[PC, Wii U] Shadow of the Eternals to re-launch crowdfunding effort

[PC, Wii U] Shadow of the Eternals to re-launch crowdfunding effort
[Image: game-news-image-2013-2620730dbb26bde34fa...2589c4.jpg]
You probably won't ever find a failed crowdfunding project get as much press coverage as Precursor Games' Shadow of the Eternals, but we'll chalk that up to its association as the "spiritual successor" to the critically-acclaimed Eternal Darkness. With less than $300,000 raised of the $1.5 million goal set by the developer to make the project a reality, Precursor announced today that the current crowdfunding campaign for the game will be halted on June 6th, to be re-launched in "just a few short weeks." Those who have already contributed their money on the game's official website will receive a refund via PayPal, while pledges on Kickstarter will not be charged.

"Since we announced this Kickstarter campaign we have seen more support from our community than we had ever hoped for," reads a statement on the game's website. "Along with this support has come a host of a new exciting opportunities that will make the game better than we envisioned. As a result, we have chosen to temporarily take down the Shadow of the Eternals crowdfunding campaigns on both Kickstarter and our own website on Thursday, June 6."

"This doesn’t mean we are going away — far from it. We’ll be re-launching the Kickstarter in just a few short weeks with a reveal of these exciting new developments."

Clearly the game was never going to reach its goal, so what could these "exciting new developments" be? A restructuring to a smaller campaign goal? Did the game find support from a publisher? We shall find out in a few weeks time, but it at least sounds more promising now than it has at any time during the last few weeks of the campaign.

[PS3, X360] Looks like Snow is set to return in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII

[PS3, X360] Looks like Snow is set to return in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII
I didn't enjoy Final Fantasy XIII and although Final Fantasy XIII-2 improved a few notable errors it still left me wanting more. Sadly, Square Enix's announcement that we'd be getting another Final Fantasy XIII game was not in alignment with my desire (I just want Final Fantasy Versus XIII, guys).

Today it's been uncovered by Siliconera (via Ruliweb) that Snow will return in the newest game thanks to a scan from thenext issue of Jump. It probably shouldn't surprise anyone, he was still present in the previous game. The main difference now is his darker outfit, certainly a contrast to his name.

[Image: game-news-image-2013-08ac530afdee6a0cef4...42450b.jpg]
Apparently he still regrets not being able to save Serah as well.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is expected to release later this year for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Okay, it's probably not that memorable but that headline is definitely forgettable. Capcom's intriguing action game, Remember Me, is available today for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Here's the launch trailer; just in case you forgot.

Just don't forget to remember that it isn't connected to that 2010 Robert Pattinson film that goes by the same name.

Square Enix are on somewhat of a roll at the moment, especially with Deus Ex: The Fall slated to be revealed soon, as far as announcements go. The latest in their line-up relates to a tweet that we reported on.

The tweet hinted that Square Enix would do something for Murdered: Soul Suspect on Tuesday; it turns out that 'something' would be releasing the game's official announcement trailer. Catch it below and start figuring out if you're game to take on this case.

[E3'13, PC, PS3, X360] Dark Souls II March 2014 release window outed by E3 banner

[E3'13, PC, PS3, X360] Dark Souls II March 2014 release window outed by E3 banner
I've got this strange feeling that Dark Souls II will be released at some point in March 2014. What gives me that idea? Well, this giant banner spotted by a NeoGAF user definitely has something to do with it. [Image: game-news-image-2013-f6bcb2dee761d10f3a9...a55691.jpg]
A number of GAF users are expressing interest in this game receiving the cross-generation treatment; but I'm not so sure that it'll happen. March 2014 is definitely late to the party for current generation hardware but both Microsoft and Sony seem determined to keep selling their current hardware alongside the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

What do you guys think? Too late or will the Dark Souls brand carry it? Personally, I'm still cautiously excited. Both Demon's Souls and Dark Souls are easily on my shortlist of favourite games that this generation has offered me, but I find myself worried about changes that could be made.

The reveal on IGN awhile ago soothed some of my concerns, but they are still bubbling under the surface.

Who am I kidding, this is a new Souls game. I'm on board!

Praise the sun!

Thanks VG247.

Pachter: PS4, Xbox One under $400; current-gen price drops this year

by David Hinkle Writer RSS on Jun 3rd 2013 2:00PM

Pachter predicts PS4 and Xbox One pricing, currentgen price dropsWedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter is predicting a sub-$400 pricing scheme for the PS4 and Xbox One – $349.99 for the PS4 and $399.99 for Xbox One. This comes from the investment firm's annual E3 preview report, which unsurprisingly calls out the next generation consoles as the main focus of this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles.

Pachter says the Xbox One pricing "makes sense given that the Xbox 360 Pro debuted at that price point in November 2005," though he stresses that this is without any type of subscription or subsidies program - like a cable television provider. As for PS4, Pachter asserts it'll make its debut at a lower price point than the PS3 as that $599 debut "negatively impacted its long-term popularity."

