[PC, PS3, X360] Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 title and release date confirmed by Target

[PC, PS3, X360] Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 title and release date confirmed by Target
This news shouldn't really surprise anyone, we've been hearing about Black Ops 2 for awhile now we just had nothing concrete to go with beyond our own logic. Now it appears the cat is out of the bag, IGN was sent the following image of some Target gift cards that confirm both the game's title and the release date. [Image: game-news-image-2012-a5c87f10d16018a69ef...031596.jpg]
So, as you can see it will be called Black Ops 2 and will also be releasing on the rumoured 13th of November date that been buzzing around the internet. The game is being properly shown off during the NBA playoffs on the 1st of May but it looks like the cat is out of the bag now.

What would you like to see Treyarch do with Black Ops 2? Do you want a direct sequel? Or would you prefer the series goes in a different direction completely? Let your thoughts be heard in the comment section!

Good lord! Bethesda's massive open-world RPG, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind has officially turned 10 as of today. That's something that will take some getting used to. Not because of the fact that it came out 10 years ago, but because some modern gamers (who started gaming only recently) would probably turn their nose up at the game. In honor of such a brilliant game reaching its tenth anniversary, I will now dedicate this post to its memory. Please feel free to jump into the comment section and offer your own Morrowind adventures as well. But first, let's sit back and allow our ears to take in one of the greatest pieces of music to grace the world of video games.
When I first got my hands on Morrowind, I wasn't really a PC gamer. I was still knee deep in my Nintendo 64 and original PlayStation backlog. I saw the game on a retailer shelf and curiosity had gotten the better of me. Hiss at me all you want, but I never had a chance to play Arena or Daggerfall, so this was my first Elder Scrolls experience. In retrospect, I didn't really know what I was getting myself into, but the second I stepped into that world I knew I was in for something special. I can't even remember how long I spent sifting through the signs and face designs before I settled on my character, but it was definitely awhile. Upon stepping out into the world for the first time, I took a few minutes to really take in the hustle'n'bustle going on around me and then set about talking to nearly everyone. [Image: game-news-image-2012-76f6c85c20209832b4c...e66135.jpg]
Ahh... memories...I'm going to take the liberty of having all of these actual memories and jump straight into my first real adventure out of town. Now anyone who has played Morrowind will know that the first quest you are given is to go over to the Silt Strider and take it from Seyda Need across to Balmora. That sounds simple enough, right? Well, I was feeling like a bold adventurer and decided that I would brave the wilds and reach my destination on foot. Unfortunately, I hadn't taken my own adventurous and curious nature into consideration upon making this choice. About halfway along the way I was distracted by an inland lake, which I hadn't yet encountered. When I arrived there, I spent approximately five or ten minutes viciously murdering Mud Crabs, even though I invaded their homes. After I had my fill of being a legendary hero of immeasurable proportions by killing crabs, I decided I should get back to my quest. Unfortunately I hadn't been paying attention and nighttime had settled in. I had a quick glance at my map to get my bearings and set out again, but unfortunately I didn't stick to the paths (as the game recommends that you do) and ended up facing off against a hostile mage. At this point in time, I was not at all equipped to face off against someone who could throw balls of fire at me, so my only option was to flee. It was here that I learned that I had to keep fleeing and couldn't just run for a few minutes and be safe. Needless to say, I was followed and killed by so, so much fire. As you can see, my first adventure in Morrowind was one doomed by my own hubris and ignorance and I promise you that I was more careful next time.

It took some time and some patience, but I did eventually finish that game. And as I sat there watching those credits scroll, it dawned on me that this was one of the greatest video games that I had had the pleasure of experiencing up until that point. Even though some people will look back and judge the visuals and the outdated gameplay, it won't change how that game warped my idea of western role-playing games. At its time the world was huge, intricately detailed, and there was a plethora of different quests to tackle. What more could a gamer ask for? You were given control over what sort of character you were. Maybe you were a smooth-talking dark elf, armed with dagger and a bow. Or maybe you were a short-tempered imperial, who wielded a broadsword as sharp as your tongue. Obviously it was easier to progress through the game if you were decent towards those around you, but no one was forcing you. Having said that, there are still rules in place so if you do plan on being a thief or a murderer just make sure that no one witnesses any of your crimes otherwise you'll find yourself in trouble with the law.

