[Multi] New Tomb Raider comic will lead directly into a sequel game

Did you play Tomb Raider earlier this year? Despite a distinct lack of tomb raiding going on the game was actually a decent attempt at making a new Tomb Raider game. There are those who would argue that the game didn't stay true enough to its name and instead attempted to pander to audiences that had swarmed to Naughty Dog's Uncharted franchise, but I'd argue that it isn't entirely a bad thing.

Don't get me wrong, I love a good Tomb Raider as much as the next person but the franchise was definitely in need of some adjustment. Crystal Dynamics proved that they were the studio to handle it.

A new interview on Kotaku with writer, Gail Simone, suggests that the forthcoming Dark Horse Tomb Raider comic arriving on February 26th, 2014 will tie directly into a sequel.

"We start just a few weeks after the end of the game, and this is all in continuity, it will be Tomb Raider canon, and lead DIRECTLY into the sequel," was Simone's response when asked about the comic's place in the Tomb Raider continuity. "This is what got me excited; we get to be part of Lara Croft history."

"The way I see Lara now is, she's not after treasure. She's not really after thrills. She's a questioner, she's an explorer. She wants answers," Simone added when asked about Lara Croft's motivation for her actions. "The thing is, she's completely unstoppable. That's what I love. Everyone underestimates her, and that is a terrible mistake to make."

I'm definitely going to keep my eye on this comic, because with her new origin story out of the way Crystal Dynamics can finally open up the Tomb Raider IP and start getting down and dirty with what makes it unique. At the very least the sequel should feature a greater emphasis on actual tomb raiding.

Thanks Destructoid.