"We also expect the hardware manufacturers to announce price cuts," Pachter writes in the report (pdf link). He predicts both the PS3 and Xbox 360 will be reduced by at least $50 in the run-up to the holidays, while he says the Wii will be knocked down to $99 - maybe we'll get our own Wii Mini? Pachter also says Nintendo may try to increase Wii U sales through a price cut or "a bundle that includes some of its more popular software." Finally, he anticipates a PS Vita price drop, too.

[E3'13, PS3, X360] Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII gets a trailer, release date
Square Enix recently confirmed their E3 lineup, which included Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, in a press release. To accompany the announcement there were also a couple of videos, one being the game's E3 trailer and the other taking us behind-the-scenes on the creation of "The Savior".

Hit play on both of them to check them out.

So, it looks like everyone's favourite time traveler is back but this time he appears to the standing against Lightning; I'm sure that'll have some consequences.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is expected to release next February for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

[Image: game-news-image-2013-53ce0c49e8339782027...0f0d08.jpg]
Kojima (and Konami) are building steady hype for Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain at E3 this year, it stared with teases for the announcement of Snake's new voice actor during Konami's pre-E3 stream and was followed by Kojima teasing a new trailer, but now we've got a new slice of information to throw into the mix.

Firstly Konami released this brief trailer to generate pre-E3 hype concerning the forthcoming announcement:

OPM picked up on an incredibly interesting tweet from David Hayter, the former voice actor who played the role of Snake.

"I'm so excited for E3! I just hope I don't lose my voice," Hayer tweeted; he even included a winking smiley emoticon to further convey his cheekiness.

So, now we play the guessing game: is Kojima just trolling the Metal Gear Solid fan base or is Hayter legitimately just joking around about someone else taking on the role of Snake?

[PC, X1, X360] Game Informer app leaks Respawn's new game, Titanfall

[PC, X1, X360] Game Informer app leaks Respawn's new game, Titanfall
Respawn Entertainment, founded by staff who experienced a rough split with Activision, is working with EA to create a new game. That used to be all that we knew about the game until today. [Image: game-news-image-2013-10ff304c1798227ebc2...c1e874.jpg]
Game Informer's Google Play app has leaked the next issue a little bit early; so early in fact that it has revealed the mysterious new game that has been kept under wraps at Respawn. I genuinely feel sorry for those at Game Informer because this leak has certainly ruined their day.

Titanfall is the name of Respawn's first game and it appears to be in development for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox 360. You can get the full scoop over at NeoGAF in a thread where users have picked out a lot of information from the cover story. However, the key nuggets of information concern Respawn's plan to use Microsoft's Cloud for dedicated servers and physics/AI calculations. It will be a first-person shooter that also includes mech combat; these mechs are known as 'Titans' (hence the name) and will feel fast.

According to the piece the game is aiming for a Spring 2014 release. Respawn are working on the Xbox One and PC version; another studio is developing the Xbox 360 version.

Titanfall is exclusive because Respawn thought it'd be easier to start off their first game by focusing on a single platform; they are open to multiplatform after this is completed.

Keep your eyes out for this game during Microsoft's press conference; I bet they would have liked it to have stayed a secret as well.

[PC, PS3, X360] Review Roundup - Remember Me

[PC, PS3, X360] Review Roundup - Remember Me
[Image: game-news-image-2013-1625dfe0d07fcff09be...ec74e5.jpg]Game Informer - 7.75/10 - "The detailed world of Neo-Paris seems like it should be full of great stories, but the one Dontnod tells is uninspired. The environmental climbing sequences offer some simple fun, but the linear paths diminish any sense of exploration this otherwise would have achieved. Combat is filled with fresh ideas, but that creativity inhibits your capability in combat. Hopefully Dontnod doesn’t forget any of the lessons it learned this time around, because a sequel could be truly memorable."

Eurogamer - 7/10 - "Dontnod's first game is a classic genre piece, then - third-person traversal, fisticuffs and cut-scenes - ploughing the path made particularly famous in recent years by Naughty Dog, and for the most part it presents a world of rare coherency and surprising depth in a field better known for gunfights, tech demos and McGuffins. However, the developers never quite square the combat away with their beautiful world and interesting characters, which only rarely assume the kind of tactility for which their depth and consideration is crying out."

Destructoid - 6/10 - "One has to applaud Remember Me's desire to be something more than the average videogame, but desire is worthless on its own. If it had spent more time actually being unique and interesting, rather than working so hard merely to look it, and if it had genuinely created a deep and compelling combat system as opposed to taking an old one and dressing it up as something different, we could indeed have had a brilliant game on our hands. As it stands, Remember Me is a game that offers about six to eight hours of disposable entertainment that defines pretentiousness and will be forgotten in an inconsequential passage of time."

