[GC'11, PC, PS3, X360] Jets tear up the skies in Battlefield 3's 'Caspian Border'

[GC'11, PC, PS3, X360] Jets tear up the skies in Battlefield 3's 'Caspian Border'
Jets. JETS. Check out the debut jet gameplay for this October's Battlefield 3. The gameplay trailer takes place on the 'Caspian Border' map in an intense 64 player Conquest match full of vehicle combat.
Honestly, I think I could deal with Origin for that action.

But god damn, that is some pretty gameplay there.

If BF3 outclasses MW3 by enough, people will take notice. It won't outsell MW3 but I could see it doing 10 million+ if it is as good as it looks and it will only grow from there. [Image: default.png]

New European Wii model loses GameCube compatibility

by on Aug 17th 2011 9:45AM

It's officially a trend. One day after Sony introduced a cheaper, less functional PSP for Europe, Nintendo has announced a new "value Wii" for the region, though no price was given. The new Wii, according to Nintendo UK, is designed to sit horizontally instead of vertically (although the original Wii can technically do both, so we aren't sure what the distinction is). The other major alteration is the loss of GameCube backward compatibility -- both games and accessories.

This new model (we've dubbed it the "Wii Jr.") will be released sometime before Christmas, in a bundle with a Wii Remote Plus, Nunchuk, Wii Party and Wii Sports. Other bundles will also be forthcoming. Eurogamer posted the above picture, and also got word from Nintendo that the company will "focus on the new Wii Bundle/s going forward," suggesting it won't coexist with the current model. Bye, GameCube!

Captain America injected with savings serum, $30 on Amazon

The CapCaptain America: Super Soldier, which isn't too bad as it turns out, has seen its price significantly reduced on Amazon. The Xbox 360 and PS3 version can be had for $30, and the Wii version for $25. Try not to get too immersed -- if you throw the disc at something, it won't come back. [PC, Mac] Amnesia: The Dark Descent scares the pants off of 400,000 people

[PC, Mac] Amnesia: The Dark Descent scares the pants off of 400,000 people
Last January it was confirmed that Amnesia: The Dark Descent has surpassed 200,000 sales. Developer Frictional Games were incredibly happy because it had surpassed their dream goal of 100,000 sales. If that is the case they they must be super excited now.

Thomas Grip, part of Frictional Games, revealed at GDC Europe that the survival-horror title has now surpassed 400,000 in sales. It deserves every one of those sales (and probably even more) because Frictional have crafted a brilliant horror title.

Are you one of those 400,000 souls brave enough to have your pants scared off?

[GC'11, PS3, Vita] The PS3 can't do cross-game chat due to RAM restrictions

[GC'11, PS3, Vita] The PS3 can't do cross-game chat due to RAM restrictions
[Image: game-news-image-2011-a53fa36c24d34fa31b4...40a8cb.gif]
It has been one of the most highly requested features for Sony's PlayStation 3, and now we have learned (five years down the track) that the PlayStation 3 will never be able to do cross-game chat because of memory restrictions. To find out why, continue reading.

According to Sony Worldwide Studios president, Shuhei Yoshida, the reason is because the PS3's RAM is consumed entirely by the game that it is running, which is why the feature will not be able to be retroactively added in.

"Once a game gets RAM we never give it back," he said. "It's not possible to retrofit something like that after the fact."

This news surfaces after it was revealed that the PlayStation Vita would have more RAM than the PlayStation 3. The Vita will have 512MB of RAM and 128MB of V-RAM compared to the PlayStation 3's 256MB of RAM and 256MB of V-RAM. What those numbers mean is that the Vita would have enough spare RAM to run something like cross-chat in the background whilst still playing a game.

"The game has to use its own memory to do [in-game voice chat]. There's always voice chat in the game. But it's a part of a game feature. It's not a part of an OS feature. That's the reason in terms of the ability to have voice chat across different games."

So there you have it, cross-game chat will never be coming to Sony's home console this generation. It also appears that the chat feature will be better on the Vita, so I guess the best we can all do is look forward to the PlayStation 4.

Rumor: Ubisoft video hinted at tablet peripheral, Project InTouch

by on Aug 20th 2011 9:30PM

Ubisoft may be looking to re-enter the peripheral market with a tablet called Project InTouch, as demonstrated by an internal marketing video found by superannuation. The video was hastily removed from Vimeo, leaving behind the message that Ubisoft claimed infringement on something called "UBISOFT TABLET," which doesn't do much to dispel the tablet gossip.

Screenshots from the video lend even more credence to the rumor, showing a family happily playing uDraw-WiiU-esque games from a chunky green and white tablet. See the shots below and decide for yourself if this is a new peripheral venture from Ubisoft, or a red herring for its unannounced game, Family Slaughterhouse Funtime.
