[E3'13, PC, PS3, X360] Dark Souls II March 2014 release window outed by E3 banner
I've got this strange feeling that Dark Souls II will be released at some point in March 2014. What gives me that idea? Well, this giant banner spotted by a NeoGAF user definitely has something to do with it.
A number of GAF users are expressing interest in this game receiving the cross-generation treatment; but I'm not so sure that it'll happen. March 2014 is definitely late to the party for current generation hardware but both Microsoft and Sony seem determined to keep selling their current hardware alongside the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

What do you guys think? Too late or will the Dark Souls brand carry it? Personally, I'm still cautiously excited. Both Demon's Souls and Dark Souls are easily on my shortlist of favourite games that this generation has offered me, but I find myself worried about changes that could be made.

The reveal on IGN awhile ago soothed some of my concerns, but they are still bubbling under the surface.

Who am I kidding, this is a new Souls game. I'm on board!

Nintendo Download – March 8, 2012

If you missed it, Nintendo recently posted their plans to release some great games via the 3DS eShop. Two of those games come out today.

One of those is the NES classic Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream. The other is Fun! Fun! Minigolf TOUCH!, which lets you use your Mii characters. Zuma’s Revenge makes its way to DSiWare, and wrapping up the week, we have another Wii Virtual Console game in The King of Fighters ’97.

Nintendo Download – March 15, 2012

As we mentioned last week and in our podcast, Nintendo revealed their plans to bring Sega Game Gear games to the 3DS eShop. Today, that is exactly what fills up the majority of the Nintendo Download.

Those three Game Gear titles include Sonic the Hedgehog: Triple Trouble, Shinobi, and Dragon Crystal. On DSiWare, we get Pirates Assault. Also available today is Samurai Shodown IV: Amakusa’s Revenge for the Wii Virtual Console. No WiiWare titles for today, but we do get a free Kid Icarus 3D anime on the 3DS Nintendo Video app.

Nintendo Download – March 1, 2012

Just when you thought last week had a low number of games released, this week drops the number again. And, no, we do not mean down to three. They have dropped it down to just two. You heard us right. Two new downloadable games this week. On top of that, only one is a brand new title. However, we do get two new free demos, so maybe that might equal it out for some of you.

On the 3DS eShop, we get Metroid, which was originally released for the NES, then again for the 3DS Ambassadors. In addition, you can also download a demo of Crush 3D, which just hit the retail shelves. For DSiWare, Aahh! Spot the Difference has been added to the growing virtual store. Finally, the other demo released is for WiiWare in the form of Aya and the Cubes of Light, which originally launched in September 2011.

Konami announced that the Silent Hill HD Collection was delayed until March, but also added that they would be announcing the release dates for all of the currently in development Silent Hill titles next week. Well, luckily for us they let the cat out of the bag earlier than expected.

Let's start off with the recently delayed Silent Hill HD Collection, it is now scheduled to release on the 6th of March (yes, the same day as Mass Effect 3). It will be releasing on both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and features both Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3 with trophies, new voice acting and improved visuals.

Next up is Silent Hill: Downpour, which will be shambling into retailers on the 13th of March. The next new entry in the long-running survival-horror franchise and follows the story of Murphy Pendleton. This entry promises to bring Silent Hill back to the roots that fans have been craving as well as offering a more expansive look at a new area in the haunted town.
Finally is the dungeon-crawler PlayStation Vita offering, Silent Hill: Book of Memories, which will be dropping on Sony's new handheld as of the 27th of March. Team up with your friends and tackle a new Silent Hill story that involves the discovery of a mysterious book that contains your entire life story and memories.
So, are you ready to return to Silent Hill? If so, mark the entire month of March essentially because Konami are unleashing a downpour of titles.

I have actually been starting to doubt Downpour recently, as well. Been watching some game-play videos and there are things... that you probably shouldn't be seeing in a survival horror. QTEs, shining objects, pop-up objectives, and the like. Although I heard you can turn off those kind of things in the options menu, so I hope I'm not getting too worked up.

Pokémon Sells 2.5 Million to Lead March U.S. Portable Sales

It looks like March 2011 was not a bad time for Nintendo’s portable market. Pokémon White & Black sold 2.5 million copies combined, the DS family of systems sold more then 460,000, and Wii sold 290,000. The official press release is posted below with all the details, including information on upcoming titles and 3DS firmware updates.

The new Nintendo 3DS™ system combined with the Nintendo DS™ family of systems to make last month the best-selling March in U.S. history for Nintendo’s portable hardware business, according to the independent NPD Group, which tracks video game sales in the United States.

After only one week on sale following its March 27 launch, Nintendo 3DS sold just shy of 400,000 units. Propelled by sales of more than 1.3 million Pokémon™ White Version games and more than 1.1 million Pokémon™ Black Version games, the Nintendo DS family of systems topped all home and portable video game systems in March, with more than 460,000 sold.

“Both Nintendo 3DS and the Nintendo DS family had a strong month, indicating that Nintendo has something for everyone,” said Charlie Scibetta, Nintendo of America’s senior director of Corporate Communications. “Nintendo provides people with the best video game experiences, from 3D visuals without special glasses to a touch-screen interface to motion controls.”