IGN - 5.9/10 - "Remember Me is a likeable, even admirable game that tells a deeply personal story in a thoughtfully-fashioned world populated by richly detailed character models. But ultimately, it failed to challenge or excite me as a game, as all of its best ideas are confined to its overarching fiction rather than its gameplay. I rarely felt like a Memory Hunter except for the few Memory Remix sections. I’d love to spend time in this world sampling its fiction and tasting some of its ideas, but unfortunately I can’t say the same for the game, which is very forgettable."

VideoGamer - 4/10 - "Remember Me is nothing more than an entirely forgettable tour de farce of archaic game design. Its horrific dialogue, sickening camera and regressive combat are major blips in a title that poses one major question: was this game worth releasing? ‘Dontnod’ is arguably the right answer."

Although their pre-E3 stream this Friday is set to focus on a number of projects, including Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, that hasn't stopped Konami from confirming that the 2010 original for release on PC this August through retail and Valve's Steam.

You can check out the game's first trailer below:

The so-called 'ultimate edition' will include the original Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and the two downloadable content packs, Reverie and Resurrection.

Will you be picking it up? I reviewed Castlevania: Lords of Shadow for PlayStation 3 and quite happily gave it a passing grade. It's definitely not setting new standards for Castlevania but manages to hold its own as an action game.

[PS4] Kaz Hirai claims the PS4 is a games console "first and foremost"
[Image: game-news-image-2013-edfc6127bc0457065ba...fc0121.jpg]
Microsoft has been combating controversy over the last week and a half and Kaz Hirai saw fit to take advantage of this fact during the D11 conference today. The Verge reports that Hirai told reporters at the conference that the PlayStation 4 will be focused on games first and foremost.

"The most important thing we need to do is agree and understand that the PS4 is a great video game console that appeals to video gamers," Hirai said. "If he we miss that part, I don't think we get the initial establishment of the console. That formula has worked for us with all our consoles, including the PS3."

"Providing other non-game content is an area we will reveal and talk about in the coming months, but it's first and foremost a video game console," Hirai continued.

It is a good time for Sony to focus on the PlayStation 4's focus on gaming; but I'm sure we all remember the amount of attention Sony gave to the PlayStation 3's multimedia functionality during its early years.

So, low blow or a smart time to capitalise on Microsoft's moment of weakness?

[PC] Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs delayed to end of summer
[Image: game-news-image-2013-5fc24f957d30bdf385d...f64c46.jpg]
Horror fans have been impatiently waiting for the sequel to the critically-acclaimed 2010 indie title Amnesia: The Dark Descent, however they will have to endure the agony a little bit longer. In a post on developer Frictional Games' forum, studio co-founder Jens Nilsson announced that Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs has once again been delayed, this time until "the summer comes to an end."

"We are working away as fast as we can, it has to take the time it takes," says Nilsson. "We have no rush and as a certain well known game developer said 'A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.'"

"We are optimizing, tweaking and in general putting the [Frictional Games] expertise to good use. [Co-developer thechineseroom] keeps putting in work as well. There are companies working on the translations (will launch with 9 languages in addition to original English). The porting guys are porting away. Deals are being made. Things are prepared for launching the game through more online stores than any other FG game before. In general occupied with all things related."

The game was initially expected to launch in time for Halloween 2012, but was delayed until Q2 2013. An exact release date hasn't been nailed down, but rest assured we'll keep you posted when we get one.

[Multi] DICE confirms focus on Battlefield 4; no more Bad Company games coming yet
[Image: game-news-image-2013-7b78f840e56ad93e155...b94848.jpg]
I actually enjoyed chunks of Bad Company 2, which is why I actually looked forward to the potential of seeing a third game in the spin-off series now that Battlefield 3 was out of the way. However, it appears that isn't happening anytime soon.

Eurogamer is reporting that a recent tweet from the official Battlefield account has confirmed that the team is focused on Battlefield 4 and the subsequent DLC at the moment.

"We love the Bad Company series, but don't have it in active development," claims the account. "Battlefield 4 is our main focus for the year."

This makes sense, Battlefield 4 is coming this October for PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. DICE simply don't have time for a new Bad Company game at the moment and considering how severely Battlefield 3's sales eclipsed those amassed by Bad Company 2 its no surprise.

That doesn't stop me from feeling a little bit disappointed. Oh well, let's see if EA and DICE can win me over for another shooter, although I feel as though I'm probably going to skip on them for now and pick up a premium release with the DLC (that's right, EA, I'm still bitter about Battlefield 3's 'Premium Edition').

Do you want a Bad Company 3?

Killer is Dead, the latest crazy game from Suda 51 and the guys at Grasshopper Manufacture, is due to release here sometime in the later half of 2013. Today Deep Silver has revealed that gamers will be able to pick up a premium edition of the game at launch.

It will include the following additional content: "Beauty & The Beast & The Lingerie" download."Temptation of Miss Vampire" gigolo mission. One extra episode.A reversible cover.