[Image: game-news-image-2012-1affaba3376c4fa7a4e...15a6cf.jpg]
It might not look like much, but play the game
and everything is worth checking out.My iPod still contains the wonderful soundtrack put together by Jeremy Soule, and even though I have the Skyrim one on there as well, I definitely think that Morrowind's soundtrack gets more playtime. Every song just stays with you, especially if you have experiences to go with it. Whether it is vivid memories of desperately fighting for your life against several bandits to the tune of 'Bright Spears, Dark Blood' or actually surviving the night and relishing hearing the playful tune of 'Silt Sunrise', there is definitely plenty to love about this fine soundtrack. Kotaku recently posted a piece about just how good the soundtrack to this game is and I find myself inclined to agree. Morrowind probably features my favourite soundtrack from the entirety of the Elder Scrolls series. Tell me half the tracks on this playlist don't send shivers down your spine.

10 years later and we've had two sequels, Oblivion & Skyrim, and while both were stunning games, neither quite matched the height of first stepping out into Vvardenfell and having my eyes assaulted by this wonderful world. However, I won't deny that a large amount of my time was spent jumping up and down as I sprinted across the land in order to increase my athletics skill, we've all been there, right? I suppose something that is equally as endearing as the game itself is the dedication that fans still hold to it. To learn how dedicated they still are you only need to head over to Google and search for 'Morrowind mods' and you'll see a variety of new things that they have added. From maps, to weapons, to full graphical rebuilds, the fans still keep this game alive. So alive, in fact, that if you have the time and understanding, you can actually get Morrowind to look considerably better than it really should. You can check out some of their hard work below.

Credit to warvon for the video.
Valve's Steam is helping celebrate the anniversary of this remarkable title by slashing 50% off of its price, so if you haven't played it before then you really have no excuse not to do so. You can also pick up Oblivion for the same reduced price tag. What I want to know more than anything is how did Morrowind affect you? Did it have the same profound effect on you when you first played? Or of even more interest to me, is there anyone out there who has only played the game recently?

We salute you, Bethesda, and I want you to know that Morrowind has definitely left its mark on me.

[Multi] New weapon revealed from a future Call of Duty title
We know that the new Call of Duty will be revealed on May 1st. What we don't know for certain is whether it'll be Black Ops 2 or a new title by the underdogs at Treyarch. However, a video posted on YouTube by user FPSRussia may have revealed a new weapon.

It appears to be 'Prototype Quadrotor' with a machine gun attached, check out the video to see it in action.

"Looks like the future is going to be fun," FPS Russian says. "But if you can't wait another 15 years, my friends tell me that this baby might just be in the next Call of Duty game which would be the sh*t. As always, have nice day."

The video was embedded on the official Call of Duty website, so it is likely that it is a viral video pointing to something.

Witcher 2 enhances its spot on UK charts

by Writer RSS on Apr 23rd 2012 8:30AM

Geralt of Rivia's got swagger, walkin' and witchin' to the top of the UK charts for his debut on Xbox 360. The console launch The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings – Enhanced Edition took the crown last week, with Chart-Track noting 98 percent of sales for the game were cast toward the console version.

The original PC version of The Witcher 2 reached the fifth spot on the UK charts when it premiered in May 2011, but that number didn't represent the full picture, since the chart doesn't count digitally distributed products.

Witcher 2 was the only new title to break the top 40, with the usual suspects in the top ten shifting around Geralt. FIFA Street and FIFA 12 both hold the silver and bronze, respectively. Kick on past the break for the UK top ten.

