1UP - B+ - "It's one of the most well-made shooters on the market. It's worth your time to play if you like FPS games, and that applies to both fans and non-fans alike. It's pretty cool to have a damn good game like this in September, rather than trapped in the nightmare that is November. For two-thirds of the campaign and for multiplayer in general, what it lacks in originality or innovation, it makes up for with pure polish and craft. Yet some inconsistencies, missed opportunities, and an end sequence that peters out rather than brings it all together (I realize that this isn't part of the popular "let's end it as a trilogy" moment, but considering that how Insomniac personnel aren't sure whether they'll be making the next installment, it almost feels like a sign-off) ultimately prevent it from being a great game overall. It's easy to say that this is the best Resistance title, but it's also easy to say that it's not Insomniac's best game. "
Game Informer - 7/10 - "Insomniac approached Resistance 3 with no lack of ambition, expanding to a three-year development cycle in an effort to make this its biggest title yet. The team succeeds in some ways, as the various hand-written notes and journals you’ll find on your trek to New York City help to flesh out the story. However, more effort seems to have been put into minutia than the gameplay itself. With no reason to connect with these characters and little in the way of action to separate itself from the packed FPS crowd, Resistance 3 makes it clear that the series doesn’t belong amongst the triple-A competition in the genre."
IGN - 9/10 - "Resistance 3 offers the same polished experience as the last two games in the series, only this time the action is more focused and tightly structured. Insomniac clearly wanted to make this game a more harrowing and personal experience, and by focusing its attention on a smaller, more personal story within the invasion, it has succeeded without question. While the big military operations have been replaced by more intimate battles, the sense of scale is as intimidating as ever. This is a surprisingly emotional cinematic roller-coaster of a campaign that never lets up."
Eurogamer - 8/10 - "First-person shooter design has reached an evolutionary ceiling and desperately needs some mutant DNA to push it onwards and upwards. Resistance 3 could have provided that genetic jolt; but Insomniac has chosen to look back to how we used to play rather than grapple with how we could play in the future. As understandable as it is, that cautious approach results in a game that is extremely enjoyable, but never as imaginative as you want it to be."
