[Wii U, 3DS] Mother 4 would be impossible according to Shigesato Itoi

[Wii U, 3DS] Mother 4 would be impossible according to Shigesato Itoi

If you were hoping that the recent confirmation that Earthbound would find its way to Western Wii U owners through the Virtual Console might give us a glimmer of hope for a fourth installment then I have some bad news for you.

Kotaku is reporting that Shigesato Itoi, creator of Earthbound/Mother, has given a rather blunt answer squashing any dreams we may have had for a Mother 4.

The creator was asked by a fan if he could make Mother 4, but unfortunately Itoi's response was a rather blunt "impossible". If you can read Japanese then you can check out the tweet in question here; this is sure to disappoint many gamers. It is especially disappointing because no reason was given to explain why it would be impossible.

We'll have to settle with getting our hands on Earthbound later this year.

A Metroid marriage proposal that would make the Chozo proud

by on Feb 29th 2012 11:59PM

Marriage is a sacred commitment; it's no kind of small thing to consider. You need to show you mean business. You need to put some effort into a proposal.

Jered McFerron did when he decided to rewrite the code for the 1986 NES classic, Metroid, in the C++ programming language. This undertaking wasn't initially to propose to his love, Jenni, but struck as an inspiration mid-project when he knew she was the gal for him.

His approach involved changing key parts of the game to guide her into a special room where Samus would be confronted by the red ring item from The Legend of Zelda, as seen in the image above. Luckily for Jered -- and all of us on the internet with a soft spot for romantic stories -- she said yes.

Call of Duty action-adventure would have been 'world-class,' died in prototype

by on Sep 1st 2011 9:30PM

Sledgehammer games talks Modern Warfare 3When Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey left Dead Space developer Visceral Games at EA, it was rumored that they'd take the Call of Duty experience into the third-person perspective. Then some ... things, happened. Sledgehammer Games went radio-silent and a year later, it was revealed that Schofield and friends were working with Infinity Ward to complete Modern Warfare 3.

But what about our dreams of a third-person Call of Duty? What about them? "We came on board to make a third person action adventure game, in the Call of Duty franchise," Schofield said in a video feature on Gamespot, "and we were working on it about six months." Condrey was matter of fact about the reasoning behind Sledgehammer's action-adventure title. "There are a lot of fans out there who enjoy games like Uncharted, so you can imagine that genre meeting a world-class franchise."

Condrey decided to rub it in a little more. "We had a prototype together that was pretty compelling, and it looked really good." But the chance to help make Activision's big gun shoot straight has probably killed its would-be offshoot. "The opportunity to work on the biggest thing in the industry with ... Infinity Ward, that's demonstrated that they know how to do exceptional software, was just an opportunity we couldn't (pass up)."

Suda 51 would like to do No More Heroes 3, it just won't happen anytime soon

by on Mar 30th 2011 8:30PM

It appears that Suda 51 thinks the odds of another No More Heroes game happening in the near future are about nil. During Grasshopper Manufacture's recent streaming event, Suda said (translation via Andriasang) he'd "like to" do another entry "at some point," but it isn't something that would happen anytime "soon." Oh, now you've got JC crying, Mr. Suda. Wonderful.

Character designer Yusuke Kozaki also offered an interesting proposition: a new game where Shinobu, the high school student by day, assassin by night who appeared in both No More Heroes and No More Heroes: Desperate Struggle is the main character. Kozaki also revealed that Grasshopper had come up with so many characters, it had enough for two more No More Heroes games. Okay, guys, now you're just being cruel!

The remainder of the event then shifted to Frog Minutes, the studio's charity iOS game. We spent some time with it, which you can read all about here.
