[PS3] Expect news concerning DLC for The Last of Us this month

[PS3] Expect news concerning DLC for The Last of Us this month

Did you buy the season pass for The Last of Us? If so you've probably been wondering what the heck your money has paid for. Thankfully, the silence is set to end this month according to some statements in a special Reddit 'Ask Me Anything'.

The AMA involved Bruce Straley, the game's director, and Neil Druckmann, the creative director, and both were quizzed about the game's mysterious single-player and multiplayer DLC content.

"News is on the way about the first DLC drop. Should hear about it this month," said Druckmann in the AMA.

This month? Perhaps Sony and Naughty Dog will make an announcement during Gamescom, which is scheduled to kick off later this month.

"Currently working on single-player DLC. Talking about other ideas," Druckmann added. He also confirmed that some characters would return, but remained vague about who.

Which characters would you like to see return? Would you like Joel's relationship with Tess to be fleshed out further with content covering the years leading into The Last of Us? Or would you want to see what went on between Joel and Tommy? Let us know! I must admit that at a certain point it is possible for Naughty Dog to spoil us with details; a lot of the character stuff works even without an explanation.

Additionally, what would you like to see Naughty Dog add to the game's multiplayer mode considering that the other two DLC drops will be multiplayer related.

Thanks MP1st.

[XBOX] Don't expect any announcements regarding the next Xbox this year

[XBOX] Don't expect any announcements regarding the next Xbox this year

The marketing director of Microsoft France has cast some doubt on hopes for any sort of announcements regarding Microsoft's next Xbox console this year. Rumours have been circulating for several months now, so I think it is easy to say that people were starting to get excited.

“I am not convinced things will happen this year. Xbox 360's cycle is not at all finished. The proof is that we don’t see the logic in cutting the price this year,” Cedrick Delmax said in an interview with Le Point according to Develop.

“E3 is still premature. What’s certain is that there’ll be nothing new in 2012.”

Joystiq reached out to Microsoft for a comment on the interview, they received the following PR response from their spokesperson:

"We're always thinking about what is next and how we can push the boundaries of technology, as we did with Kinect. We believe the key to extending the lifespan of a console is not just about the console hardware, but about the games and entertainment experiences being delivered to consumers. We have made no announcements regarding a next generation console and do not comment on rumors or speculation."

So, do you think we'll get a new Xbox announcement this year or have Microsoft's words extinguished your hope? This sort of response from Microsoft is expected, it is unlikely they'd openly announce any intention to create a new console before the time was right, so at this point anything could happen.

NMA TV's breakdown of Nintendo's financial situation is as zany as you'd expect

by on Jan 28th 2012 3:00PM

Nintendo is coming off of a pretty rough fiscal year, posting an anticipated loss of ¥65 billion ($839M) despite strong sales for Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7. They're optimistic for the future, naturally, with the 3DS performing well since the price drop and the Wii U right around the corner, but that enthusiasm hasn't been enough to repair the company's trading value.

It's a serious situation with meaningful implications both for stockholders and the industry as a whole, so who better to provide a comprehensive breakdown of the situation than the incomprehensibly bizarre and often disturbing creative powerhouse that is NMA TV. If you've seen any of their other videos, you've got a good idea of what to expect in the media briefing above. If not, you'd better sit down.

Gamestop's Black Friday deals are about what you'd expect, still bonkers

by on Nov 12th 2011 10:30PM

Black Friday is already looking pretty crazy this year, and Gamestop won't be doing anything to reduce the amount of consumerist insanity permeating the American consciousness. If anything, the fact that its sales flier proudly boasts that limited edition Zelda 3DS on its front cover indicates a clear and unmistakable aim to misbehave, in a metaphorical, capitalist sense.

We'll save you the headache of an unwieldy bulleted list by telling you that the long and short of the sale is widely similar to other retail offerings: Discounted 360s and PS3s ($149 and $199 respectively), recent titles discounted by $10 to $30, etc. Check out the 12 page flier for complete details, and when you're tempted by these impressive discounts, remember how small and innavigable the average Gamestop is on a normal day, let alone on the busiest shopping day of the year.