[PS3, X360] Review Roundup - Prototype 2
[Image: game-news-image-2012-4a9f1b2ff93eb00477d...099cf6.jpg]Game Informer - 8.5/10 - "Prototype 2 has officially redeemed this franchise. The mechanics feel the way you wished they would have in the first installment, and it’s a rush to abuse your incredible powers any way you see fit. If you’ve stayed away from the first game because of the lackluster word of mouth, don’t hesitate to jump right into the sequel. A slick video catches you up on everything right out of the gate so there’s no excuse to miss this taste of ultimate viral power."

EGM - 8.5/10 - "All in all though, if you enjoy superhero games, then you’re going to really enjoy Prototype 2 because I imagine this is what it would feel like if you had a Spider-Man symbiote to play around with. There is never a slow moment (although they are repetitive) and the story is solid, if not as good as the first. The voice acting is superb, the graphics are awesome (when not glitching), and at the end of the day, I had more fun than not smashing up a virus-laden NYC."

Destructoid - 8/10 - "Prototype 2 is far more polished, varied, and ultimately superior to its predecessor. It falters due to us having already seen a lot of what it can do in the last game, and the sheer consistency of the chaos means it never reaches new heights and can drag on a little, but it nonetheless provides a gratuitous binge of bloodthirsty mayhem that should amuse anybody looking for a solid power fantasy. While not quite as fresh as the last installment, Prototype 2 is a laudable step forward for what I hope becomes a continuing series. I feel that the Mercer Virus, its victims, and those that seek to use it, have a lot more to offer, and after this entertainingly homicidal helping, I'm looking forward to whatever may come next."

IGN - 7/10 - "Having no impact is kind of the M.O. of Prototype 2. I enjoyed leveling up Heller and completing side quests, but none of it really meant anything to me. Outside of the Trophies I have for my efforts, I doubt I'll remember much of Prototype 2's sterile side missions and curse word-laden dialogue. Prototype 2 is fun, but it sure is forgettable."

Edge - 8/10 - "You’ve played this game before, no question, but don’t miss the chance to experience the current apotheosis of the ‘one-man apocalypse’ subgenre."

Nintendo reports $461.2 million in losses for fiscal 2011

by Writer RSS on Apr 26th 2012 10:30AM

Nintendo's announcement of losses for the fiscal year ending March 31 remains shocking, even though we had advance warning in the form of company forecasts. The actual results, with net sales of ¥647 billion ($8 billion!) were ¥12.3 billion lower than forecasted. The full-year loss was 37.3 billion yen ($461.2 million).

Nintendo said its effort to boost 3DS sales was successful, and that software sales were slower than expected in the US and Europe over the holidays. In addition, the reduced selling price of both the Wii and the 3DS, and, of course, the strong yen, contributed to the losses. The 3DS was actually dropped below cost in the 2011 price cut, the financial report reveals.

By the middle of the next fiscal year (the one that started April 1), Nintendo expects to stop selling 3DS below cost – we assume not by raising prices, but by reducing production costs. In addition, it expects to improve its fortunes with New Super Mario Bros. 2, the 3DS Animal Crossing, the new Brain Age game, and an Asian launch of the 3DS. Oh, and, of course, the Wii U.

[Multi] Siliconera are teasing a Square Enix reveal for Monday
[Image: game-news-image-2012-424cc3b057b15ec3705...b56d30.jpg]
That's right. The folks over at Siliconera have put a new post informing their readers that Square Enix is giving them an exclusive announcement that will go live on Monday. Naturally, Siliconera aren't saying much more than that but apparently it will be an exclusive and it will surprise you.

So, let's get those guesses flowing. What would you like it to be? It could be assumed that it because Siliconera isn't on the same level as IGN or those other big-name sites that it might not be a huge title but honestly you never know. It could be something as simple as Type-0 being confirmed the PlayStation Vita in the West. Or maybe something more far-fetched such as The World Ends With You 2. Or heck, maybe it'll even be some sort of news related to Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

What would you like to see Square Enix announce?

