[3DS] Konami reveal new 'strategy portal' for 3DS game, Castlevania: Mirror of Fate

[3DS] Konami reveal new 'strategy portal' for 3DS game, Castlevania: Mirror of Fate
[Image: game-news-image-2013-c5997392bdfa85041a7...e593f3.jpg]
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate, a.k.a the game with the longest name, has been on store shelves for over a month now. If you haven't finished it and are having some trouble then Konami have some news that might make you smile.

I opened up my inbox to find an e-mail revealing the new 'strategy portal' for Konami and MercurySteam's latest 3DS title, which offers players insight into the game's maps, enemies and combos.

You can check out the guide here but it is also designed to be browsed on the 3DS internet browser. The guide was put together by the guys over at Future Press and seems surprisingly extensive considering it is available at no extra cost.

It is definitely worth a look if you're stuck in Mirror of Fate, which I regrettably been unable to check out as of yet.

[PC, Mac] Valve brings split-screen co-operative play to PC copies of Portal 2

[PC, Mac] Valve brings split-screen co-operative play to PC copies of Portal 2
[Image: game-news-image-2012-415e6c93e69be401b13...77634b.jpg]
Portal 2 featured split-screen co-operative play on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the popular puzzle game, but PC players did not get access to it.

Until now that is.

Valve has deployed the update for Portal 2 owners on PC/Mac, when the update is installed players can take part in the standard two-player co-op on the same screen.

Enough reason for you to go back to the game?

Portal 2 crowned best game of 2011 by the Associated Press

by on Dec 20th 2011 7:00PM

The AP has unleashed its list of top ten games this year and ... it's a pretty competent list. Not only did Bastion make the cut, but so did Rayman Origins and, as you may have guessed from the headline to this very post, Portal 2.

Valve's game took top honors, followed by Skyrim and then Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Rounding out the top five are Bastion and Rocksteady's sequel, Batman: Arkham City. In a year so full of great games, we envy AP's finished list -- for us, the work of choosing our favorite games of 2011 is only about to begin.

Portal 2 dominates UK charts; Mortal Kombat maintains second place

by on May 3rd 2011 8:45AM

Valve's Portal 2 and Warner Bros. Interactive's Mortal Kombat stayed locked in kombat for a second week at the top of the UK software sales chart. Portal 2 maintained its dominance for a second round, but opted not to perform a fatality on Mortal Kombat. Spectators of the tournament included Zumba Fitness, Operation Flashpoint: Red River and Call of Duty: Black Ops in spots three through five, respectively.

The holiday double-whammy in the UK last week (Easter Monday and the Royal Wedding) caused a disturbance in sales. The top ten consisted only of previously released titles, with Just Dance 2 doing the cha-cha back up the charts to re-enter in the 10 spot.

Chart-Track
notes that Sega launched two new titles last week, with Virtua Tennis 4 charting at number 23 and Thor: God of Thunder missing the Top 40 entirely. Check out the usual suspects of chart toppers after the break.

Notes:
- Note that PC sales for Portal 2 do not include Steam sales which are not made public but likely in excess of 300k.
- In case you didn't feel like doing the math, Portal 2 edged Mortal Kombat on consoles in the Americas ever so slightly by 536,395 to 533,898. Factoring in European sales gives Mortal Kombat the edge 732k to 723k. Impressive by both nonetheless.
-The mediocre software lineup for the 3DS appears to be hurting sales as it drops below the regular DS for the first time since launch and has no games in the top 20 in the Americas, and sold fewer units than any other current handheld or console in Europe in this week.
- Conduit 2 debut sales are down almost 40,000 units from the first game's debut in 2009.
- Gears of War 3 pre-orders are more than four times higher than either Halo 3 or Call of Duty: Black Ops were 22 weeks before launch, although that likely has a lot to do with the beta that is available to those who pre-order Gears 3.
- Grand Theft Auto IV is the third PS3 game to sell 8 million copies worldwide (and the first non-Call of Duty game).

Debuts:
- Portal 2 (X360) - 310,486 (#1)

Platforms: PC (reviewed), Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Mac
Genre: First-Person, Puzzle
Developer: Valve Software
Publisher: Valve Software, Electronic Arts
Release Date: April 19, 2011

Upon having completed Portal over three years ago I felt as though I’d just played a near perfect game. So where does that leave its sequel? After all, it’s a game that manages to improve upon everything the original brought to the table, and then it goes the extra mile and adds even more.

