Good news and bad news for fans of the almost-forgotten Oddworld franchise. First, the bad news: the HD remake of the 2005 Xbox-exclusive Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath, originally scheduled for release this week, has been pushed back to the summer. Developer Just Add Water says that the delay is due to a late finish of the PC version and the addition of more new features.
The good news is that JAW announced that Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee will also get an HD remake. Munch's Oddysee was released back in 2001 as a launch title for the Xbox.
While it was originally thought that Stranger's Wrath would not going to make it to the Xbox 360, JAW is now saying that an Xbox 360 version of both games is a possibility: "There is hope," said JAW CEO Stewart Gilray. "There are various things with Microsoft. We originally faced this 2GB limit. They said to be on XBLA you have to be smaller than 2GB. But, Games on Demand, any size you want. Not sure how that works, but that's what they've told us. So they originally knocked us back for XBLA for Stranger HD, not just in size. They actually turned the project down. I'd rather not say why. We're talking to them now and we're making progress with them on that. They've been more forthcoming recently than they were in December last year. That's perhaps because when I told Lorne at Oddworld that Microsoft said no, they went, 'They said what!?' And they called up their friends at Microsoft and said, 'What!?' Lorne is Lorne. He's a bit of a formidable force in some respects. We've got various avenues open to us."
Gilray added that if Stranger's Wrath makes it to Xbox 360, "it'll be about a month after" the PlayStation 3 version is released.
