Are you a fan of Capcom's Darkstalkers franchise? Did you purchase Darkstalkers Resurrection? If not, then you might want to re-consider your decision, because Capcom seems ready to put the series back on hiatus.

Siliconera is reporting that Capcom's disappointment over the sales of Resurrection has helped them with the decision. "Darkstalkers Resurrection did nto perform as well as would have liked to perform. You never know what the future may hold, but Street Fighter is definitely not dead," Matt Dahlgren, fighting game manager at Capcom, told Siliconera.

That certainly doesn't bode well, but when Siliconera pushed Dahlgren concerning rumours about a new Darkstalkers game running on the Street Fighter engine he didn't seem optimistic.

"There is nothing Darkstalkers on the immediate horizon for sure," said Dahlgren.

What do you think? Is it fair that Capcom has decided to step back from the Darkstalkers franchise after a re-release of some old games performed poorly? Or should they have gambled an actual new game and suffered the game's losses for the sake of the fans?

Capcom is busy working on Ultra Street Fighter IV and will be releasing it both physically and digitally sometime in 2014.
