Rhythm Heaven Fever spreads to North America in February

Open the latest issue of Nintendo Power and you'll find yourself looking at four pages of heaven. Rhythm Heaven, specifically. The magazine drops the news we've been waiting for: an official release window for the Wii iteration of Nintendo and Tsunku's musical minigame series, titled Rhythm Heaven Fever. It's set for February 2012.

The article introduces several of the vibrantly cartoonish, inexplicable activities in which you'll engage, including seesaw inspection, tambourine practice with a monkey instructor, and protecting your date from an onslaught of soccer balls.

Game Informer - 6.75/10 - "The last half of the game serves only to remind you of how far the series has fallen from its original form. I felt smothered by Sonic Team’s insistence on shoehorning recent Sonic games, no matter how awful, into the 20-year timeline. Why would Sega pass up full level tributes to Sonic 3 or Sonic CD in favor of a remixed version of a stage from Sonic Colors, which released only a year ago? At the end of the game, old and new Sonic part ways. As they do, modern Sonic says to his retro doppelganger, 'Hey Sonic, enjoy your future, it’s going to be great!' If he only knew."

1UP - B - "There's a great deal of game here, which speaks to just how smart Sega is in iterating on a small collection of stages, rather than going the usual route of wasting valuable HD assets on a series of sprawling (and typically unplayable) levels for Sonic to get lost in. If the inevitable sequel to Generations offers the same refinements Sonic 2 brought to the original Sonic the Hedgehog, Sega's blue rodent might just completely emerge from the pit of embarrassment he slowly dug for himself throughout the '00s. "

Destructoid - 8/10 - "While it's not quite the stunning triumph that many had hoped for, Sonic Generations is a truly great game that provides some of the best Sonic action ever seen and pays fitting tribute to Sonic the Hedgehog -- highlighting both his successes and his failures. If Sonic Team can keep this up, then the blue blur will most definitely be back on top."

CVG - 7.5/10 - "With other fan appeal and Chaos Emeralds coming from showdowns with Sonic's rivals - Shadow, Silver, and Metal - and familiar bosses like the Death Egg Robot and the rather-too-similar Perfect Chaos - Generations is a great game for pressing out the fluids from a hyperactive nostalgia gland. Sonic Generations hits its target well - with the genuinely bruising qualification that it can frequently be difficult to look at."

IGN - 8.5/10 - "It feels refreshing to be able to say that Sonic is good again. His upward trajectory over the last year continues and he’s only gaining momentum. Sonic Generations is largely a game for the most hardcore of Sonic fans, but for the millions who have fond memories of narrowly dodging spikes, grinding on rails, or even that time he was a pinball, Sonic Generations is a game made for you."

Nintendo to Add Sakura Samurai, Metroid II, & Pushmo to 3DS eShop

NINTENDO ADDS SAKURA SAMURAI: ART OF THE SWORD TO AN IMPRESSIVE DOWNLOADABLE LINEUP

A new game is headed to the Nintendo 3DS™ system, and it won’t be available in stores. Sakura Samurai: Art of the Sword™ lets players travel to ancient Japan and guide a young warrior as he battles waves of enemy soldiers to save a princess. He must identify the enemy’s attack move, dodge it by a hair and counter-attack with his own mystical Sakura Sword to win the battle. The game launches in January.

Sakura Samurai: Art of the Sword is just one of many high-quality, Nintendo-published downloadable games that can be found in the Nintendo eShop.

On Nov. 24, Nintendo will release the original 2D version of Metroid™ II: Return of Samus™. This Game Boy™ classic has intergalactic bounty hunter Samus™ Aran battling Space Pirates as she seeks to destroy Metroids on SR388. The game lays the foundation for the smash hit Super Metroid™.

In December, Pushmo lets players try to push, pull and climb their way to the top to solve more than 200 3D puzzles. Play as Mallo, the hero of the game, who is small in size but has a big heart and big muscles to match. Players will use him to move the giant blocks that make up the Pushmo puzzles. Solving the puzzles will free the kids who were accidently trapped inside them. There is also a Pushmo puzzle creator so players can make their own puzzles and share them with their friends.

Players who can’t wait to get their hands on these games can check out some other downloadable games that are available right now in the Nintendo eShop, such as Freakyforms™: Your Creations, Alive! The game lets players create all kinds of wild creatures and bring them to life. No drawing skills are needed, so players of all ages can give it a try. Then they can customize the color and the look, and add eyes and a mouth before the creature comes to life and explores its world.

Also currently available is 3D Classics: Kirby’s Adventure™. The classic Kirby™ game has been re-mastered in 3D. Players explore the world of Dream Land and help Kirby cross land, sea and sky in his quest to restore the Star Rod.

1UP - A- - "I'm sure someone out there will complain that Origins is overpriced, since it's a $60 retail title at launch compared to the $10-20 downloadable games that 2D platformers usually come in these days, but it's easy to see higher production values here. We don't get many big ambitious 2D platformers these days, and above all else, I'm happy to see Ubisoft didn't waste the opportunity."

GameTrailers - 8.5/10 - "With platformers enjoying a big resurgence in the last few years, it makes sense that Rayman: Origins has an anachronistic feel. Challenging levels, mosquito breaks, amusing multiplayer, and a hard-as-nails reward for perfectionists assures its place in the platformer pantheon. It just lacks a little of the sparkle that could've helped battle the fatigue of coaxing out every last lum."

Game Informer - 8.5/10 - "If you only know about Rayman from his affiliation with the now-ubiquitous Rabbids, that probably wasn’t the best introduction. Rayman Origins is the proper way to catch up with the character, who finally has a game that puts him squarely in the majors."

IGN - 9.5/10 - "In a blockbuster holiday season of M-rated war games, it’s refreshing to see something so different and special as Rayman Origins. It’s downright gorgeous and a total blast to play alone or with friends.
