Nintendo launches Rhythm Heaven Fever with a party at iam8bit

by on Feb 11th 2012 1:00PM

Los Angeles' iam8bit gallery played host to Nintendo last night, as the two companies launched Rhythm Heaven Fever with a full scale party. There were plenty of demos of the game on display, live painting by artists Yoskay Yamamoto and Mari Inukai, a live DJ spinning tunes, and a few photo booths where players could dress up and pose, or even dance for a video running on Nintendo's own site.
The event was a lot of fun, and you can pretend you were able to be there by browsing through the gallery below. iam8bit always does a great job with these events, and co-founder Jon Gibson promised us there's lots more on the way: He's currently working hard on the leetUP event that iam8bit is co-hosting at the beginning of next month, and says VIP tickets for that one have sold out already. We'll be in attendance, so stay tuned for more.

Rhythm Heaven Fever – Short Gameplay Trailer

The game is played with the Wii Remote held vertically, with players required to either tap the A button, or squeeze the A and B buttons together. Like previous titles, the game features various levels with their own set of rules, requiring the player to play in time to the rhythm in order to clear them. These levels range from stabbing peas with a fork, to attacking evil spirits with a sword and playing badminton in midair. At the end of each level, players are ranked on their performance, with at least an ‘Okay’ rank required to clear the level and progress onto the next. Each set of levels culminates in a Remix stage, which combines all the gameplay elements of the previous levels in one stage. There are a total of 50 levels divided across 10 sets.

Clearing levels with a Superb/High Level rating earns medals which unlock extra content, including Rhythm Toys, Endless Minigames and levels from the original Rhythm Tengoku. Levels that have been cleared with a Superb rating may also be randomly selected for a Perfect attempt, in which the player can try to clear the level without making any mistakes with the maximum of 3 retries before the perfect challenge disappear.

New to the series (bar the Arcade version of Rhythm Tengoku) is a multiplayer mode, in which two players can play simultaneously. Levels played in multiplayer require players to earn enough points in total to reach the desired rank and clear each stage, with bonus points awarded based on the harmony of the players. These levels come with their own set of medals which can unlock multiplayer minigames.

Rhythm Heaven Fever arrives February 13, with a budget price tag

by on Dec 13th 2011 9:15AM

To be honest, we were worried that Nintendo had decided against bringing the decidedly quirky Rhythm Heaven series to Wii after all. But much like the surprise announcement of a North American release of Xenoblade Chronicles, Nintendo revealed a new name and release window for Rhythm Heaven Fever in the pages of this month's Nintendo Power.

And now we know the specific date and price: Come February 13th, make your special Valentine (that's us!) happy with a fresh copy of Rhythm Heaven Fever, reasonably priced at $29.99. That's one way to overcome a perceived niche audience!

Rhythm Heaven Fever spreads to North America in February

by on Nov 29th 2011 6:00PM

Open the latest issue of Nintendo Power and you'll find yourself looking at four pages of heaven. Rhythm Heaven, specifically. The magazine drops the news we've been waiting for: an official release window for the Wii iteration of Nintendo and Tsunku's musical minigame series, titled Rhythm Heaven Fever. It's set for February 2012.

The article introduces several of the vibrantly cartoonish, inexplicable activities in which you'll engage, including seesaw inspection, tambourine practice with a monkey instructor, and protecting your date from an onslaught of soccer balls.

[Thanks, Aileen!]