Additionally, the game will also include a "peeping tool" to help our hero prepare for those rigorous gigolo missions. If you expected anything less from a Suda 51 game; then I'd be surprised.

Killer is Dead does not have a concrete release date yet but that could change when E3 rolls around.

Thanks Destructoid.

Okay, I was about to head to bed but I mistakenly refreshed by inbox and saw that Square Enix had sent a press release containing their E3 lineup. So, for your benefit I'm going to write it up for you; it is a blend of Final Fantasy and Western IPs.

Here's the list: Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn (PS3, PC) Release date - August 27th, 2013Thief (PC, PS4, X1) Release date - 2014Murdered: Soul Suspect (PC, PS3, X360) Release date - Early 2014Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, X360) Release date - February 14, 2014Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX (PS3) Release date - September 13th, 2013Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut (Wii U) Release date - 2013Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster (PS3, Vita) Release date - 2013Deus Ex: The Fall (iOS) Release date - SummerMini Ninjas (iOS, Android) Release date - Available now

Additionally, a special Final Fantasy event is being held on June 11th and promises a glimpse into the future of the Final Fantasy franchise. After the special presentation Shinji Hashimoto, senior vice-president and Final Fantasy brand director, will then be present for a Q&A session with the media.

What will this special presentation hold? We know Square Enix is working on a new Final Fantasy for PlayStation 4; they also encouraged us to be excited for Final Fantasy at E3.

Has Final Fantasy Versus XIII finally become Final Fantasy XV?

[PS3] Sony releases a new trailer for their intriguing PSN title, Rain

Sony's Japan Studio have been on the ball this generation; they've successfully manage to create a number of hits and their latest effort looks like it'll be shaping up the same.

Rain is an adventure game that will be made available via the PlayStation Network this Autumn and stars an invisible boy who can only be noticed when rain helps outline his body. Thankfully, the city seems to have no shortage of rain. Yeah, I know it sounds weird but maybe this new trailer that Sony released today will help shed some light on this project.

So, what do you think? Is it too pretentious for you? Or does it hold enough charm to get it over the line?

Nintendo Download: June 6, 2013 – Animal Crossing, Yoshi, Spelunker, Sengoku, & Sales

Is Nintendo holding back something great for next week’s E3? It seems that way. Other than a big title for Nintendo 3DS coming on Sunday, today’s Nintendo Download only contains two games available today. The others are available early next week.

What is that big 3DS game? You probably do not need me to tell you that Animal Crossing: New Leaf will be available for download on June 9. Want more for your 3DS? Well, you are going to have to wait until next week, perhaps, because that is all this week contains for the handheld.

The Wii U has a bit more growth, but it is not much. Today, you can download Spelunker for the Virtual Console, and you can get Yoshi for the low price of 30 cents on June 12. Other than those two VC games, Nintendo did let us know that Trine 2: Director’s Cut is on sale for $9.99 until June 27, and Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth‘s price has been cut down to $29.99.

However, we do have one other new game today! Sengoku 3 is now on the Wii Virtual Console. That is right. Apparently, Nintendo is still pumping out VC games for Wii, even though the Wii U’s lineup is quite low.

Hopefully next week will bring much much more for you fans of the Nintendo Download. Until then, be sure to check out the full list of all the releases and prices below, along with the official press release, straight from Nintendo of America. And be sure to let us know what game(s) or apps get you excited to play. Let us know in the comments below or in our forums!

[PC, PS3, X360] Mobius trailer for Metro: Last Light released as a thank you to fans

[PC, PS3, X360] Mobius trailer for Metro: Last Light released as a thank you to fans
[Image: game-news-image-2013-8b4d2278eb81f4c32f3...1e09c2.jpg]
Metro: Last Light managed to move more copies in its opening week than Metro 2033 did in three months; naturally this is largely thanks to the decision to release on PlayStation 3 as well as Xbox 360 and PC but I also like to think it's because the game itself is fantastic.

As a thank you to fans, 4A Games and Deep Silver have released a special trailer titled 'The Mobius' as a thank you to their fans. For those who are wondering this specific trailer was pieced together by Alexander Bereznyak over several months. He was originally employed as a capture artist at 4A Studios but soon it became apparent that the production team required his talent; as a result he took on the role of lead technical artist.

The season pass for Metro: Last Light is currently available; if you haven't picked up the game yet I sincerely urge you to consider doing so soon.

[PS4, X1] Tim Schafer believes that Microsoft need to carefully consider the indies

[PS4, X1] Tim Schafer believes that Microsoft need to carefully consider the indies
[Image: game-news-image-2013-be63d164ffb2380aa78...ded29d.jpg]
Independent developers have given a whole lot of great games over the last few years, so one can only imagine that this is a trend that will continue as game budgets start to bloat and gamers start looking for cheaper (and equally as fulfilling) video games to experience.

