[Wii U] Nintendo confirms that the Wii U is still being sold at a loss

[Wii U] Nintendo confirms that the Wii U is still being sold at a loss

Are you waiting for the Wii U to drop in price? If so I'd recommend you get comfortable, because Nintendo has confirmed that they still aren't making a profit on individual console sales.

GI.biz is reporting that Nintendo confirmed the sad state of affairs just today. This disappointing news is less than desirable follow-up to Nintendo's recent annual report either. That was the infamous report that confirmed that the console distributor had only managed to ship 160,000 units globally over a few months.

There are those among us who remember the 3DS launch all too well, it suffered from the same sort of issues that the Wii U is currently suffering from. Thankfully Nintendo has managed to find some form with their handheld platform with a number of high calibre titles; now the Wii U needs that effort. Of course, a huge part of the comeback of the 3DS was the drastic price cut Nintendo were forced to apply, they do not seem eager to do that again for the Wii U.

When do you think Nintendo will apply their first price cut? Have you picked up a Wii U yet; if not, why?

Activision have put any doubts about a Wii U version of Call of Duty: Ghosts to bed by confirming the game for Nintendo's platform.

That's right, the pointless and frustrating guessing game is at an end.

A press release from Activision revealed that the Wii U version will welcome back Wii Remote integration as well as second-screen support on the Wii U GamePad.

Call of Duty: Ghosts will be available for the Wii U on November 5th.

Will you be picking it up?

Thanks Kotaku Australia.

[PC] Konami confirms Castlevania: Lords of Shadow for PC release this August

[PC] Konami confirms Castlevania: Lords of Shadow for PC release this August

Although their pre-E3 stream this Friday is set to focus on a number of projects, including Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, that hasn't stopped Konami from confirming that the 2010 original for release on PC this August through retail and Valve's Steam.

You can check out the game's first trailer below:

The so-called 'ultimate edition' will include the original Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and the two downloadable content packs, Reverie and Resurrection.

Will you be picking it up? I reviewed Castlevania: Lords of Shadow for PlayStation 3 and quite happily gave it a passing grade. It's definitely not setting new standards for Castlevania but manages to hold its own as an action game.

[Multi] DICE confirms focus on Battlefield 4; no more Bad Company games coming yet

[Multi] DICE confirms focus on Battlefield 4; no more Bad Company games coming yet
[Image: game-news-image-2013-7b78f840e56ad93e155...b94848.jpg]
I actually enjoyed chunks of Bad Company 2, which is why I actually looked forward to the potential of seeing a third game in the spin-off series now that Battlefield 3 was out of the way. However, it appears that isn't happening anytime soon.

Eurogamer is reporting that a recent tweet from the official Battlefield account has confirmed that the team is focused on Battlefield 4 and the subsequent DLC at the moment.

"We love the Bad Company series, but don't have it in active development," claims the account. "Battlefield 4 is our main focus for the year."

This makes sense, Battlefield 4 is coming this October for PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. DICE simply don't have time for a new Bad Company game at the moment and considering how severely Battlefield 3's sales eclipsed those amassed by Bad Company 2 its no surprise.

That doesn't stop me from feeling a little bit disappointed. Oh well, let's see if EA and DICE can win me over for another shooter, although I feel as though I'm probably going to skip on them for now and pick up a premium release with the DLC (that's right, EA, I'm still bitter about Battlefield 3's 'Premium Edition').

Do you want a Bad Company 3?

[Image: game-news-image-2013-0159f1f913a8d7eb80a...99d1b9.jpg]
Blizzard has slapped an official street date on the console port for their latest action RPG, Diablo III. The announcement went live on Battle.net and also revealed that the game would be coming to the Xbox 360.

Blizzard also revealed that pre-ordered copies of Diablo III will include a redeemable code for an Infermal Helm (an in-game item) that can be worn at level 1. It offers a +EXP bonus to get your characters started.

So, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 players will get their chance to venture to New Tristram and beyond on the 3rd of September. No release date has been offered for the PlayStation 4; Blizzard also told Joystiq that they have no further platform announcements to make at this time.

Do you think it'll find its way to the Xbox One as well?

