Edmund McMillen, half of the famed Team Meat developer, has posted on his blog about their next project. It is a retro PC adventure title called The Binding of Isaac

Described as a "roguelike shooter based on the dungeon structure of Zelda (NES). At its core it controls like Smash TV / Robotron in a randomly generated semi RPG world filled with powerups items and special abilities."

It won't feature a traditional levelling system, and will instead favour an item system with items being broken down into four categories (usable, special weapon upgrades, passive upgrades and stat boosters). Most of the items in the game stack, helping you to evolve your character into a monstrous powerhouse. Every level will have a treasure room, shop, boss and other secret areas. Currently there are over 70 special items that have been created for the game, not including pick-ups.

They are hoping to top out at 8 dungeons, 10 bosses and 42 enemy types (the game currently has 6 dungeons spanning 3 chapters, 6 bosses, 36 enemy types and 4 unlockable characters). He mentions that you can expect to look forward to the game sometime in August on Valve's Steam, which is actually really close.