Sony has been aggressively been pursuing independent developers heading into the next generation of consoles after having a relatively strong indie line-up over the last few years on the PlayStation Network whereas Microsoft have left a few indie developers feeling uncertain. Double Fine's Tim Schafer has emphasized the importance of independent support.

"Sony has reached out to us and asked us our opinions about what we'd like to see with new platforms and they've been really good with indies - allowing them to self-publish and entering into partnerships and stuff like that," Schafer told Edge. "Microsoft has been focused elsewhere up until now, I've kind of had my fingers crossed that hopefully they'll change their minds about that because I think it's really critical."

What do you think? Indies are definitely an important factor as far as selling your platform goes; however I feel that Microsoft will showcase their independent support at E3. They aren't stupid and surely haven't forgotten that their indie support was behind a lot of the success of XBLA before Sony actually cleaned up their act.

Schafer also expressed his opinion on the evolution of Kickstarter now that Double Fine have launched a new project.

"I think some of the Kickstarters are overcomplicated, or seem to be treating it like it's a store, or milking it for easy money," Schafer believes. "That's why we're putting a lot of thought into this project - it's not another told timer coming back from the nineties, like me, and not an old game or tried and true licence, but actually a risky and new IP."

Thanks CVG.

Blizzard also revealed that pre-ordered copies of Diablo III will include a redeemable code for an Infermal Helm (an in-game item) that can be worn at level 1. It offers a +EXP bonus to get your characters started.

So, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 players will get their chance to venture to New Tristram and beyond on the 3rd of September. No release date has been offered for the PlayStation 4; Blizzard also told Joystiq that they have no further platform announcements to make at this time.

Do you think it'll find its way to the Xbox One as well?

[PS3, X360] Review Roundup - Fuse

[PS3, X360] Review Roundup - Fuse
[Image: game-news-image-2013-69d1ec81ab0dfdbc9bb...7752a2.jpg]EGM - 7.5/10 - "Fuse has a fantastic foundation. The game looks and sounds great, while the RPG systems and frantic, arcade-like gameplay mechanics really pull you into the experience when playing with buddies. But I know how hard it is to get a crew of guys together to do most anything nowadays—never mind play games. Keeping that and the lackluster story in mind, Fuse makes a strong showing but falls short of being an elite shooter."

GameSpot - 7/10 - "The challenge of Echelon is a welcome one for folks looking to flex their skills beyond the bounds of the campaign, and if you've got some willing allies, you can definitely have a good time. And that's pretty much true for the whole game.Fuse is calibrated for people to play together, designed in such a way as to be merely serviceable for solo players, but solid fun for groups of gung-ho mercs."

IGN - 6.5/10 - "This is a loud, chaotic, and fun bit of extraordinary violence in an otherwise lighthearted world, but it rarely achieves the greatness it strives for. If you can overlook the tonal inconsistencies, Fuse’s shallow, familiar shooting can thrive. Success comes when the unacceptable teammate A.I. is replaced by a group of friends unleashing the awesome power of their alien-powered weaponry. Fuse is an all-or-nothing experience, though. Bring a full crew or don’t waste your time."

Eurogamer - 5/10 - "For the most part it's just OK, the sort of game you'll add to your LoveFilm rental list, forget about until it turns up, then forget again as soon as the disc is back in the postbox. It's certainly not alone in that respect, but the fact it's coming from a developer that we know can do so much better makes this exercise in average feel all the more disappointing."

Destructoid - 4/10 - "Whether it's true or not, Fuse does feel every bit like another victim of the heavily focus-tested, leader following, perpetually terrified mainstream game industry. It's every cloying and desperate element of the retail console market, brought together -- fused, if you will -- to create a factory standard example of a game that tries to be everything the hypothetical mainstream consumer drools over, and ends up as nothing remarkable."

[PS3] Review Roundup - The Last of Us

[Image: game-news-image-2013-5c127b4dc04f04d596e...308063.jpg]IGN - 10/10 - "In short, Naughty Dog has crafted a game that impresses in virtually every way. The Last of Us is a true feat. Its unrivaled presentation in particular sets the bar even higher than the Uncharted trilogy already did, and its writing, voice acting and layered gameplay combine to create what is very easily the game to beat for Game of the Year 2013."

Eurogamer - 10/10 - "At a time when blockbuster action games are sinking into a mire of desperate overproduction, shallow gameplay and broken narrative logic, The Last of Us is a deeply impressive demonstration of how it can and should be done. It starts out safe but ends brave; it has heart and grit, and it hangs together beautifully. And it's a real video game, too. An elegy for a dying world, The Last of Us is also a beacon of hope for its genre."

Destructoid - 10/10 - "There is more to The Last of Us than just combat and "emotional" story tropes. To touch on its setpiece moments, to detail its beautiful changes in pace, would be to spoil too much. It cannot be said enough, however, that Naughty Dog's new best creation is complete, and when I say complete, I mean it to pay the highest of compliments. I do not want more from The Last of Us: I do not need more. As the last line was uttered and the credits ushered in the close, I was done. The Last of Us had achieved everything it needed to achieve in order to provide me with everything I wanted."

