Long ago there were rumours about what we could expect from the next Resident Evil installment. After the certain degree of abrupt finality in Resident Evil 5 it was hard to guess where they'd go next.

Thanks to the latest issue of the Official Xbox Magazine we might have just found out where they are taking it next. If the information is accurate then the rumours last year about a squad-based shooter set in Raccoon City will soon be reality. The magazine reveals it as Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. The title will be a squad-based shooter developed by the team at Slant Six (who created some SOCOM titles) and will most likely drag the franchise even further away from the traditional survival horror roots.

It will follow the roles of a team of Umbrella operatives who are dispatched into Raccoon City to cover up evidence of the virus outbreak in 1998. We are now awaiting confirmation from Capcom but if this information is accurate would you be excited for it?

If Capcom really want to keep the series going then they should take notes from Dead Space 2. My favourite action horror game, even like that bad boy more than RE4.

RE5 was fine but it's falling dangerously close to "generic shooter" territory. If they want a horror-themed action game that's fine but Resident Evil was a pioneer in survival horror, we have more than enough generic action games out there.
