PlayStation 3 owners looking forward to the HD ports of Team Ico's classics Ico and Shadow of the Colossus as well as the highly anticipated The Last Guardian will have to wait longer than initially thought, Sony announced today.
The Ico/Shadow of the Colossus Collection was due for release this spring followed by The Last Guardian in the fall, but director Fumito Ueda said in a statement today that the games simply require more time: "I announced at last year’s Tokyo Game Show that the release timing of The Last Guardian which is currently being developed would be holiday 2011. However, to provide more challenging and better quality of content to users and to fulfill First Party Studio’s obligations, I decided to postpone its release timing. All the members of my production team are working together at a fast pace to develop and release the game in First Party Studio quality. I sincerely apologize to all the customers who have been waiting for 'The Last Guardian' for so long, but I beg for your patience. I will also announce the new release timing at a later time.
It's already been nearly six years since Shadow of the Colossus was released on PlayStation 2, what's a little bit longer? If it turns out as good as their last two games, I'm sure fans won't mind. Expect more details, and hopefully a new release date, at E3 in June.