EGM - 9.5/10 - "The truth is, this isn’t really a game about scrounging for supplies, or surviving a fungal infection that turns humans into monsters, or even the ways in which humans can and would treat one another once society completely breaks down. This is a game about two people—Joel and Ellie—and the relationship that forms between them because of all of those other elements. At the end of the day, what happens to those two people is more important and interesting than anything else that could have been done here, and as the vehicle via which such a story will be told, Naughty Dog has crafted what’s probably their best game yet—a game that serves as a fitting end to the generation that’s made projects such as The Last of Us realistically possible."

GameSpot - 8/10 - "Thrust in a lawless world, you feel the ache of a society gone to seed. The Last of Us stretches on for hours, forcing you to endure the suffocating atmosphere and unrelenting despair that citizens of this world have become accustomed to. And that time spent navigating the desolate wasteland draws you deeper inside. You read letters from people who have long since disappeared, meet groups who have created a rickety social structure to help them survive life's many threats. Most important of all, you watch Ellie grow. From feisty warmth to beleaguered exhaustion, her many moods are always twinged with a grounded levity. Her uplifting nature stands in sharp contrast to the people and events surrounding her, compelling you to protect her, shepherd her, and cherish her. The Last of Us is a singular adventure that looks the downfall of humanity in the eyes and doesn't blink."

[E3'13, Wii U, 3DS] Sakurai confirms we'll see a Super Smash Bros. 4 trailer at E3
[Image: game-news-image-2013-f461a02236fab958c2d...ef39d8.jpg]
Previously we had heard from Iwata that Super Smash Bros. 4 would be shown during Nintendo's E3 stream in the form of screenshots. That's pretty good, right?

Well, I've got even better news for you now! Sakurai took to Twitter to confirm that we'll actually see our first trailer for Super Smash Bros. 4 at E3 next week.

Vooks has a rough translation of the tweet in question:

"I have an announcement. During the Nintendo Direct to be broadcast from 11PM on the night of June 11th, the first trailer of the new entry in the ‘Super Smash Bros.” series will be broadcast. For the first time, simultaneously across the world! Do not miss it."

Will we see the game running on Wii U, 3DS, or both?

Either way if that doesn't get you excited then you mustn't be much of a Nintendo fan. Now I need to make some amendments to the rough draft of my E3 preview.

REVIEW – Trine 2

Game review by Jeremy Hardin

Trine_2_DC_Logo_white

Game – Trine 2: Director’s Cut
Version – 3DS eShop – $19.99
Rating – E10+ for Everyone 10+
Obtained – Review Code courtesy of Frozenbyte

Trine 2: Director’s Cut is the most visually appealing game on offer through the Wii U eShop yet – but is it just another pretty face, or does it complete the whole package?

Story and Plot

The story begins with the narrator telling us of 3 heroes, Amadeus (wizard), Pontius (knight), and Zoya (thief, I mean, entrepreneur) who were once led by a mysterious artifact called the Trine on a quest, perhaps you’ve heard the tale?

After the brief introduction, you’re given control of each character individually (just like in the original Trine) by way of a tutorial level.  First, you start off with Amadeus as he is awakened by a great noise and a bright light.  He ventures out into the woods to investigate the light.  Along the way you’ll be introduced to Amadeus’ levitation and conjuring magic.  After a brief hike through the woods, you come upon the Trine, which just so happens to teleport Pontius to your location.  Surprised by his presence, Pontius explains to Amadeus how he came to arrive in the woods. At this point, you’re taken to Pontius’ tutorial level in the village and the fields where you learn how to use his sword, shield, and hammer.  Once you encounter the Trine, your level ends and you then take control of Zoya, high above the city at night as she is out on the prowl looking for some loot to pilfer.  As you scamper across the rooftops you’ll learn how to fire arrows and hook onto wooden surfaces with your grappling hook.  As expected, shortly into the tutorial level, Zoya sees a mysterious light on top of the old church and goes up to investigate.  Once atop the old church, Amadeus and Pontius join Zoya by way of the Trine and the adventure begins.

I don’t want to give too much away pertaining to the story, so I’ll summarize it by saying that you are on a quest to rid a mysterious kingdom of all the evil which has befallen it.  Along the way you’ll fight creatures big and small, and solve environmental puzzles in order to progress.

