Disney Infinity rustles up Toy Story set, makes new pals

by Sinan Kubba Writer RSS on Aug 12th 2013 12:00PM

Disney Infinity rustles up Toy Story set, makes new palsSkylanders rival-to-be Disney Infinity unveiled 'Toy Story in Space' as its sixth play set, along with a whole bunch of new playable characters for the Toy Box mode. The game's play sets include physical figures that grant access to in-game worlds and stories, in this case the Toy Story universe. Buzz Lightyear and Jessie are the packed-in figures, while a Woody figure is available separately.

Infinity's Starter Pack, priced $75, includes the game, three play sets, and a figure for each one. Those sets are The Incredibles, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Monsters University, and they come with Mr. Incredible, Jack Sparrow, and Sully figurines.

As ever with toys, some play sets are sold separately, and Disney has announced three other additional play sets so far. They are Cars, The Lone Ranger, and the newly confirmed Toy Story in Space, each one adding around six to nine hours of gameplay and priced $35. Unlike the other two, Toy Story in Space won't be available when the game launches for PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, Wii, and 3DS later this week - it's scheduled for October.

Disney also announced new figures for the Toy Box mode, the game's communal sandbox where collected characters can be brought together for crossover antics. While we'd prefer Wreck-It Ralph to get his own launch play set, the big lug does feature as an additional Toy Box character along with co-star Vanellope. The other newbies are Sorcerer's Apprentice Mickey from Fantasia, Tangled's Rapunzel, Phineas and Agent P from Phineas and Ferb, Anna and Elsa from upcoming film Frozen, and finally, maybe the pick of the bunch, The Nightmare Before Christmas' Jack Skellington. The newly announced Toy Box characters will roll out starting October through to next year. Disney Infinity

The newly announced Toy Story in Space Play Set, featuring Buzz, Jessie and Woody, will become the sixth play set for Disney Infinity and is scheduled to be released in October. These new character figures will be rolled out beginning this October, through 2014.

Toy Story in Space Play Set

In Toy Box, players can build and customize worlds, and incorporate these new items into their interactions with other Disney and Pixar characters.

Toy Box Characters
The newest character figures announced today will be playable in the Toy Box mode and will also come with their own "Adventure." Each Adventure is unique to that character and allows them to play a short game. [Wii U, 3DS] Sakurai goes into hiding; makes gamers wait for Smash Bros Wii U

[Wii U, 3DS] Sakurai goes into hiding; makes gamers wait for Smash Bros Wii U
Its hard to forget that there is a new Super Smash Bros. on the horizon, the very notion that fans have been speculating like mad already. A new column written by Masahiro Sakurai published in the latest Famitsu reveals the developer's decision to step out of the spotlight.

“To put it succinctly, I’ll need to have you guys wait a while longer. I hardly ever write anything on Twitter any longer, and that’s because I think right now is the time to stop tweeting and start putting in a real effort here. If I could put it a really harsh way, I think it’d be better if I could be forgotten by gamers for a while," writes Sakurai.

We didn't write about it, but Sakurai has taken on a Twitter hiatus to halt needless speculation over every small thing he writes.

“I don’t like it when a tweet or whatever leads to needless speculation getting spread around.

“For example, when I tweet about playing some game, some people immediately get the idea that that character is in the new Smash Bros. Then people fan the flames on it, people start to think it’s really true, people get angry about it. Nobody benefits.

“Instead of talking about what Smash Bros. will be like, I’m just going to say ‘I’m making you wait for it!’ and keep going along. I want to put my all into a full-on launch that really makes that wait worth it.”

So, what do you think? The decision is completely understandable, but I can see why some fans would be disappointed. I suppose they don't have to stop speculating, this just means they won't have any shreds from Sakurai to blow out of proportion.

All we know is that Namco Bandai are involved in the development process and that the game will be releasing on Wii U & 3DS.

Thanks for the heads up, VG247

Heartfelt short film Escape makes a break for Hyrule

by Writer RSS on Oct 23rd 2012 2:00AM

For many of us, video games are an escape from reality – whether that reality is worse or better than the video game world we so willingly dive into is different for each individual. For the little girl in this short film Escape, the perils awaiting her in Hyrule are a better experience than her everyday life, where she's ridiculed at school and comes home to a house of fighting parents.

