After publishing Fatal Frame IV: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse on the Wii exclusively in Japan, Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir for the 3DS and now bringing Fatal Frame 2: Deep Crimson Butterfly to Wii's everywhere it seems that Nintendo has managed to score a stake in the Fatal Frame IP.

A post on Rely on Horror Nintendo updated their copyright status on the IP. They now own the Spirit Camera IP and co-own the Fatal Frame / Project Zero IP, which severely reduces the odds of the games seeing a release on other platforms.

I'd be surprised if this didn't lead to an obvious Wii U / Camera Obscura Fatal Frame title and honestly if it does, sign me up! Fatal Frame is one of the last surviving survival horror franchises that is true to its name, unlike Resident Evil which has ditched the format and Silent Hill who has left Japan and is stumbling drunkenly around the world. So honestly, this could be a big win for Nintendo. Check out the trailer for Fatal Frame 2's upcoming Wii release below.

You know Fatal Frame, right? Maybe you know it as Project Zero, but no matter what name you know it by it is a very solid franchise. So prepare yourself for a new game from the guys who worked on that franchise for Nintendo's 3DS. Ghost Camera (as it is so cleverly named) looks to actually make use of some of the system's undervalued features.
So what do you think? Obviously, the text and dialogue isn't much help to those who don't speak Japanese but it looks interesting enough. The 3DS could use some new titles in 2012 as well, maybe this will fit the bill (assuming it makes its way overseas, unlike Fatal Frame 4).