Gameplay and Controls

As previously mentioned, you’ll be fighting waves of enemies, especially a lot of goblins, plus solving environmental puzzles along the way as you fight to rid the lands of the evil infesting it.  Players will take control of our the 3 heroes, one at time, with the ability to switch between any of the 3, instantly with the touch of a button as they progress through each chapter of our story.  You’ll need to make good use of each of the heroes in order to progress, and thankfully, there are multiple solutions to many of the puzzles.  In general though, based upon their specific skills, you’ll most likely be using the same hero for the same kind of puzzles.  If there are wood surfaces nearby, you’ll most often use Zoya’s grapple ability to traverse higher or further.  There are times though when you can use Amadeus to conjure up some boxes to stand on, which can give you the needed height to reach the next level of ground.  Pontius can plow through stone and rubble in a variety of areas.   Each hero’s unique abilities can also help you to reach hidden areas, provided you can find them first.  As you progress through each level, you’ll find light blue bottles which when collected gain you experience points to spend.  The points are shared cumulatively across the 3 heroes, so use them wisely.  You can upgrade each hero’s abilities to further aid you on your quest.  I think of one of the greatest features of this leveling up system is that you can remove and add your points as needed.  So say you want to increase Amadeus’s conjuring skills so he can spawn 3 rather than 2 boxes.  Well, eventually down the road, you may decide you want to give Zoya the ability to fire additional arrows, so you can take from Amadeus and give to Zoya, if you so desire.  The possibilities are quite flexible, of course, I suggest finding as much XP as you can.  There are also chests to unlock which hold concept art and poems.  Plus, there are more hidden items to search for.

There is of course the main storyline, but in addition, you’ll also get the Goblin Menace Expansion Pack built-in.  This takes places at the end of the main story and involves the wife of Amadeus being kidnapped by goblins and your attempt to rescue her.

Controlling the heroes is really quite easy, switching between heroes is done with the touch of a button.  Your primary and secondary attacks are just as simple to execute and for aiming, you have an on-screen reticule which aids your efforts.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Modes

Obviously, there is the single-player campaign, which spans 13 levels, plus there are 7 more in the expansion pack.  In addition, there is also the option to play local or online multiplayer games, which does include voice-chat.  I only had the chance to try out multiplayer without voice-chat and I can say it was less than stellar, not being able to communicate.  However, the option use voice-chat is greatly appreciated and should be used as much as possible.

Graphics and Sound

I hope I made it clear by now, but if not, let me stress it once again.  Trine 2: Director’s Cut is the most visually stunning, atmospheric, humorous games on the Wii U eShop.  Often times you’ll be so busy concentrating on a puzzle or fighting enemies, you may forgot to appreciate the environment.  Do yourself a favor and stop for a minute so you can take in the atmosphere, it is stunning.  The various levels, the intricate level design and the atmospheric music and lighting draw you deeper into experience every step of the way.

Final Score: 10 out of 10

Trine 2: Director’s Cut graced the Wii U eShop thanks to Frozenbyte Studios, and it absolutely one of the most visually appealing eShop games to date.  Not to mention, it’s filled with puzzles and action plus, it’s a bit of fun to play and the humor complements the gameplay from beginning to end.  If you haven’t done so already, I highly recommend purchasing Trine 2: Director’s Cut.

+Amazing visuals (stunning!)
+Unlockables
+Multiplayer (Local/Online)
+Voice-Chat
+Excellent physics based puzzles
+Humorous dialogue and interaction between characters
+Extensive amount of content (including bundled DLC)

A few weeks ago we posted about Konami's pre-E3 show, which is certainly giving us the gift of E3, but now we've got an update on the situation.

Konami has confirmed that the pre-E3 showcase will debut in seven different languages; now how's that for offering options? The languages on offer include English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, German, and Japanese subtitles.

There's plenty to look forward to, especially now that Metal Gear Solid hype has started to kick in at last. Will you be tuning in? We'll be providing updates, of course, so keep an eye on our portal if you miss it.

The event will be streamed through GameSpot (including the GameSpot app available on Xbox 360) and Konami's own site on June 6th 10:00 AM PT/1:00 PM ET.

Check out the official trailer and press release below.

PRESS RELEASE

Mutant Mudds Deluxe Makes a Splash on Wii U

Austin, Texas – May 30, 2013 – Pixel lovers across the globe enjoyed many retro-inspired moments in the award-winning and critically-acclaimed Mutant Mudds for the Nintendo 3DSTM hand-held system: blasting muddy foes with Max’s heavy-duty water cannon, hovering over dangerous spikes thanks to a H20-powered jetpack, leaping between three depths of gameplay, equipping power-ups from Grannie’s Attic to reach secret doors, and even unlocking Grannie herself as a playable character to travel even farther into muddy territory by accessing the über-elite CGA levels.

Mutant Mudds Deluxe, launching June 13 for Wii UTM in North America, includes all of these magnificent moments while also offering a host of new features that were not available in the original Nintendo 3DS game. And, all of this with a glorious new HD makeover that presents Max and his muddy nemesis in big, bold, beautiful, crisp, and clean pixels in 16:9.