Nintendo counterfeiter makes $962,000 in illegal sales, faces jail time

by Writer RSS on Oct 19th 2012 12:30PM

Nintendo counterfeiter makes $962,000 in illegal sales, faces jail timeNintendo's ever-vigilant quest against piracy continues, as Justin Success Brooks of the United Kingdom has been charged with the fraudulent sale of counterfeit Nintendo games, according to the Croydon Guardian. The 41-year-old man was caught in an investigation conducted by Nintendo and the UK Interactive Entertainment association. The two groups purchased games from suspect outlets, eventually finding their way to Brooks.

Operating between 2009 and 2011, Brooks allegedly made an estimated £600,000 (over $962,000) selling "thousands" of counterfeit Wii, DS and DSi games. All told, Brooks has been charged with seven counts of fraud, including "two counts of fraudulent trading, two counts of supplying an article to use in fraud, two counts of unauthorised possession of goods bearing a trademark and one count of unauthorised use of a trademark."

Brooks has pled guilty to all counts. He has been granted bail and awaits sentencing, which will take place on November 9. Always remember, Mario is watching.

Assassin's Creed on Kinect makes people look like Fools, also it's April

by on Apr 1st 2012 3:30PM

A dark, cynical part of us truly enjoys April Fools' day. We already have severe trust issues with the world at large, and one day a year we're allowed to look at every single person with a complete lack of belief or respect and have it be totally normal. We're proud to say that while we watched the above trailer for Assassin's Creed on Kinect, the expression on our faces was absolutely normal.

PETA makes Flash game as part of their "Mario Kills Tanooki" campaign

PETA makes Flash game as part of their "Mario Kills Tanooki" campaign

Super Mario 3D Land is finally here and PETA isn't happy about it. Nintendo have pleased a lot of fans by bringing back the Tanooki suit, but PETA believe that it sends out a message that it’s acceptable for people to wear real animal fur.

“When on a mission to rescue the princess, Mario has been known to use any means necessary to defeat his enemy – even wearing the skin of a raccoon dog to give him special powers. Tanooki may be just a ‘suit’ in Mario games, but in real life, tanuki are raccoon dogs who are skinned alive for their fur."

Pretty deep stuff. PETA have even created a Flash game called Super Tanooki Skin 2D, where you play as a Raccoon who's had its further stolen from Mario and you have to catch him.

Riccitiello: Focusing on 3D makes for 'poor returns'

by on Jul 29th 2011 11:00AM

Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello has plenty to worry about at present, but a future full of 3D displays isn't one of them. VentureBeat reports that at EA's recent shareholder meeting, the executive responded to an inquiry about stereoscopic 3D games by saying, "We have not seen a big uptake for 3D gaming. We have not seen a big uptake in 3D TVs in the home. We are not here trying to drive a market. We are here to react to what consumers want."

And consumers don't appear to be demanding the tech -- evidenced by Nintendo's financial report yesterday, accompanied by an announcement of a significant price reduction of its 3D handheld.

Riccitiello said EA will continue focusing on mobile, social and online. Those are markets where they are seeing "really high returns," compared to the "very poor returns focusing on 3D."

[PC] Valve makes Team Fortress 2 Free-To-Play

[PC] Valve makes Team Fortress 2 Free-To-Play
You heard right folk. Valve's smash hit Team Fortress 2 will now be free to play. The news comes after Valve had planned to initially make the game available for players to purchase for free for a week only.

The game will now be available in two different accounts: Free and Premium. Premium accounts are for those who paid money for TF2, including buying the game off steam, activating a retail package or buying an item from the in-game store Mann Co. Premium accounts will have access to rare and cosmetic items in random drops, and more powerful trading and crafting abilities. Gameplay will remain unchanged between accounts and acquiring a premium account is as easy as purchasing an item from the in-game store.

Also announced are new training modes and offline practice for those who are new to the TF2 realm and want to get their feet wet before diving straight into online multiplayer.

Valve insists that the new model will not change their development of the game and they believe that this is the best model to take at this point in the game's life. Download Steam to Play!