[E3'13, Wii U, 3DS] Sakurai confirms we'll see a Super Smash Bros. 4 trailer at E3

[E3'13, Wii U, 3DS] Sakurai confirms we'll see a Super Smash Bros. 4 trailer at E3
[Image: game-news-image-2013-f461a02236fab958c2d...ef39d8.jpg]
Previously we had heard from Iwata that Super Smash Bros. 4 would be shown during Nintendo's E3 stream in the form of screenshots. That's pretty good, right?

Well, I've got even better news for you now! Sakurai took to Twitter to confirm that we'll actually see our first trailer for Super Smash Bros. 4 at E3 next week.

Vooks has a rough translation of the tweet in question:

"I have an announcement. During the Nintendo Direct to be broadcast from 11PM on the night of June 11th, the first trailer of the new entry in the ‘Super Smash Bros.” series will be broadcast. For the first time, simultaneously across the world! Do not miss it."

Will we see the game running on Wii U, 3DS, or both?

Either way if that doesn't get you excited then you mustn't be much of a Nintendo fan. Now I need to make some amendments to the rough draft of my E3 preview.

[PC, PS3] Square Enix confirms Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn for Summer launch

[PC, PS3] Square Enix confirms Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn for Summer launch
[Image: game-news-image-2013-158014ae556818c94ed...1c0807.jpg]
Final Fantasy XIV turned out to be a wake up call to Square Enix; the Japanese developer and publisher has been putting a lot of effort into restoring the game prior to its disappointing launch.

Today the company confirmed that the re-launched Final Fantasy XIV will be made available sometime this Summer for PC and PlayStation 3.

Additionally, they also confirmed that the game will be entering the third phase of its closed beta test this June. The third phase will allow PlayStation 3 users to jump on board and get their first taste of Final Fantasy XIV action and experience the world of Eorzea alongside PC players. It will also introduce participants to new content, including the introduction of two new city states: Ul'dah and Limsa Lominsa.

If you haven't applied for beta entry yet then head over here or here to register your interest.

You can probably expect a release date announcement at E3.

[Wii U] Nintendo announces Wii U Virtual Console; confirms Earthbound is on the way

[Wii U] Nintendo announces Wii U Virtual Console; confirms Earthbound is on the way
[Image: game-news-image-2013-8bfc1c9eb045bbe712c...2002a3.jpg]
So, the Wii U Spring System Update will drop next week. It will speed up the console when switching between applications and will also add and enhance functionality.

The day after the update launches the Wii U Virtual Console service will kick off. Additionally, a free demo will be made available for Wii U Panorama View on the Nintendo eShop.

But most importantly, Nintendo have announced that Earthbound will be arriving on the Wii U's Virtual Console sometime before the end of the year. That's right, Earthbound is coming! This is great news considering how touchy Nintendo has been about the subject in recent months, but apparently fan outcry helped them change their minds and make it happen.

This is especially good news for European gamers, as we've never had the chance to play the game legally (due to the fact Earthbound never came out over here) unless you imported a console and a copy of the game. So, I'm especially eager to drop my money on this game and show my support.

Earthbound, as well as other Virtual Console titles on the Wii U, will support Off-TV play and potentially Miiverse Community support. I say potentially because I'm not sure if all Virtual Console releases will support it.

Remember BioShock 2? If not, don't stress, I try to forget about it sometimes too. But one thing you might remember is that the development team decided to add a multiplayer component.

Since then many have been wondering if Irrational Games would include such a feature in BioShock Infinite. Today Ken Levine has put the conversation to bed permanently though.

When he was quizzed about the inclusion of multiplayer on Twitter Levine responded by saying "no multi."

That's a relief if you ask me, BioShock Infinite definitely didn't need a multiplayer component shoehorned in to satisfy the general audience. It wisely focusing on what it does best.

[Wii U] GameStop confirms that Wii U software pre-orders double the Wii's numbers

[Wii U] GameStop confirms that Wii U software pre-orders double the Wii's numbers
[Image: game-news-image-2012-3792fa1f6eb8d565e76...7c6744.jpg]
How many Wii U games have been pre-ordered? GameStop have a partial answer to that question (partial in the sense that they have confirmed some figures for GameStop pre-orders) and the numbers aren't looking too shabby at all.

Gamasutra has posted a report revealing that 1.2 million pre-orders have been lodged for Wii U software, those are pretty good for the record. The report also reveals that GameStop's 500,000 Wii U consoles were sold out via pre-order almost immediately after the purchase option was made available in September.

Naturally, the increased software pre-order figures can be chalked up to a stronger line-up than the Wii had (which only had a couple of stand-up titles) including New Super Mario Bros. U, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, ZombiU, Assassin's Creed 3, Darksiders 2, Mass Effect 3, Batman: Arkham City, Scribblenauts Unlimited, and Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge.

Can the Wii U replicate the Wii's success by unifying the casual audience and winning back the core gamers that felt abandoned during the Wii's lifespan?

Nar the games thing is the fault of lazy developers, we have gone from tagged on "Waggle" controls to tagged on touch screen controls.

RE: [Wii U] GameStop confirms that Wii U software pre-orders double the Wii's numbers
I dunno, seems like a pretty solid mix to me. Nintendo Land, New Super Mario Bros. U, ZombiU, and Scribblenauts Unlimited for new stuff. Black Ops 2, Assassin's Creed III, Darksiders 2, Mass Effect 3, Arkham City, Ninja Gaiden 3 to give a strong supporting class if you don't already own them on other consoles. The only thing missing to me (that is preventing me from buying one right now) is that really killer launch exclusive. At least the Wii had Twilight Princess. [Image: default.png]

[PC, PS3, X360] BioWare confirms 'Resurgence' pack for Mass Effect 3's multiplayer

[PC, PS3, X360] BioWare confirms 'Resurgence' pack for Mass Effect 3's multiplayer
[Image: game-news-image-2012-20769f8dde926c7ea62...2501d0.jpg]
The most surprising thing about Mass Effect 3 besides how average the ending was the fact that the multiplayer was actually enjoyable. It came with a decent selection of classes and a handful of maps, however to maintain activity it will naturally need additional content.

Seemingly answering the call, BioWare has announced the 'Resurgence' DLC pack that will add a few new maps, new classes, weapons and consumable power-ups.

The two maps include Firebase Condor, a map set on the battle-torn moon of Palaven, and Firebase Hydra, which is a map set on an abandoned Quarian colony that has been transformer into a power facility. The new characters include a Krogan Vanguard, Asari Justicar Adept, Geth Engineer, Geth Infiltrator, Batarian Soldier and Batarian Sentinel. So finally those who have wanted to play as Geth (Like this reporter) will finally have their way! Additional new weapons include Striker Assault Rifle, Kishock Harpoon Gun and Geth Plasma SMG. Finally, the new consumables will tweak different things as a one-time temporary boost such as Strength Enhancer (Applies a melee damage boost for one mission), Targeting VI (Applies a headshot damage bonus for one mission), Stabilization Module (Stabilizes weapons while firing and moving for one mission), and Shield Power Cells (Shortens the length of time for shield recharges to kick in).

You'll be able to pick up this DLC for the low, low price of zero dollars. That's right, it'll be made available at no additional charge. Xbox 360 and Origin users can look forward to it becoming made available on the 10th of April, whilst PS3 users will get access on the 10th of April (NA) or 11th of April (EU).

I've spent a lot of time in the multiplayer, so I'm actually quite excited for this free content drop.

[Vita] Konami confirms Silent Hill:Book of Memories delayed indefinitely
[Image: game-news-image-2012-834ac8f97f72cf51a8e...43e886.jpg]
Silent Hill: Book of Memories has been constantly under fire from the dedicated Silent Hill fanbase, then we heard rumblings that it might be facing a delay.

Well, now a Konami rep has confirmed to RipTen that the game has in fact been delayed but they were also not willing to commit to a release date at this time.

"Unfortunately Book of Memories has been delayed. Stay tuned for a more formal announcement."

Most retailers have it listed for a May 31st releaes date, but considering this is a Thursday (And most American releases fall on Tuesday) it is likely to be a place-holder date. Any guesses as to why Konami has delayed Book of Memories. The game is currently in a state where it may not be able to recover from, but Konami has proven stubborn in their efforts to ignore fans as far as Book of Memories development goes.

The guys over at Irrational Games had been somewhat quiet when it came to talking release dates for their upcoming title, BioShock: Infinite. Today they have broken that silence and confirmed that gamers will be able to get their hands on the finished product as of the 16th of October in America (with the 19th of October as the international date) for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Are you guys excited to get your hands on the newest BioShock game? Are you also hopeful that it will wash away your memories of BioShock 2?

