Recently Nintendo slashed the price of the 3DS, some saw that as pretty drastic action really showcasing Nintendo's desperation. However, the improved sales of the hardware are really starting to give Nintendo some positive figures. Having said that, we all know that at some point in the future there will be a redesign on the cards.
Rumours have surfaced that the redesign is in the works that would see an additional circle pad added to the handheld as well as a lessened focus on the 3D gimmick (as well as a new name potentially). For existing 3DS owners, a second circle stick would be available to them via a peripheral that would apparently sell for roughly $10. That all sounds a little wild for my imagination, especially so soon after picking up new 3DS adopters. The report comes from French site 01net who were responsible for reporting on both the technical specs of the PlayStation Vita and fact that the Wii U would have a touch-screen controller and be backwards compatible for Wii games before they were officially revealed.
Do you think Nintendo would do something this drastic? I don't doubt a redesign is on the cards, but adding a second circle pad and lessening the focus on the gimmick doesn't seem like something they'd do so soon. Remember when there were all those rumours that Sony were going to add a second stick to the PSP but never did? Perhaps this will go the same way. Personally, I'd write this off as pure rumour, but it is certain to get people talking.
