Video Game Vault: Diddy Kong Racing

In the latest installment of ScrewAttack’s Video Game Vault, they look at the Nintendo 64 classic, “Diddy Kong Racing.” While this title might not give you as wide of a variety and challenge as Mario Kart 64, it is still a great game. If you have not played DKR, watch and find out why you should. If only this game would come out on the Virtual Console.

Survey Points to Possibility of Epic Mickey 2

Destructoid had an anonymous reader send them over a tip that we found very intriguing. It seems there is a survey going around with the goal of gauging interest in a possible sequel to Epic Mickey.

Of course, there is no official word just yet regarding a second game from Disney and Junction Point, but we would welcome it. While the survey mentions Wii, PS3, and 360, if they brought it to the upcoming Wii U, it would allow many fans to see what they wanted the entire time — Mickey in high quality HD.

Game features listed in the survey include:

2-Player split-screen cooperative play.Mickey keeps similar mechanics with paint and thinner.Oswald can fly and control electricity (sounds more powerful than Mickey).

There presented four possible titles for the game:

Epic Mickey 2Epic Mickey 2: Return of the Mad DoctorEpic Mickey 2: The Power of TwoEpic Mickey 2: Mystery on Mean Street

Would you be interested in a sequel? Let us know in the comments.

Just Dance Kids 2 shakes it all about this October

by on Aug 22nd 2011 4:00PM

This October, Ubisoft will release Hokey Pokey: The Game for Kinect, PlayStation Move and Wii. Well, officially it'll be called Just Dance Kids 2, but make no mistake: this is an interactive Hokey Pokey simulation, in which motion sensing technology will judge whether you've properly internalized what it's all about.

To pad out the high-tech Hokey Pokey, Ubisoft also including Kidz Bop-style covers of pop hits like "Love Me," "Whip My Hair," "Just The Way You Are," TV and movie songs, and other children's standards. The announcement makes a point to mention the inclusion of "the YouTube hit song, 'I Am A Gummy Bear (The Gummy Bear Song).'" We'd never heard of it, but now we have, and we're sorry to be the ones to do this to you.

And on the subject of inflicting things on you, how about that Comic Sans UI? How about those South Park fruit icons?

UBISOFT® TO RELEASE JUST DANCE® KIDS 2 IN NORTH AMERICA IN OCTOBER

The #1 Dance Game for Kids and Families is Back; Now Available on All Motion Platforms

SAN FRANCISCO – August 22, 2011 – Today, Ubisoft® announced that Just Dance® Kids 2 will be available for the first time for Kinect™ for Xbox 360® and the PlayStation®Move for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, and will return to the Wii™ system from Nintendo. Developed by Land Ho!, Just Dance Kids 2 will feature more than 40 new songs, including today's hottest hits, such as "Love Me," "Whip My Hair," "Just The Way You Are," and popular songs from kids' favorite TV shows and movies. In addition, the game includes mixes of classic kids songs like "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" and "The Hokey Pokey" in several languages. Just Dance Kids 2 also contains all-new features exclusive to each platform and will be released in North America on October 25, 2011.

"Just Dance Kids 2 provides families and kids of all ages with exciting new features building upon those elements that first made the game a success," said Tony Key, Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Ubisoft North America. "For the first time, Just Dance Kids 2 will be available on all three motion control platforms, making it a must-have family title. The game will get kids active and moving while bringing the entire family together, laughing and dancing in their living rooms."

Created with kids and families in mind, the game boasts colorful and lively graphics, super fun dance moves and easy-to-follow kid-friendly gameplay. The choreography will have players dancing to covers of such hits as "Burnin' Up," "Barbara Ann," "Shake Your Groove Thing," and the YouTube hit song, "I Am A Gummy Bear (The Gummy Bear Song)."

Just Dance Kids 2 takes full advantage of each motion control platform, providing each with a unique feature and experience for the player. The Kinect for Xbox 360 version of Just Dance Kids 2 will allow kids to play without using a controller, star in their own music videos, and create and save their own dance routines to challenge friends and family members. With the PlayStation Move, kids have the ability to capture their cool dance moves with the PlayStation®Eye, which snaps photos of players while dancing. In addition, kids can select their favorite song medleys. The Wii version of Just Dance Kids 2 features a brand-new multiplayer mode called Balloon Pop, which lets kids shake their Wii Remote™ controllers to earn more points and have more fun while dancing. All three platforms feature a brand-new game feature called Nonstop Shuffle, where players can play the game for designated periods of time of 15, 30, 60 or 120 minutes without having to push any buttons or navigate through menus for non-stop play.