It’s been a while since the events at the end of Portal and it goes without saying that GLaDOS is none too pleased about how that all turned out. You play as Chell yet again, the same mute, imprisoned protagonist and test subject from the first game, as you attempt to escape once more from a quickly deteriorating Aperture Science complex.

It's 'Portal Kombat' atop the UK charts

by on Apr 26th 2011 12:00PM

Portal 2 nabbed the top spot on the UK software sales chart last week, followed by Warner Bros. Interactive's Mortal Kombat reboot in second place. According to Chart-Track, Portal 2 was actually Valve's first ever all-formats chart topper -- the closest the company ever got to the crown was with The Orange Box, which reached third place.

Call of Duty: Black Ops "price promotions" in the region caused Activision's behemoth to jump back into the the top three, followed by last week's chart topper, Zumba Fitness, which still increased sales by 10 percent last week. The top five was rounded out by the blockheads of Lego Star Wars 3: The Clone Wars.

Operation Flashpoint: Red River also had a solid debut, entering the charts in sixth place. Check out the full top ten after the break.

[PC, PS3, X360] Review Roundup - Portal 2

[PC, PS3, X360] Review Roundup - Portal 2 [Image: game-news-image-2011-f666a946c4d3f3b1f56...a3473f.jpg]GameSpot - 9/10 - "As you journey through the massive Aperture facility, it becomes clear that Portal 2 does not merely come after Portal. Instead, it radiates outward from its predecessor, simultaneously illuminating the world that gave rise to Portal and continuing the adventure that began there. The sense of novelty is diminished, but the thrill of exploration and puzzle-solving is still intoxicating, and it's amazing how Portal 2 manages to tell a better story with disembodied voices and spherical robots than most games can with full-on humans. Your return to Aperture Science is a joyful one in this immensely appealing, laugh-out-loud funny, and thoroughly satisfying sequel."

VideoGamer - 10/10 - "I think you knew all along this was going to be great. Fantastic, even. All the same, I don't think you'll be prepared for it being this good. I may have buttoned my lip in terms of concrete spoilers, but a mere ten minutes here will yield more memorable moments than you're likely to squeeze out of the entirety of most other games this year. In all aspects of its design, Portal 2 is genius."

Game Informer - 9.5/10 - "Portal 2’s puzzles are more varied thanks to the fact that you can send lasers, tractor beams, and energy walkways through your portals, and I absolutely loved how the gels affected the world around me. The game’s simple, portal-based mechanics are so addictive that you’ll probably catch yourself placing imaginary portals all over your house. Thankfully these mechanics never feel overdone and neither does the game’s humor; I would often hang around completed puzzles just to see how the game’s ambient dialogue would progress. Playing co-op changes the game quite a bit, as having two sets of portals allows Valve to craft a unique set of challenges that are often more mentally stimulating that anything in single player. It doesn’t matter which order you play them in, but make sure you experience both modes. Portal 2 isn’t just one of the best games of the year – it’s two of them."

IGN - 9.5/10 - "Portal 2 makes the original look like the prototype it was. It's filled with a larger cast of characters vividly brought to life through brilliant writing and some of the best voice acting in video games. Its puzzles are challenging without being unreasonable, and, once you're finished with the single-player mode, one of the best co-operative experiences on the market awaits. Valve cuts no corners and finds ways to make you care about everything from the major characters to the cubes used to solve puzzles. From the beginning of the single-player story to the end of the co-op mode, Portal 2 is a novel, unforgettable experience."

GameTrailers - 9/10 - "Just like its predecessor, this sequel manages to wring every last ounce of enjoyment out of seemingly simple core concepts. If you're strictly into action its slow, plodding, calculated pace will be a turnoff. Yet, somehow Valve has managed to make a puzzle game that will make your pulse rise with a never ending daisy chain of positive reinforcement. It's bigger, more polished, and feels like a full-fledged game instead of an experiment, and we highly recommend it to any player ready to leave their comfort zone and feel smart in the process."
