on the PlayStation 3 version of the game as well.