[Wii] New Play Control: Pikmin 2 Finally Coming to North America
[Image: game-news-image-2012-30f8cab62c9829c0bb5...2a4bd1.jpg]
As Nintendo prepares for its big Pikmin 3 reveal at E3, North American gamers will have the opportunity to sharpen their Pikmin skills at the same time with New Play Control: Pikmin 2, which will finally be making its way to across the pond(s) this June, according to an article spotted in a new issue of Nintendo Power. The Wii remake of the popular 2004 GameCube game, complete with widescreen support and new controls fitted to the Wii remote controller, has been available in Japan, Europe, and Australia since 2009, but for some reason was not released in North America until now.

As far as we can tell, the North American version of the game should be pretty much identical to other versions. New Play Control: Pikmin (the first game) has been available in all territories since 2009.

Rayman: Legends Wii U Leaked Trailer!

You heard right, folks! The trailer for the new Rayman Wii U title has leaked, and it looks pretty awesome. In the trailer, you can clearly see how the Wii U controller will be utilized with its beautiful HD touch screen. You can also see the players placing characters such as Rabbid of Rayman, and Ezio from Assassins Creed onto the screen, changing the gameplay. How that works, I’m not sure, but I’m sure they’ll pull it off just right. Here is a backup link in case this video gets taken down. This is getting me all sorts of pumped for not only this game but the Wii U as well. Let us know what you think in the comments!

[PS3, X360] Rumour: Bayonetta 2, did Sega cancel it before it was announced?
[Image: game-news-image-2012-e3e4a2f48a40a802cc0...f69f55.jpg]
A new and incredibly depressing rumour has surfaced and begun spreading across the world wide web. This rumour suggests that Sega has cancelled Bayonetta 2. Yeah, the game wasn't ever announced but that doesn't mean it didn't exist.

The rumour comes via SPOnG who claim to have a source familiar with the situation. Sega's continued restructuring has been cited as a potential reason for the rumoured cancellation. Whilst it is hard to ascertain if the game was actually being developed or only in pre-production it was planned to include a new character from the US military.

Sega announced its restructuring after a dismal financial result this year, fears that Platinum Games have been cooking under the surface. It also probably doesn't help that Platinum Games are hard at work on Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as well as Anarchy Reigns.

Naturally this is still only a rumour and we have no way of knowing for sure until Sega makes a statement, considering that Bayonetta 2 has not been formally announced don't expect anything concrete for now though. Considering how busy Platinum Games are it definitely wouldn't be surprising if a supposed sequel to Bayonetta was on the back-burner.

Would this news make you sad? Or were you one of the two people who didn't really dig Bayonetta?

FIFA Street fights back to top of UK charts

by Writer RSS on Apr 16th 2012 9:30AM

FIFA Street returned to the top of the charts when sales were tallied in the UK last week, scoring its fourth number-one finish. Chart-Track notes the title has now matched the rank history of the original FIFA Street, which also owned the hard charting streets for four weeks back in 2005.

It was a pretty quiet week in the battle for rankings otherwise, with the entirety of the top ten playing musical chairs. Last week's chart-topper, Kinect Star Wars, was not the game more people were looking for, and slipped down to fourth.

The only new release last week to break the top 40 was Pandora's Tower from Nintendo, which debuted in spot 38. Check out the UK top ten after the break.

Nintendo Has Its First Annual Loss

Although Nintendo has been releasing some great content for their Wii and the handheld 3DS, they have reported a loss of $454. 54 million from 2011 to 2012. Even with price cuts on their Wii and 3DS, their net sales have dropped 36.2 percent. Doesn’t seem very good for Nintendo now does it? However, Nintendo still remains optimistic by stating that they will spin these losses around into a 35 billion yen profit thanks to new software for their current systems such as New Super Mario Bros. 2 for the 3DS and the launch of the Wii U. With that said, if Nintendo wants their new shiny system to provide the success that the Wii was able to accomplish, they’re going to need some great launch titles when the Wii U hits store shelves this holiday season. What do you guys think Nintendo needs to turn their Wii U into a hit success? Let us know in the comment section below!