“Having the opportunity to bring Mutant Mudds to Wii U is very special to us,” said Jools Watsham, Owner and Director at Renegade Kid. “I am particularly excited about the new ghost levels we added, which offer a new gameplay experience thanks to the mischievous ghost mudds who cannot be shot with Max’s regular water cannon!”

Exclusive to Mutant Mudds Deluxe are 20 new and challenging “ghost” levels that can be found in a mysterious parallel world beyond the phantom mirror. As you unlock each level in the “normal” world, its counterpart in the “ghost” world will be available too. New spectral enemies, haunting hazards, and a ghastly new ghost-shot power-up await you!

[Wii U, 3DS] Nintendo E3 website goes live

Just because Nintendo won't have the spectacle of a large-scale press conference at E3 this year, that doesn't mean there isn't reason to get excited for the company's presence at this year's show. The Big N has pumped up the hype train a little bit more today by launching its own E3 2013 site. The site admittedly doesn't reveal a whole lot yet, save for a series of silhouettes which quite obviously confirm the presence of a new Mario, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, Pikmin 3, The Wonderful 101, and New Super Luigi U at the show.

Nintendo has also previously confirmed that a new Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will make an appearance, and we're hopeful that recently announced titles like The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 2, Bayonetta 2, Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, Sonic Lost World, Monolith Soft's X, Yarn Yoshi, and maybe a few other surprises will show up as well. The teaser site reminds fans that the E3 2013 Nintendo Direct will begin at 7am PT on June 11th (10 days!) with coverage and updates continuing throughout E3, and that you will be able to play the E3 demos of four unreleased Wii U games at select Best Buy stores across North America.

Of course you can keep it locked in here for all the E3 news throughout the show as well!

[Image: game-news-image-2013-393df80ddce60b181db...acd5e7.jpg]
UPDATE: Well, looks like it might be a good time to cool our jets about this. Doing some digging, particularly over at NeoGAF, has revealed that this tweet may be somewhat more vague than originally assumed. The response he offered to a fan about Bayonetta 2 was also offered verbatim concerning the odds of seeing REmake 2 next week.

So either Kamiya is trolling us or Nintendo fans can look forward to both Bayonetta 2 and REmake 2.

We'll know in just over a week.

ORIGINAL STORY: Gosh, Platinum Games and Nintendo sure have been quiet about Bayonetta 2, haven't they? In fact, we last heard about it in detail in January.

Don't worry. That's going to change next week! Polygon reports that the series creator, Hideki Kamiya, confirmed on Twitter that the highly anticipated Wii U exclusive sequel will make an appearance in next week's E3 Nintendo Direct stream.

It is unknown how much will be shown, but Bayonetta 2 joins Nintendo's solid E3 line-up already consisting of a new 3D Mario, Mario Kart, and Super Smash Bros..

Who's ready to see more Bayonetta 2?

Murdered: Soul Suspect is an interesting new project in development at Square Enix and slated for release on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 at some point in early 2014.

Now it appears that Square Enix could be teasing something in the not-too-distant future for their newest game. A user on NeoGAF spotted an interesting tweet from there Murdered: Soul Suspect Twitter account.

"disTUrbing nEw evidence fileS in archive. how Does this relAte to the case?"

Before you ask, no I don't have a problem with my keyboard's caps lock, it's almost definitely an intentional teaser. Piecing together the capitalised letters spells out TUESDA, one letter short of Tuesday.

What do you think it'll be? Will Square Enix shed some more light on this mysterious project? Of course, this could just be a coincidence as well but I feel compelled to remind you (and myself) that we're ridiculously close to E3.

[PC, PS3, X360] Get your does of wub wub with Saint's Row 4 Collector's Edition

[PC, PS3, X360] Get your does of wub wub with Saint's Row 4 Collector's Edition

Today Deep Silver announced that Saints Row 4 will be receiving a ludicrous collector's edition, a decision that seems to be about on par with most releases at the moment, ahead of the game's launch this August.

The appropriately titled Saints Row 4 Collector's Edition: The Super Dangerous Wub Wub Edition will be available at launch and will carry a $99.99 (£89.99) price tag. Sure, it isn't cheap but the bundle comes packed with plenty of bonuses to justify the price tag.

It includes the following: 12" Dub Step gun replica - featuring a "bitchin' design", a laser sight, and music from the in-game Dubstep Gun.An additional 8" Johnny Gat Memorial Statue.A pocked-sized Dubstep Doomsday Device that allows you to "drop bombs on the go."

That's not all though; if you pre-order the Super Dangerous Wub Wub Edition you'll also receive the bonus content included with the Commander in Chief pre-order bonus. That pre-order bonus includes access to a Screaming Eagle VTOL, a limited edition 'Uncle Sam' uniform, and the 'Merica gun (America's so-called "dream weapon" according to the press release).

Pre-orders will only be available while stock lasts, so if you are eager to get your hands on this then you'd best act quickly.

What do you think? Are companies starting to go a little overboard with these collector's edition? Or are they giving you exactly what you want?
