Disney Infinity moves 3 million starter packs

Disney Infinity may have been named as a reference to its own potential revenue - The New York Times reports that Disney Interactive has sold three million Disney Infinity Starter Packs, which include figurines of three Disney characters and the game itself. Infinity was also the tenth best-selling game of 2013, according to data from the NPD Group.

Activision's Skylanders Swap Force, Infinity's main competition, was not one of the top 10 best-selling games of 2013, but the Skylanders series' revenue from retail sales surpassed $1.5 billion earlier this year. Consoles have received annual installments of the Skylanders franchise since its introduction with Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure.

Plans to expand Infinity's cast have resulted in new figurines for Disney's Frozen, Wreck-It Ralph and Tangled films, with references to classic moments from past films being recreated in Infinity's Toy Box mode. With Infinity's introduction doubling Disney Interactive's fourth-quarter earnings, Infinity's play set is likely to keep expanding. Future additions might not be determined by developers though - only The Claw knows who will go and who will stay.

Disney Interactive Announces Wave #1 of Disney Infinity Power Discs

20 Power Discs Available on August 18 in Blind Packs of Two

Disney Interactive today announced its first wave of the Disney Infinity Power Discs, additional play pieces that give gamers the opportunity to enhance and transform their experience. By placing either the Circular or Hexagonal Power Discs on the Disney Infinity base, it allows them to unlock special powers, classic Disney gadgets, themes and vehicles.

The Circular Power Discs grant characters special power ups that can be used in both Play Set and Toy Box modes. Hexagonal Power Discs unlock special gadgets, vehicles and themes to allow for even more personalization and customization opportunities within Toy Box mode. Players can stack up to two Circular Power Discs or up to three Hexagonal Power Discs to optimize all the add-ons. There will also be three rare discs, designated with a special lenticular design.

Starting at launch, the power discs will be available in blind packs of two for $4.99, making these collectable and tradable discs, a must have to enhance your Disney Infinity experience. Below is the full list of the Power Discs and additional information on Disney Infinity.

Bolt's Super Strength – Character that you're playing with does 10% more damage

REVIEW: PEGA Blue Light Charging Station w/ 2x 2800 mAh Battery packs

The item up for review is a USB powered Dual Charging station with 2 battery packs made by PEGA.  Once I cut open the packaging and chuckled at the weird “Wii” logo on front, I began to set up the charging station.  The charging station has a plug for the usb cord, an on/off switch and two cradles for your battery packs.

Initially, you are instructed to fully charge the batteries for 12 hours.  If you do not follow these simple instructions it can shorten the life span of the batteries.  As with most other rechargeable battery products, you are also instructed to charge only when batteries are fully depleted.  If you do not, this also can shorten the life span of the batteries.

I was able to play for several hours but then unexpectedly one my remotes charge died.  I still don’t know why and I don’t have the available time to keep testing this out.  However, I will note that my other battery pack has yet to drain so I am cautiously optimistic about the life span on the charge.  To fully charge the battery pack you will need between 5 – 8 hours.  This was not an issue for me as I have plenty of down time in my day in order to charge the batteries.

The base itself as you can see in the picture is glossy white, surrounded at the bottom by a thin strip of light.   When plugged into a USB port (the only way to power the charger) and powered on, the strip glows bright blue.  When the battery packs are inserted to be charged an additional strip above the blue light will glow red.  This makes for a visually pleasing experience when sitting next to your Wii.  At least, it did in my case.  Once the charging is complete, the red lights turn to blue and the batteries can be removed from the charger.

Please note, if you leave the charging station plugged into the Wii and turn off the Wii (without WiiConnect24 turned on) the charging station will not be powered.  However, if you have WiiConnect24 on and you power down your Wii (you should have the orange light) you can still charge the batteries.  Just remember, by leaving your Wii off while having the WiiConnect24 enabled (orange light) the Wii will eventually overheat.  This has the potential to damage your GPU.  I choose to just plug the charging station into my computer and charge overnight.

FINAL THOUGHTS - Goodbye countless trips to buy AA batteries!

The PEGA Charge Station is an inexpensive alternative to continuously buying batteries for your Nintendo Wii controllers.  At just $12.80 (USD), the PEGA Charging Station is easy on the wallet.  In addition, the aesthetics are quite pleasing with the complimentary white base and the bright blue-red indicator lights.
