The Hip Hop Dance Experience 'keeping it real' Nov. 13

The Hip Hop Dance Experience 'keeping it real' Nov 13
Ubisoft's next excursion into the world of Wii/Kinect dancing games, The Hip Hop Dance Experience, has been given a new trailer, a gallery of screenshots and – more importantly – a release date of November 13.

Rather than focusing on one musical act in particular, as it did with its last "Experience" games, Ubisoft seeks to encompass the whole of a genre with fresh kicks and sweet beats. Obviously, there's more to hip hop than just dancing (rapping, DJing and graffiti art, specifically) but One-Fourth The Hip Hop Experience doesn't exactly roll off the tongue.

Ubisoft dropping 'Hip Hop Dance Experience' like it's hot

Ubisoft dropping 'Hip Hop Dance Experience' like it's hot
The latest celebrity to be featured in a Ubisoft dance "Experience" game is ... nobody in particular. The Hip Hop Dance Experience, rather than focusing on the work of a single artist, is a dancing game built around a collection of hip hop tracks, representing everything from the "Rapper's Delight" to Flo Rida.

The Hip Hop Dance Experience will be out on Kinect and Wii in November. It'll debut at this weekend's Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival, which is attended by plenty of people who have experienced hip hop dance already.

Like last year's Black Eyed Peas Experience, Ubisoft has placed development in the hands of Elite Beat Agents creator iNiS. Unlike last year, however, we know iNiS is also working on an original music game, so this isn't as much of a crisis for iNiS fans.

SAN FRANCISCO - July 12, 2012 - Today, Ubisoft® announced the development of The Hip Hop Dance Experience, the latest installment in the chart-topping Experience dance game franchise. The Hip Hop Dance Experience releases worldwide in November for Kinect™ for Xbox 360® and Wii™ system from Nintendo. Ubisoft's Experience franchise was the second largest dance video game franchise of 2011 and has sold more than five million copies worldwide* by making an artist's musical universe accessible to fans through interactive and immersive games. The Wii U line is E3's most popular experience

by on Jun 9th 2011 6:30AM

Reactions to the Wii U and its controller have been somewhat mixed. Despite that, or perhaps because of that, there is no shortage of people hoping to find out for themselves. On Tuesday morning, we saw a sign warning of a one-hour line to try the device. On Wednesday morning, the line was five hours long. On Wednesday afternoon, "Sorry Line Closed."

"Hey, what did you see at E3," several hundred attendees' friends will ask them next week. "The guy standing in front of me in the Nintendo line, mostly," those attendees will respond.

Analysts consider dance genre 'bubble,' Ubisoft says more 'The Experience' games possible

by on Apr 25th 2011 5:30PM

Ubisoft's Just Dance and its successful clones like Michael Jackson: The Experience, along with Harmonix's Dance Central, have established the dance genre as a viable market for milking. Now the industry must play the delicate game of sucking the marrow dry without creating a zombie.

Gamasutra hit up go-to industry analysts Michael Pachter and Jesse Divnich for their takes on the sustainability of the genre. Both analysts essentially characterized dance games as part of a bubble that is largely unaffected by critical reception (UK hit Zumba Fitness has a 43 on Metacritic). "In short, yes, the dance category is a bubble," said Divnich, "much like most things in entertainment."

That doesn't mean that the bubble is about to burst -- or that the bottle of suds is close to empty. At least, Ubisoft is planning to keep on dipping in. The publisher's Tony Key teased that Michael Jackson: The Experience is "just the first 'The Experience' brand." He added that there's no reason why "another artist can't make a great dance game under 'The Experience brand,'" but didn't pitch any bright ideas. The Smurfs, anyone?

YouTube seeking developers for 'console-based TV experience'

by on Feb 17th 2011 5:40PM

Google is, apparently, a wonderful place to work, but its products have rarely afforded video game developers an opportunity to work for the company. Well, until now.

YouTube is seeking to build a "next generation game-console-based TV experience with YouTube video content," and is seeking programmers with "deep technical knowledge of Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3 and/or Nintendo Wii." Given the everyday stories of layoffs in our industry, there will be no dearth of qualified applicants.

Google currently offers a functional, but not particularly optimized, experience for Wii and PS3 via the consoles' internet browsers called YouTube XL (pictured above). Think you can make something better than this?

Kinect Wii Call of Duty

Forget about playing Call of Duty with the keyboard and mouse or gamepad, those devices are so yesterday. Just fork out some money for a Nintendo Wii and Microsoft Kinect, configure your PC to support those controllers, load up Call of Duty and you’re good to go. A geek who calls himself Demize2010 on YouTube did just that and show us how real men play Call of Duty, and man it sure is immersive. Using the Wii controllers to shoot and move about wasn’t enough for him, he modified the Kinect to allow him to lean around a corner, jump and even crouch. The only thing missing now is the pain you feel when you get hit by a bullet. Someone’s going to figure it out eventually, I can just sense it. Watch a video of the Wii and Kinect Call of Duty game in action after the break:
