PRESS RELEASE

Nintendo News: Coming Soon to the Nintendo eShop: Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo and the Rest of the Louvre

REDMOND, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Nintendo has come up with some Nintendo 3DS software artistic enough to make even a 16th-century icon smile. For more than a year, visitors to the world-famous Louvre museum in Paris have been able to rent Nintendo 3DS systems loaded with software that serves as an interactive museum guide. Now Nintendo is making this software available to Nintendo 3DS owners everywhere. Owners with a broadband Internet connection can visit the Nintendo eShop beginning Dec. 2 and download the Nintendo 3DS Guide: Louvre software for $19.99.

Nintendo announced the availability of the software during a Nintendo Direct announcement today. To view the full Nintendo Direct video, visit http://www.nintendo.com/nintendo-direct.

The software contains more than 600 images of artwork from the famed French museum, in addition to more than 400 3D photos of the museum’s interior and nearly 30 hours of audio commentary. Users can zoom in and view select paintings up close, or take a three-dimensional look at famous sculptures like the Venus de Milo.

The software available in the Nintendo eShop has features not found in the Louvre version, including an artwork slide show and a mode that lets users select and admire particular works of art while the audio commentary plays. Nintendo 3DS Guide: Louvre will also receive updates when a new display is added, in order to stay on top of all the latest exhibitions in the actual Louvre. To access the updated content, users just connect to the Internet and select “Update Guide.”

A 3D video featuring the famed Venus de Milo sculpture can be viewed from the Nintendo eShop starting today, giving a taste of what Nintendo 3DS Guide: Louvre has to offer. The software is a great way to take a virtual tour of one of the world’s most renowned museums, or it can be used as a planning tool, and during visits to the museum, for people who are inspired to take a trip to Paris to see the real thing.

[3DS] The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds coming this November

[3DS] The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds coming this November
If you weren't satisfied with getting a HD version of Wind Waker for the Wii U then you'll be happy to hear that Nintendo has locked A Link Between Worlds in for a November launch.

During the Nintendo Direct stream they also showcase some footage from the Other World whilst also revealing Link's method for travelling between realms. The key seems to be psychedelic cracks in the wall that he can enter by becoming a drawing and moving along walls.

It is unknown if this is the only method that players will use to access the Other World.

It is also worth noting that Iwata could be hinting at a sort of anti-Triforce that exists in this other world. So, it'll be interesting to see how that ends up playing out.

I spent some time with The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds during PAX Australia and the game was a heap of fun! Of course, it is hard to judge the final product based on the brief demo areas I tried, but moving around the overworld and exploring the dungeon with Link's new ability certainly opened up some interesting doors that I can't wait to see Nintendo explore. Hopefully they are able to take full advantage of his new skill to create some unique puzzles.

[Wii U] Rayman Legends coming to Wii U this month with Mario & Luigi costumes

[Wii U] Rayman Legends coming to Wii U this month with Mario & Luigi costumes
[Image: game-news-image-2013-07f5cccc05d8d23fa57...5e945c.jpg]
Rayman Legends was originally intended to hit the Wii U earlier this year, that was before Ubisoft decided to take the game to multiple platforms. As a result of this decision Wii U owners were forced to wait in order for Ubisoft to uphold their policy of launch multiplatform games within the same release window.

During the stream Nintendo confirmed that Rayman Legends will be available for Wii U in Europe on August 30th and in North America on September 3rd.

Ubisoft made the most of the extra development time to cram extra content into the game, this extra content includes a number of stages from the previous game, Rayman Origins, in the Wii U sequel. Additionally, Nintendo fans will have access to Mario and Luigi costumes for Rayman and Globox.

Video uploaded by the good folk over at GameXplain.

Will you be picking up Rayman Legends for Wii U?

[3DS] Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney coming to the West in 2014!

[3DS] Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney coming to the West in 2014!
So, did you think that Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney wouldn't make its way over to our shores? If so... [Image: game-news-image-2013-c5f26f2b06cbe80a141...a12d17.jpg]
That's right, Satoru Shibata had the good news for 3DS owners and adopted the appropriate style to deliver it as seen in the image above.

Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney will arrive sometime in early 2014 for both North America and Europe, the game has been heavily requested for localisation ever since its release in Japan in 2012.

Mixing puzzles with court trials the game is certain to be worth checking out, especially considering the legacy that both Layton and Wright now have on Nintendo handhelds.

[Multi] DICE confirms focus on Battlefield 4; no more Bad Company games coming yet

[Multi] DICE confirms focus on Battlefield 4; no more Bad Company games coming yet
[Image: game-news-image-2013-7b78f840e56ad93e155...b94848.jpg]
I actually enjoyed chunks of Bad Company 2, which is why I actually looked forward to the potential of seeing a third game in the spin-off series now that Battlefield 3 was out of the way. However, it appears that isn't happening anytime soon.

Eurogamer is reporting that a recent tweet from the official Battlefield account has confirmed that the team is focused on Battlefield 4 and the subsequent DLC at the moment.

"We love the Bad Company series, but don't have it in active development," claims the account. "Battlefield 4 is our main focus for the year."

This makes sense, Battlefield 4 is coming this October for PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. DICE simply don't have time for a new Bad Company game at the moment and considering how severely Battlefield 3's sales eclipsed those amassed by Bad Company 2 its no surprise.

That doesn't stop me from feeling a little bit disappointed. Oh well, let's see if EA and DICE can win me over for another shooter, although I feel as though I'm probably going to skip on them for now and pick up a premium release with the DLC (that's right, EA, I'm still bitter about Battlefield 3's 'Premium Edition').

Do you want a Bad Company 3?

Is an Eternal Darkness Sequel Really Coming?

UPDATE (5/6/13): More information posted in a new post!

shadow-of-the-eternals_wide-image-facebook

Many people agree that one of the best games on the Nintendo GameCube was “Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem.” The game was a third-person horror adventure that also incorporated puzzle elements. The horror genre was shocked by another feature not really seen in a game since Eternal Darkness. Every character had a “sanity meter,” so in addition to watching out for your physical health, you also had to watch your mental health. If it started dropping, you began hallucinating. One of the most frustrating, yet cool, examples was when the game seem to freeze on you, stating that the entire save file had been deleted.

Fans have been clamoring for a sequel for years. Today, IGN posted a trailer for “Shadow of the Eternals,” an upcoming game that is in development. What is so special about this title? It is by the same people who brought us Eternal Darkness. This sequel, or spiritual successor, to the original has very little details right now. However, there is a website, Facebook page, Twitter profile, and YouTube channel. The website says to expect information about their “crowdfunding campaign” at 12:00 PM Eastern on May 13. Due to the lack of available information, one can only speculate if this game will hit a Nintendo console. Until then, be sure to like them, follow them, and send them a note sharing how much you would appreciate Shadow of the Eternals to be available on Wii U.

Until then, enjoy the teaser trailer below…

UPDATE (2:45 PM Eastern 5/3/2013): According to NeoGaf, there is a cached version of the Precurser Games’ (creators of “Shadow of the Eternals”) website that contained the following information. Please note this is not confirmed by Precurser Games, so until Sunday/Monday, take this with a grain of salt.

When Detective Paul Becker is called to one of the bloodiest gang massacres in Louisiana state history, only two survivors remain from a brutal conflict between two rival cults. As Becker begins his interrogations of the suspects, their combined recollections will uncover the truth about the ‘Ancients’.

Shadow of the Ancients is a sequel to the critically acclaimed Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Reqiuem. Featuring an ensemble cast of heroes and villains, the game will span over 2500 years of history throughout Egypt, England, Hungary, and the United States. Players will question the perception of reality as they try to balance the mechanics of combat, magick, and sanity events to progress through the adventure.

Shadow of the Ancients will take players on a memorable journey throughout time; weaving historical fact with disturbing fiction to create an experience unlike any other.

———–

How long is each episode?
Each episode will be approximately 2-4 hours of gameplay.

When do you plan to release?
Q3 2014.

What platforms will Shadow of the Ancients be on?
We will be focusing on the PC and Wii U platforms. Other platforms may be added in the future.

Why no Kickstarter Campaign?
We would love to do a Kickstarter, but currently Kickstarter is only open to companies that are in the US or UK. We hope that we can work with Kickstarter in the future to make this option a reality.

However, by integrating the community into the development of the game, we can centralize our site with our crowdfunding system to manage this properly. Upon pledging on our site, you will be granted a Forum Ribbon to our Official Development Forums, where you can share your ideas and feedback about the creation of the game. It does not matter whether you sign up for the forums before, or after pledging – our database will recognize you.

———–

Shadow of the Ancients will be an episodic series, and to complete the first episode and continue production on future episodes, we need approximately 1.1 million dollars. Any money raised beyond this will contribute to future episodes, additional characters, in-game perks, and additional platforms. The more money that we raise, the more we will deliver based on what our fans want.

———–

BOUND SUPPORTER LE ($50) includes the following: Everything from Sane Supporter; Shadow of the Ancients Season 1 (Episode 1-12, two free episodes); Access to ‘Edward’s Secret Study’.

Receive the entire first season of Shadow of the Ancients (twelve episodes). Each episode features at least one playable character, access to a variety of new play mechanics, historically accurate weapons, locations and new magick.

PSA: Amazon video game Gold Box Event coming Tuesday

by Jordan Mallory Writer RSS on Feb 16th 2013 4:30PM

PSA Amazon video game Gold Box Event coming TuesdayLike a stealthy jungle cat patiently waiting for its tired, limping prey to drop its guard, so too does Amazon's devious sales engine stalk the emaciated husk of our post-December wallet. Its latest attempt at snaring our monetary entrails, an all-games Gold Box Event, will begin at 3 a.m. Eastern time on the morning of Tuesday, February 19.

We won't know exactly what said Gold Box Event's Lightning Deals or Deal of the Day will consist of until Tuesday. In the meantime, Amazon has also marked down a sizable number of games and accessories as part of its Winter Deals sale, which includes Halo 4 and a year of Xbox Live Gold for about $40 each.

[Wii U] Nintendo TVii is coming to Europe in 2013 claims Nintendo
[Image: game-news-image-2012-0632894c5bd690afb11...83b9a0.jpg]
Nintendo TVii is due to launch for the Wii U in December for American Wii U owners, but up to this point we've not known much about its release in Europe.

Well, thankfully a very blunt (and brief) statement from Nintendo has revealed that the service will be making the jump to Europe sometime in 2013.

More details will be available in "due course" so you'll have to hang in there until we receive further news on TVii. But its a start, right?

Thanks for the heads up, VG247.

Mega Man 1-6 Coming to 3DS eShop

megaman3ds_announcementHey, all you Mega Man fans! Capcom Unity just announced something you might enjoy:

Japan and Europe have had their fun, now it’s time for the North American eShop to get in on the action. Each of the classic NES Mega Man titles (that’s 1~6) will come to said eShop beginning with the original Mega Man on December 27 – that’s 10 days from now!

This will be followed by Mega Man 2 on February 7, with the rest of the games coming in regular intervals throughout 2013. You’ll soon have the whole collection on one handheld!

Will you be downloading the Mega Man 1-6 collection to your Nintendo 3DS? They are sure to keep you busy! The good thing is, similar to the Wii Virtual Console, there will probably be save-states, so it might make Mega Man just a tiny bit easier. Wait, who am I kidding? They will still be hard — and that is a good thing!