Nintendo Direct time travels with news tonight, tomorrow, yesterday

by Writer RSS on Apr 20th 2012 7:00PM

ImageNintendo Direct, the all-Nintendo-news, some-of-the-time video series from official Nintendo headquarters, is hitting the airwaves tonight. Technically, it's noon EST tomorrow, April 21, but folks in the US can expect announcements from the Japanese feed starting at 8:30 p.m. PST tonight, Friday, April 20. The European announcements will hit at 1 p.m. CET (4 a.m. PST), April 21.

Nintendo hasn't revealed what it will discuss tonight, but it has left us a trail of clues. CEO Satoru Iwata sent out invitations to this weekend's Nintendo Direct on 3DS' Spot Pass, showing him with a giant, suspicious Kirby plushie. Kid Icarus: Uprising's Masahiro Sakurai tweeted to expect Uprising news and Theatrhythm Final Fantasy's Masanobu Suzui suggested fans should watch the feed, Andriasang translates.

We'll have our eyes and fingertips ready to roll for any breakout Kirby-Kid-Icarus-Theatrhythm crossover news tonight, because really, it's not like we had any plans on a Friday night or anything.

Prototype 2 successful on UK charts

Prototype 2 launched on Tuesday in the UK (instead of a Friday, per usual) last week and leapt to the top of the charts. Despite the strong premiere, Chart-Track notes the sequel couldn't match the first week sales success of the original game. Chart-Track doesn't share raw sales numbers, but it did point out that the game had stronger sales than previous chart-toppers Kinect Star Wars and The Witcher 2.

Speaking of Witcher 2, which held the crown last week, it slipped five spots into sixth place. EA continues to have a winning cluster with FIFA Street, FIFA 12 and Mass Effect 3 holding steady close to the top of the charts, with the group maintaining spots two through four, respectively.

Miyamoto said he'd be "interested in creating something new maybe based on, or starting from, A Link To The Past" in an interview with Edge. "I think it's important to bring some really new software." It shouldn't come as a surprise, since he's already said he wants to see a remake on 3DS, but there's a big hurdle in his way. With his work on an original game ongoing the impending Wii U launch, time must be a very precious commodity at Nintendo nowadays.

"To be very honest and open, it really depends on the directors that have time at the moment as well," he said. "Some directors, I can give them the title and I know they will do something great with it. Other directors I'm not so 100 percent confident [in], so they're the ones I'd rather take a more remake approach to the title. It really depends on that as well."

It seems if Miyamoto is confident in a director, he'll give them free reign to produce whatever their vision is. A remake, on the other hand, is considered more appropriate for less experienced directors – no offense to Grezzo, who did most of the work on The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D.

Well folks, it is the end of an era for the NintendoFuse Podcast… we switched to a pre-recorded format a few months back, but we decided that’s not working for us. So, this is the last episode that will be pre-recorded. We have decided to go back to doing live shows! However, we won’t resume live shows until E3, so in the meantime we wanted to thank our listeners all this time. As a token of our appreciation, we are giving away a code for a FREE $20 Nintendo 3DS eShop Prepaid Card somewhere in the podcast. So make sure to listen, as the first one to claim it gets it!

And we wanted to go out with a bang! This week’s episode is PACKED with content… we discuss Pokemon Conquest and the new Pokemon Black 2 and White 2, all the details from the recent Nintendo Direct, a rumored Wii U price point, Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir impressions, Pikmin 3 and more for Wii U at E3, the Capcom/Sega/Namco Bandai crossover Project X Zone, new puzzles in the StreetPass Mii Plaza, new Nintendo trademarks, and MUCH MORE! And Nick even does a fun, special farewell segment as we go off on our break until E3. By the way, I apologize for the delay in uploading episode 75… but that is now up as well. You can listen to the new episode above, or you can download it here or on iTunes here.

We hope you enjoy it and as always, feel free to post your comments/thoughts/suggestions. The NintendoFuse Podcast will resume at E3 with live shows, so stay tuned for more of the latest and greatest from Nintendo! And don’t forget that you can also catch up on the old episodes here, or by subscribing in iTunes by searching for NintendoFuse or by clicking this link. Enjoy!