Stay tuned for more news.

We don't how crowded Q4 will be anyway.

We know we have this, AC3, BlOps 2, MoH: Warfighter, and the Wii U at this point. Of those I'm only getting this and the Wii U. Essentially I have smooth sailing ahead, unless something is announced that throws me off.

[X360] Mojang confirms that Minecraft for 360 will feature split-screen, no mods

[X360] Mojang confirms that Minecraft for 360 will feature split-screen, no mods
[Image: game-news-image-2012-8ea66463fd487dc7366...31ca31.jpg]
Mojang have been hard at work on Minecraft recently, pushing it further now that it has passed beyond the final 1.0 release, improving the mobile version and also working on getting the Xbox 360 version ready for release. Things are progressing nicely, and we've recently learned a couple of new things about the console version of Majong's popular PC title.

One of the popular aspects of Minecraft is the multiplayer but often it can be to troublesome and tiresome to figure out what server your friends are on and then joining them. Imagine my relief when I discovered that this new version will include split-screen for 1-4 players as well as allowing gamers to jump into games for up to eight players (drop-in and drop-out) for all the construction capers you can imagine.

Another aspect that might have worried some fans is how the update system and addition of extra content would work considering Microsoft's money-driven method of delivering new content. Microsoft have worked out a deal though, it will allow patches and improvements as well as new content to be added through 'Title Updates' (which typically don't include new content, only patch and bug fixes). Kinect compatibility did come up but sadly won't be available at launch, instead it'll be arriving later down the road. Due to the nature of it being on a console you will not be able to mod it either, which should come as no surprise.

I've spent my fair share of hours in Minecraft on PC but this Xbox 360 version sounds like it'll be well worth checking out. The very idea of jumping online so easily with friends for some mining and adventuring allures me.

[Wii] Nintendo of Europe confirms Pandora's Tower release date
Rounding out the three surprise Wii hits is Pandora's Tower, this was one game that I thought even Nintendo of Europe might pass on but they saw things differently. The game is scheduled to release across Europe on the 13th of April and will release with a special edition featuring a steelbook case and a 32 page artbook showcasing the game's best pieces.

Nintendo of America has not made any announcements about localising this game yet, but considering they are bringing across Xenoblade and The Last Story it is only a matter of time (or pressure) until they do so.

There are no localised trailers currently, so here's an old one courtesy of IGN.

[PS3, X360] Kojima confirms Metal Gear Rising will be playable at E3
[Image: game-news-image-2012-d6b0e40a11279b268d1...155983.png]
This year's E3 is taking place in June, that might seem far way but that doesn't concern Hideo Kojima. In the newest issue of Famitsu he confirmed that the collaboration between Kojima Productions and Platinum Games will be playable on the show floor in a few months time. The interview also involves Platinum Games CEO, Tatsuya Minami, and producer, Atsushi Inaba.

Other topics in the interview include a look back at how the incredibly strange collaboration came to exist, Minami recalls how they thought it was a joke at first. Kojima chimes in saying "even though we were serious, we didn't get a response, so we asked a second time one year later." Kojima was somewhat uncertain when it came to including a stealth component in Revegeance, so that was the first thing that Platinum Games tossed out the window, according to Minami.

Kojima also reiterated that he is not involved in the project, so everything is in Platinum Games skilled hands.

[PS4] Sony Confirms it is Working on PlayStation 4

[PS4] Sony Confirms it is Working on PlayStation 4
[Image: game-news-image-2011-b75294d10c35f601f2b...f7e3e7.jpg]
While not unexpected news for most gamers, Sony VP and CFO Masaru Kato revealed today during a conference call to investors that work is under way on the PlayStation 4. He made the revelation when asked about increased research and development costs.

"For the home equipment the PS3 still has a product life," he said, "but this is a platform business, so for the future platform - when we'll be introducing what product I cannot discuss that - but our development work is already under way, so the costs are incurred there."

Oddly enough, this announcement starkly contrasts Kaz Hirai's recent comments that "a near-future PS4 or next-generation home console is not something that we are even debating now." While no time frame was given today for when Sony's next console might be launched or even shown, it seems likely that we are still a long ways away from seeing the PlayStation 4.
