Nintendo Download: November 28, 2013

Happy Thanksgiving, all you Nintendo fans! What’s that? Oh yes, it is also Nintendo Download day! So, as you are filling your stomachs with lots of turkey, stuffing, and pumpkin pie, here are a few games that will release today and this upcoming week. Perhaps you could even play some with your family today.

The unfortunate news is that there is only one Wii U game on the list this week. That one is Contra III: The Alien Wars. However, the Nintendo 3DS eShop list is much more packed. First up is the addition of SEGA 3D Classics, which includes eight classics remade in 3D. This week, we get two of them in 3D Space Harrier and 3D Super Hang-On. The Nintendo 3DS Guide: Louvre also hits the eShop, along with Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom, Race to the Line, and Young Justice: Legacy. Another item hitting the 3DS eShop is the Pokémon: BW Rival Destinies animated series. In fact, ten episodes are available now, and five more will launch every week until December 26. Nintendo did not leave out DSi owners, though, because Heathcliff: Spot On hits the DSi Shop and 3DS eShop.

There are also several Mario games on both eShops that are on sale this week. Grab Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, and Super Mario World for Wii U, as well as Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move, and Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins for Nintendo 3DS. All are 30% off until next Thursday, December 6. Also, Shin Megami Tensei IV is $20 off on the 3DS eShop until December 2.

Disney Infinity to add Wreck-It Ralph, Tangled, Frozen characters

'Tis the season for Disney Infinity magic! With Christmas just weeks away, Disney Interactive is announcing its holiday line-up of Disney Infinity figures and Power Discs.

Among the exciting new character additions to the game's signature Toy Box mode are Rapunzel (from "Tangled"), Wreck-It Ralph and Vanellope (from "Wreck-It Ralph") and Anna and Elsa (from the upcoming movie "Frozen") - all available in the UK from Friday, 29th November.

Key highlights of new characters include:

* Rapunzel: With her beautiful long locks, fierce determination and signature frying pan, "Tangled's" Rapunzel is a powerful Princess, whose unique style of combat will add exciting new creative play options to the Toy Box.

* Wreck-It Ralph: The classic 8-bit character is making an appearance in a new video game! Ralph uses his wrecking abilities and 8-bit Cherry Bombs to defeat enemies in Toy Box.

* Vanellope: The Sugar Rush racer brings her amazing Glitch ability that will allow her to teleport short distances and glitch out characters that come in contact with her in Toy Box.

* Frozen Toy Box Pack: Featuring Anna, Elsa and two hexagonal power discs, these characters deliver girl power to the Toy Box in a big way. Anna will use her grappling hook to get to hard-to-reach places and use her shovel to defeat enemies. Elsa will utilize her magical ice abilities, such as using the Freeze Ball to stop opponents in their tracks.

In addition, from today 20 new Power Discs are available in the UK, including three new "rare" versions featuring the "Electric Mayhem Bus" from the world of The Muppets, the "Condor Wing Glider" and Captain Hook's ship from the classic Disney Parks ride. Circular Power Discs give characters special power-ups that can be used in both Play Sets and Toy Box. Hexagonal Power Discs unlock special gadgets, vehicles and themes in the Toy Box.

The full list of new Power Discs includes:

Corrupted Super Mario 64 shows the real mushroom kingdom

Sometimes cartridges go bad. We can't explain what is going on in this footage of a corrupted Super Mario 64, presented by the same individual who posted that creepy Sesame Street footage earlier this year, but at least we know to avoid Princess Peach when she's baking a cake. Peach smash!

Miiverse Updated in Preparation for Launch on 3DS

Miiverse received yet another update today. All in all, it did not change much. The biggest change included a redesign of the communities page. Now, all communities are shown in one list, but you can filter them using a menu. Also, you can no longer view the number of “yeahs” you have received on your profile. Instead, you will see the ones you have given. Another feature changes the default display of a community to now show “player posts” instead of recent posts. One more we noticed was that game communities have the console listed under the title of the game. All of this is in preparation for the launch of Miiverse on 3DS, which is supposed to happen in December 2013.

Below is a message explaining the update, straight from Miiverse Tom, himself:

Hi everyone, it’s Tom at Nintendo.

You may have already found out that we made a change to Miiverse today.

We’re getting ready for the Nintendo 3DS version of Miiverse coming in December, and this update prepares Miiverse so we can accommodate all the new 3DS users who will be joining us once the service begins. To prepare for the large number of new users that we’re anticipating, we worked on cleaning up a lot of things behind the doors, and made some changes on how Miiverse works on the outside. When the 3DS version service begins, you’ll notice newly created communities for 3DS games will show up right by the existing communities on Wii U.

Here are the key changes that were made to both Wii U and web versions with today’s update:

1. We put a fresh coat of paint on the community list screen. It now displays more communities, and on the Wii U version there’s a filter button that shows the communities by their categories like before. You can also press the “Favorite Communities” button on the top right of the screen to show a list of communities that you marked as your favorites.

2. Instead of showing the total number of Yeahs you received, the profile screen now show the total number of Yeahs you gave to others. Like with the spirit of Thanksgiving, we made this change so everyone can focus on giving Yeahs to posts and users they like and respect. The number of Yeahs will still be displayed on each individual posts, so good posts and drawings will still get a lot of Yeahs. Beginning this Thanksgiving and beyond the holidays, I hope people can give Yeahs and be thankful to others.

3. We also changed the default display setting when you enter a community. It now displays posts made by people who played the game first. You can always press the “All Posts” button to display posts from everyone.

The announcement that Miiverse will be coming to Nintendo 3DS was made in the Nintendo Direct last month, and everyone at Nintendo are excited and looking forward to the change. If you already have a Nintendo Network ID, you can use that to log right in on your 3DS. Please visit the official Nintendo website to find out more.
