The 3DS hasn't been as successful as many were hoping, especially Nintendo. They are slicing the price and offering up free games for early adopters but they are also taking this upon themselves as well

Satoru Iwata is taking it upon himself and giving himself about 50% of a pay cut after the disappointment. Iwata's last annual compensation was about ¥137 million (or $1.8 million), which includes salary and performance-based compensation. He didn't announce specifics but it can be expected that he'll be receiving considerably less than this. he won't be alone either as Senior Managing Directors Shigeru Miyamoto and Shinji Hatano will take 30% cuts to their salary and other executives will lose about 20%.

As you can see Nintendo is taking this situations very seriously, so hopefully the 3DS will benefit greatly from the new price that it has received.

They feel responsible for the 3DS' failings and thus feel they have dishonoured themselves essentially. They could all have kept their salaries sitting pretty and not giving a crap.

I don't see any Nintendo of America taking any hits for their failings overseas. I really respect these guys for doing this.

They're not in financial trouble? Their annual profits were down 300m this year, and the 3DS is flopping. I would be willing to bet that even with the price drop they won't see many more sales of the device. [Image: MW7519.png] MW7519 Offline

You act as if these things mean nothing. That's just not true. You want to know why Nintendo's stock price dropped so dramatically all of sudden? Why they're 3DS sales started chugging up? Oh yeah, because they aren't doing well.

Now you can say "Oh, but the 3DS sold 4m units in 4 months, how is that bad?", well, let me see if I can explain this to you in a way you'll understand: despite selling a re-packaged DS with new graphics for $249.99, Nintendo still managed to lose 300m dollar compared to last year. Now granted, not all of that is a result of the 3DS, but considering all of their executives took gigantic pay cuts JUST BECAUSE 3DS is NOT selling well, I don't think you need me to tell you that 3DS is flopping.

I also recall someone telling me that once Ocarina came out that 3DS sales would sky rocket. I also remember saying that they wouldn't- and I was right. The increased by, what, 10,000 units for that week? Yeah, big deal.

Now, I'm not saying 3DS won't start to do better once it gets a price slash and more games- it will. But it will never achieve the sales of the DS. It's too pricey, it's much harder to program for, 3D is a complete gimmick, and its getting turned out by iPhone games. Not to mention, Vita is going to steal most of its holiday thunder.

Just wait. You can call me a fool now, but 2 years down the road, I don't see Nintendo being in such a great position.