For the latest information on Just Dance Kids 2, please follow the game on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/justdancegame

[Wii] Nintendo following Sony, releasing value model of the Wii in Europe

[Wii] Nintendo following Sony, releasing value model of the Wii in Europe
[Image: game-news-image-2011-ca77e006fc23f6b36e7...06a613.jpg]
Yesterday Sony announced a value PSP model, it seems that Nintendo are taking this philosophy and applying it to the Nintendo Wii.

The new bundle has been announced for Europe, Nintendo states that they believe they'll focus on this new budget bundle moving forward. This model seems designed specifically to lay horizontally and ditches all forms of Nintendo Gamecube support (including the ability to read the discs and the controller / memory ports).

The bundle comes with the Wii, a Wii Remote and Nunchuck, Wii Party and Wii Sports.

No pricing details have been announced at this point.

While it'll be cheaper to produce, do you really think the GameCube hardware in the Wii really contributed that much to the cost?

Gamestop Q2 financials anchored by strong used game and digital sales

by on Aug 18th 2011 10:00PM

GameStop's total sales were down 3.1% in the quarter ending July 30, 2011 -- $1.74 billion in sales this quarter compared to $1.8 billion in the same period last year. A boon for the company has been (get this!) used game and digital sales, which both rose 12% and 69% year-over-year, respectively. Digital sales are up 16% compared to Q1 of 2011 and with the recent announcement of downloadable PC games being sold at retail, we wouldn't be surprised to see even greater digital revenue in Q3.

GameStop also cited lower hardware sales and fewer games this quarter compared to last year, both of which the company said contributed to an overall lower quarter for store sales, down 9.1%. The retailer also reported diminished net sales of $30.9 million compared to $40.3 million in 2010.

LA Noire, NCAA Football 12, Infamous 2, Brink and Mortal Kombat were GameStop's top earners in the quarter, spanning the classic genres of shooters, sports games, fighters and whatever you'd call LA Noire. Crime drama genre? The "character actor did it" genre?

[PC, PS3, X360] Valve announces Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, coming early 2012

[PC, PS3, X360] Valve announces Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, coming early 2012
[Image: game-news-image-2011-dcc175b75df4f814e60...4bc6d0.jpg]
Activision is releasing Modern Warfare 3 and DICE is releasing Battlefield 3, but if you want another FPS option then Valve might be the ones to deliver what you are seeking. It appears that they are hard at work with Hidden Path Entertainment to bring the world a brand new Counter-Strike title.

The new release promises to bring leader-boards, match-making, new gameplay modes and more when it becomes available during the current target release period, which is early 2012. The game is said to be targeting PC and the two home consoles (maybe having a shot at Call of Duty. It will also feature new maps, new weapons, new characters and will deliver updated CS content (such as de_dust, etc). Here's what Valve's Doug Lombardi has to say:

"Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999. For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS' award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac."

The world will get its first glimpse of CS:GO when it debuts at PAX Prime and the Eurogamer Expo later this year. Guns at the ready, we have another big third entry in the FPS genre on the way. You can check out the Steam store page here but there is no new information yet. So, do you think it will be free-to-play like Team Fortress 2 is and like DOTA is rumoured to be?

New Michael Jackson Costume White Silver Glitter GloveThe popular convention of Michael Jackson's iconic Glitter Glove is right handed, but did you know that the "Billie Jean" performance at "Motown 25" in 1983 clearly shows a left handed glove? This proto-type featured rows of rhinestones only on the back of a somewhat yellow leather looking glove. Once perfected and popularized, the glove was indeed right handed and the sewn on swarovski crystal technique was perfected for a more brilliant result.

[GC'11, PC, PS3, X360] EA and Activision's mud-slinging cat fight continues

[GC'11, PC, PS3, X360] EA and Activision's mud-slinging cat fight continues
[Image: game-news-image-2011-fb7fd9698fdfaadf017...069be2.jpg]Golly. I'm not sure if you've been keeping tabs on the situation at Gamescom, but things are starting to get seriously catty out there. It all started off with EA's CEO John Riccitiello saying that he basically wanted to see Call of Duty "rot from the core" back in June. This was then of course followed up by a response at Gamescom from Activision's Eric Hirshberg stating that he had no direct comment and that he believed Battlefield 3 was providing some healthy competition. That could've been the end of it, but no, EA's corporate spokesperson, Jeff Brown, has emerged to add more to the cat fight by having the following to say:
Jeff Brown Wrote:"Welcome to the big leagues Eric -- I know you're new in the job but someone should have told you this is an [sic] competitive industry.

"You've got every reason to be nervous. Last year Activision had a 90 share in the shooter category. This year, Battlefield 3 is going to take you down to 60 or 70. At that rate, you'll be out of the category in 2-3 years. If you don't believe me, go to the store and try to buy a copy of Guitar Hero or Tony Hawk."