Nintendo Power coming to an end

by Writer RSS on Aug 21st 2012 2:00PM

Nintendo Power coming to an endNintendo has chosen not to renew its licensing agreement with Future Publishing (the company that currently produces Nintendo Power) and has no intentions to take over the publication itself, according to insider sources speaking to Ars Technica. A now-deleted tweet from NP staff suggested this was accurate.
Reportedly "difficult to work with," Nintendo is said to have taken no interest in working with Future on expanded online initiatives to strengthen the Nintendo Power brand. Editors and staff members were told that the magazine would be shut down sometime last week and have since begun transitioning to other Future publications, according to Ars Technica's source.

We've reached out to Future Publishing and Nintendo for comment. Originally launching in 1988, Nintendo Power was run in-house by Nintendo until the property was licensed to Future in 2007.

Epic Mickey 2 also coming to PC and Mac on Nov. 18

by Writer RSS on Jul 13th 2012 6:25PM

The plan is for Disney's Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two to launch on Xbox 360, PS3 with Move, Wii, PC and Mac on November 18, Junction Point founder Warren Spector said today at San Diego Comic-Con. The launch date was previously confirmed for consoles alone, including the 3DS tie-in title, Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Illusion, which is also slated to drop on November 18.

The Power of Illusion will pay homage to forgotten and rejected gaming features, drawing inspiration from 16-bit graphics and the 1990 Sega game, Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse.

Spector said it was "totally dumb" that he had none of the characters speak in the first Epic Mickey, and he's rectifying that by having characters not only talk, but sing in Epic Mickey 2. Actor Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride, Robin Hood: Men in Tights) voices Gus, while Frank Welker (Nibbler in Futurama, at least one character in every cartoon you ever loved) plays Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.

Epic Mickey 2 is mature on a level comparable to one of Spector's earlier titles, Deus Ex, backed up by the fact that 54 percent of Epic Mickey players were 18 or older, he said.

A second iteration of the Epic Mickey digital graphic novel series, penned by comic veteran Peter David (The Incredible Hulk, Spider-Man 2099), is due out this fall.

Wreck-It Ralph game about the movie about games coming only to Nintendo systems

by Writer RSS on Jun 25th 2012 4:00PM

Wreck It Ralph games only for Nintendo systemsWreck-It Ralph, an animated film coming November 2 from Disney, features classic characters sure to induce nostalgia in bomb-like proportions for its 20-55 demographic -- which is why it's strange that the game based on the movie based on video games will come only to Nintendo's Wii, 3DS and DS.

With the film, Disney is focused on introducing a younger audience to arcade-style side-scrollers, and it seems Activision is keeping that trend with a launch on the market's most "family-friendly" set of platforms.

"Wreck-It Ralph, as a brand entity, is perfectly suited for video game stardom," Activision Executive Vice President David Oxford says. "With the fantastic characters and creative atmosphere envisioned by Walt Disney Animation Studios, we know fans are going to love seeing their newfound favorite characters embark on an all-new side-scrolling adventure."

The game will have players switch between Ralph and Fix-It Felix to defeat the Cy-Bugs, with a story campaign and two-player co-op for the Wii.

[Wii] New Play Control: Pikmin 2 Finally Coming to North America
[Image: game-news-image-2012-30f8cab62c9829c0bb5...2a4bd1.jpg]
As Nintendo prepares for its big Pikmin 3 reveal at E3, North American gamers will have the opportunity to sharpen their Pikmin skills at the same time with New Play Control: Pikmin 2, which will finally be making its way to across the pond(s) this June, according to an article spotted in a new issue of Nintendo Power. The Wii remake of the popular 2004 GameCube game, complete with widescreen support and new controls fitted to the Wii remote controller, has been available in Japan, Europe, and Australia since 2009, but for some reason was not released in North America until now.

As far as we can tell, the North American version of the game should be pretty much identical to other versions. New Play Control: Pikmin (the first game) has been available in all territories since 2009.
