Saints Row 4 lines up top spot in this week's UK charts

Lock the doors, turn off the lights, and grab the nearest frying pan: the silly season is upon us. The games industry's annual binge on blockbuster starts this week with Saints Row 4 grabbing the UK No. 1; fellow new releases Splinter Cell: Blacklist and Disney Infinity place second and third, respectively. The challenge will be to hold the top spot next week, when Rayman Legends and the console versions of Diablo 3 ride into town. After that there are the likes of FIFA 14, PES 2014, Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix... oh and that Grand Theft Auto thing... arghhhhh, too many games, they're everywhere, save yourselves!

Ahem. Saints Row 4 is fittingly the UK's fourth biggest launch of the year - first, second, and third are The Last of Us, BioShock Infinite, and Tomb Raider - and while its first week performance falls behind that of Saints Row: The Third, it is the bombastic series' second biggest. Talking of numbers, Disney Infinity is proving most popular on Xbox 360, which grabs 43 percent of the sales. PS3 comes in at 22 percent, while the Wii beats the Wii U with 21 percent to its successor's 10.

Lower down the charts, 2K Games might be a little disappointed to see The Bureau: XCOM Declassified only debut in tenth spot, while Platinum's The Wonderful 101 flies in at just 22nd. To provide some silly season perspective, last week's number 1, Payday 2, makes an almighty drop this week to 18th.

Medal of Honor: Warfighter unseats FIFA on UK charts

Shock and awe, Medal of Honor: Warfighter, which is receiving some of the worst reviews of the season so far, took first place in the UK last week. This is either a sign of the media's impotence or a hat tip to the brilliance of publisher EA that it withheld review copies until launch. A similar situation occurred with Resident Evil 6 a few weeks ago, a game which still sits pretty at tenth place on this week's chart.

Other new releases last week included portable games Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask and Moshi Monsters: Moshlings Theme Park, which debuted at eighth and ninth place, respectively.

If you're wondering about Just Dance 4 ('cause how can you not on the UK charts?), it may have slipped two spots from fourth to sixth, but sales were actually up one percent. Dance Central 3 debuted in 39th place. Shimmy on past the break for the UK top ten.

Sleeping Dogs rests atop UK charts

Sleeping Dogs is, once again, at the top of Chart-Track's UK all formats sales chart. This is the fourth week Square Enix's crime sandbox has rested comfortably on the throne, with its reign briefly broken a couple weeks ago by Guild Wars 2, which battles on in seventh.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 was the only major new addition to the chart last week, debuting in second. Chart-Track notes it's been 12 years since the previous entry on PlayStation 2, back in October of 2000. The rest of the top ten shuffles to make room. Punch past the break for the UK top ten.

Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes arrests top spot on UK charts

It was a quiet week on the UK top ten as Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes served justice at the top spot. The Dark Knight and pals' game is the latest chart-topper from Traveller's Tales' Lego series, with this latest title besting the first Lego Batman from 2008, which premiered in second place.

The rest of the top ten is the usual rogues' gallery, with a couple exceptions like Skyrim, which flew up from spot 23 to grab number eight. FIFA Street also re-entered the top ten, climbing from 13 to storm the last spot.

Civilization 5: Gods and Kings held court at No. 16 for its debut. We present the UK top ten after the break.

Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes flies five weeks over UK charts

Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes has held the top spot on Chart-Track's UK sales chart for five consecutive weeks, the first game this year to maintain that pace. Batman: Arkham City also swooped back into the top ten at the seven spot, likely boosted by The Dark Knight Rises film.

Despite a price drop to Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, which helped boost sales 40 percent, it held third behind London 2012: The Official Video Game. Speaking of the upcoming Olympics boosting sales, Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games (in 8th) also saw a 13 percent increase.

Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance was the only new entry in the top 40. According to Chart-Track, it is the second biggest 3DS launch this year behind Resident Evil: Revelations. See the UK top ten in 3D after the break*.

Witcher 2 enhances its spot on UK charts

Geralt of Rivia's got swagger, walkin' and witchin' to the top of the UK charts for his debut on Xbox 360. The console launch The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings – Enhanced Edition took the crown last week, with Chart-Track noting 98 percent of sales for the game were cast toward the console version.

The original PC version of The Witcher 2 reached the fifth spot on the UK charts when it premiered in May 2011, but that number didn't represent the full picture, since the chart doesn't count digitally distributed products.

Witcher 2 was the only new title to break the top 40, with the usual suspects in the top ten shifting around Geralt. FIFA Street and FIFA 12 both hold the silver and bronze, respectively. Kick on past the break for the UK top ten.

FIFA Street fights back to top of UK charts

FIFA Street returned to the top of the charts when sales were tallied in the UK last week, scoring its fourth number-one finish. Chart-Track notes the title has now matched the rank history of the original FIFA Street, which also owned the hard charting streets for four weeks back in 2005.

It was a pretty quiet week in the battle for rankings otherwise, with the entirety of the top ten playing musical chairs. Last week's chart-topper, Kinect Star Wars, was not the game more people were looking for, and slipped down to fourth.

The only new release last week to break the top 40 was Pandora's Tower from Nintendo, which debuted in spot 38. Check out the UK top ten after the break.

Prototype 2 successful on UK charts

Prototype 2 launched on Tuesday in the UK (instead of a Friday, per usual) last week and leapt to the top of the charts. Despite the strong premiere, Chart-Track notes the sequel couldn't match the first week sales success of the original game. Chart-Track doesn't share raw sales numbers, but it did point out that the game had stronger sales than previous chart-toppers Kinect Star Wars and The Witcher 2.

Speaking of Witcher 2, which held the crown last week, it slipped five spots into sixth place. EA continues to have a winning cluster with FIFA Street, FIFA 12 and Mass Effect 3 holding steady close to the top of the charts, with the group maintaining spots two through four, respectively.