Now they are fighting words. Battlefied 3 and Modern Warfare 3 face off later this year.

[3DS] Tales of the Abyss – New Video & Screens

The port will make use of the 3D and dual screen capabilities of the system, has new artwork designed by Kousuke Fujishima, and has a recolored logo, similar to the recoloring of Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Vesperia’s logos. Nintendo Power has confirmed that the 3DS port will be making its way to North America. Namco Bandai has also confirmed that the game will be heading to Europe for the first time as well.

[GC'11, PS3, X360] Debut Lollipop Chainsaw lashes out in time for Gamescom

[GC'11, PS3, X360] Debut Lollipop Chainsaw lashes out in time for Gamescom
Suda51 is at it again, this time with the help of James Gunn (behind Slither, Dawn of the Dead). Meet Juliet, your regular everyday cheerleader... well not really, she is actually a zombie hunter. She has some nasty moves with that chainsaw of hers, so check out the trailer below.
Does this title register on your radar? Or is it failing to bleep just yet?

First thing I thought was that it seems like No More Heroes with a female lead and zombies.

[GC'11, PSP] New Value PSP Model Announced

[GC'11, PSP] New Value PSP Model Announced
[Image: game-news-image-2011-88ec09c06404d64da3f...4f6e15.jpg]
A new PSP model was revealed at Gamescom, this one aimed squarely at those light of wallet. The PSP E-1000 isn't about adding new features, but rather about removing them. This €99.99 model will have a fresh design with a new "Charcoal Black" matte finish (same as the PS3 slim model), but will not include Wi-Fi. That's right, while buyers will get full access to the consoles UMD library, the only way to access the PlayStation Store is through Sony's Media Go software. The PSP E-1000 is expected to launch in Europe sometime this fall. No word yet on release in other territories.

Sony also announced that a number of €9.99 PSP Essentials titles will be released at the same time, including Invizimals: The Lost Tribes, EyePet Adventures, and FIFA 12.

So are they going to give it a special name? The "~PSP Go" seems fitting.

[GC'11, Vita] The WayForward bringing Silent Hill: Book of Memories to Vita

[GC'11, Vita] The WayForward bringing Silent Hill: Book of Memories to Vita
[Image: game-news-image-2011-567982452a47c6aa3b6...49592.jpeg]Silent Hill has been to a lot of places, now WayForward is bringing the franchise to the multiplayer world for the PlayStation Vita. The game will run seemingly in a top-down fashion and will feature some RPG elements.

The screen shot above depicts Harry (Silent Hill), James (Silent Hill 2) and Maria (Silent Hill 2) as being playable characters. The game isn't set in the main canon, and instead takes place in another separate universe. You will also have the option of creating your own protagonist to further remove yourself from the main Silent Hill canon.

Expect more information as Gamescom continues.

Warner Bros media roundup: Mr. Freeze, impostors, Orcs and monsters

by on Aug 19th 2011 4:30PM

Warner Bros Interactive went gritty at Gamescom this year with new screens from Batman: Arkham City, Gotham City Impostors, Lord of the Rings: War in the North and, most gruesome of all, Sesame Street: Once Upon a Monster. We still can't believe they're marketing those fluffy, brightly colored puppets to children. The humanity, WB. Check out all the WB galleries from Gamescom right here -- if you dare.

[GC'11, Vita] Silent Hill: Book of Memories gameplay, but beware of Silent Hill fans

[GC'11, Vita] Silent Hill: Book of Memories gameplay, but beware of Silent Hill fans
So, Konami have posted a brief video touching on some of the key points in Silent Hill: Book of Memories as well as showing some gameplay in action. I'm not sure what sort of reaction they were hoping for but they are certainly getting the exact opposite of that. The YouTube video is currently sporting 35 likes and 790 dislikes. Regardless of that, if you are still interested then hit the play button below.
As you can see, the top-down gameplay that was talked about earlier is in full action, you can even spot some of the role-playing elements. But, as a fan of Silent Hill, I'm struggling to see how this game will even come close to emulating the atmosphere of the franchise. You'll create your own character and set about to rewrite your memories (and learn about the consequences). You'll find yourself fighting against the franchise's most popular enemies, including the now done-to-death Pyramid Head (to think, he was once a creature you would fear).

I want to believe, Konami. But recently you've given me very little reason to do so. Silent Hill: Book of Memories is coming exclusively to the PlayStation Vita with no date set. You'll be able to pick up Silent Hill: Downpour this November and the Silent Hill HD Collection in early 2012.

>Make a game that plays nothing like the others.
>Use the same name
>Fans hate it

I see nothing wrong with this logic
