[Wii U, 3DS] Nintendo showcases European and Australian indie software line-up

[Wii U, 3DS] Nintendo showcases European and Australian indie software line-up
Nintendo managed to showcase a bunch of independent software being developed by a group of European and Australian developers during their Nintendo Direct streams.

Here's a video showcasing some of the games in action.

Indie games are definitely the way forward so it is good to see Nintendo really flexing their muscle in this department, some of the stuff shown looks very interesting as well.

Did anything catch your eye?

Soul Sacrifice is looking like a pretty good reason to consider picking up a PlayStation Vita; if you are still on the fence then this new video might help nudge you over the line.

Olivier Banal, European Producer on Soul Sacrifice, walks you through some of the game's features, it's worth a look.

Soul Sacrifice will be available on the Vita for on April 30th in America and May 1st in Europe.

Thanks PlayStation Access.

New European Wii model loses GameCube compatibility

by on Aug 17th 2011 9:45AM

It's officially a trend. One day after Sony introduced a cheaper, less functional PSP for Europe, Nintendo has announced a new "value Wii" for the region, though no price was given. The new Wii, according to Nintendo UK, is designed to sit horizontally instead of vertically (although the original Wii can technically do both, so we aren't sure what the distinction is). The other major alteration is the loss of GameCube backward compatibility -- both games and accessories.

This new model (we've dubbed it the "Wii Jr.") will be released sometime before Christmas, in a bundle with a Wii Remote Plus, Nunchuk, Wii Party and Wii Sports. Other bundles will also be forthcoming. Eurogamer posted the above picture, and also got word from Nintendo that the company will "focus on the new Wii Bundle/s going forward," suggesting it won't coexist with the current model. Bye, GameCube!

[PS3, X360] Catherine has managed to charm her way into getting a European release

[PS3, X360] Catherine has managed to charm her way into getting a European release
[Image: game-news-image-2011-8f2e20e0b839d3e4d32...696958.jpg]
Catherine releases across America next week, but things had been quiet on the European front. Atlus teased at a European release but stated that a company hadn't stepped forward to take on the responsibility.

Luckily all of that has changed now. Germany's USK has published a classification for Catherine's European release. The rating is only up for the Xbox 360 version at this point, but that doesn't mean it won't release on PlayStation 3 as well.

The European release is being handled by Koch Media according to the USK, if they don't sound familiar then you might know their other label (Deep Silver). Deep Silver are responsible for the upcoming Dead Island.

by on Mar 31st 2011 10:00PM

Citing figures obtained by the NPD Group and International Data Group, GameStop included gaming hardware install base statistics for the U.S. and Europe in its latest annual report. According to the data, the U.S. hardware market stood at over 249 million units as of December 2010, with current-generation consoles ranked as follows: Nintendo DS - 47.3 millionNintendo Wii - 34.2 millionXbox 360 - 25.4 millionPSP - 19 millionPS3 - 15.4 millionIn Europe, the total gaming hardware install base is roughly 153 million, according to IDG data from December 2010. The report breaks down that number, too:

[PSP] Persona 3 Portable Finally Receives a European Publisher

[PSP] Persona 3 Portable Finally Receives a European Publisher American and Japanese Persona fans have been plugging away at the PSP version of Persona 3 since last year whilst European fans were left waiting anxiously. Thankfully some relief has come and a publisher has been confirmed for Persona 3 Portable.

The port will be published by Ghostlight, who also worked alongside Atlus to publish Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne. No official date or pricing details have been locked in yet, but Ghostlight have announced that there will be a special collector's edition when the game does go on sale.

Persona 3 Portable features tweaks upon the original PlayStation 2 outing including a tweaked story, new social links and a battle system that has been revised and based around the one featured in Persona 4. We'll drop word here when the release date is announced.