Nintendo’s Wii™ console sold more than 290,000 in the United States in March, giving Nintendo combined hardware sales of more than 1.1 million for the month. The upcoming Wii Play™: Motion game launches on June 13 and will have players smiling as they use their Wii Remote™ Plus controller (or Wii Remote™ with Wii MotionPlus™ accessory) in 12 new motion-controlled games. Wii Play: Motioncomes packaged with a black Wii Remote Plus controller to deliver great value, precise motion control and immersive social fun that anyone in the household can pick up and instantly enjoy.

As Nintendo 3DS heads into its first full month of sales, a number of milestones are on the horizon to keep momentum going:

• A free future system update will provide Nintendo 3DS owners with an Internet browser and access to the Nintendo eShop, which will bring consumers a broad variety of downloadable software as well as video game trailers, screen shots and related information. The system update also delivers a solution for Nintendo DSi™ and Nintendo DSi XL™ owners to easily transfer most of their Nintendo DSiWare™ games to their new Nintendo 3DS systems.

• On June 19, The Legend of Zelda™: Ocarina of Time™ 3D introduces a completely re-mastered version of an epic entry in the beloved The Legend of Zelda game series. The game couples phenomenally enhanced graphics, stunning glasses-free 3D visuals, a touch-screen interface and newly implemented motion controls to provide a fresh experience. The game will also feature new challenges not included in the original game. The Legend of Zelda veterans can look forward to the Master Quest – a second quest with revamped puzzles and redesigned dungeons that feature the same graphical and interface upgrades as the main game.

• Later this summer, Netflix members who own a Nintendo 3DS system and can access a broadband wireless Internet connection will be able to instantly watch TV episodes and movies streaming from Netflix directly to their Nintendo 3DS systems. A Netflix unlimited membership is required.

GameStop Holding 3DS Demos on March 26 & April 2

According to GameStop’s website, they have the demos set at participating stores for March 26 and April 2. However, as of the time of this post, there are not any events listed, other than the midnight and 9am openings.

In a strange turn of events, Nintendo has decided not to release any new WiiWare game this week. Instead, we get two free demos of the previously released Dart Rage and Learning with the PooYoos: Episode 2. In addition, there are only two new titles for DSiWare, which include Simply Solitaire and Faceez: Monsters!. With this week’s Nintendo Download not being the greatest lineup, it makes one wonder if they are planning for something big. What's New on the Wii/DSi Shop Channel for March 7, 2011 - Blogcritics.org (blog)

Are you ready for bullets and bombs, Wii owners? Too bad if you're not: you're getting plenty this week! And DSi owners, you can have games where you get to be a gymnast, an explosives expert and a squishy little car made of jelly. I think that covers everyone?

This week's games are as follows:

On DSiWare this week, we have G.G Series HORIZONTAL BAR (Genterprise Inc., 1 player, 200 DSi Points), GO Series EARTH SAVER (Gamebridge, 1 player, 500 DSi Points) and JellyCar 2 (Disney Interactive, 1 player, 500 DSi Points). G.G Series HORIZONTAL BAR has you swinging and jumping from bar to bar, adding momentum to your swing and trying to hit each jump perfectly as a gymnast. Yeah, kinda weird but interesting. In GO Series EARTH SAVER, you pilot a ship that's off to save the world from a giant meteorite by creating combo chains of explosions. JellyCar 2 is a sequel to the first game in the series that features many of the same mechanics, with a few new game play modes to boot. Also, you drive around levels as a squishy car.

WiiWare has one full title this week: Heavy Fire: Black Arms (Teyon, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points), along with a demo of Soccer Bashi (Icon Games Entertainment, 1-2 players). Heavy Fire: Black Arms is the sequel to Heavy Fire: Special Operations, in which you have to go to South America and destroy a massive weapons cartel operating out of the jungle. Oh, and it's got co-op.

The Virtual Console returns with a new release, Bomberman Hero (Nintendo 64, 1 player, 1,000 Wii Points). A bit puzzled here they didn't pick Bomberman 64 instead, but the two games are pretty similar in game play style. Story's pretty similar, too: Bomberman has to save the day by blowing up the things in his way.

Bomberman Hero was released on the PAL Virtual Console last week. It, along with Heavy Fire: Black Arms and the demo, is available for download off the Wii Shop Channel, while G.G Series HORIZONTAL BAR, GO Series EARTH SAVER and JellyCar 2 are available for download off the DSi Shop Channel.

Grasshopper announcing 'charity app' at streaming event March 30

A Grasshopper Manufacture event originally announced in February will now serve as a charity function following the March 11 earthquake. The "Grasstream 2" event will be held at the Shinjuku Loft Plaza One venue on March 30, with ticket sales going to the Red Cross -- and it will also be streamed on Ustream in both English (thanks to 8-4) and Japanese.

That night, Grasshopper will show a new the GDC Shadows of the Damned trailer, accompanied by a talk by Suda 51 and audio director Akira Yamaoka. A new "charity app" will also be introduced on stage by model Kayo Sato and J-pop group Vanilla Beans. "If you own an iPhone or iPad," the announcement notes, "don't forget it!" This segment of the presentation is in the same time slot as the "new game announce" that was originally planned -- and features the same personalities on stage -- suggesting that a new Grasshopper-developed iPhone game is now being adapted for charitable purposes.

In addition, a No More Heroes 2 segment will feature music by Kazutoshi Iida, discussion from artists Yusuke Kozaki and Shigeto Koyama, and a talk by Suda about Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, which is notably similar in story to No More Heroes.
