[Multi] President of Epic Games announces retirement

It's been quite an epic year for venerable game developer Epic Games (oh yes, I just did that). The Gears of War and Unreal Engine developer has seen the departure of design director Cliff Bleszinski and director of production Rod Fergusson, while acquiring Bulletstorm developer People Can Fly (which saw several major departures itself) and hiring much of the talent from the late Kingdoms of Amalur developer Big Huge Games into a new studio called Impossible Games. Adding to the events today was president Mike Capps, who announced his retirement from that position on the company's website.

Capps said that he will remain in an advisory role as well as remain on the Epic Games board of directors, but after ten years serving as the company's president, he has decided to step back and find more time for his family, which will be adding a baby boy in the near future.

"After dedicating a decade of my life to Epic, and with so many close friends here, it’s impossible to just walk away," writes Capps. "I absolutely love this company. If you cut me, I think I probably bleed nanoblack and Imulsion. (Wow, just think about what mixing those would do…) Epic founder and CEO Tim Sweeney and other board members asked me to stay on the board, and I’m thrilled to do so as I’m truly excited about our future games and Unreal Engine 4."

"As I mentioned above, I’ll continue to be available as a resource to Epic, to provide context or advice where I can. Whatever I can do to help in Epic’s success, I’m in! I’ve got great confidence in our executive team – VP of Development Paul Meegan is new to our Raleigh HQ, but we’ve worked with him for years, and I can only contemplate this retirement knowing that he and VP of Operations John Farnsworth can manage development better than I ever did."

Senior Wii Bowling Tournament Pits Determined Opponents From Houston Retirement Communities- When the Wii bowling team from The Village at Gleannloch Farms squared off against Willowbrook Terrace recently, it turned into a fierce battle for bragging rights. The Willowbrook team did manage to remain undefeated but not without some very close calls from a determined challenger. One thing is for certain?everyone enjoyed some spirited competition.

?We came close to taking home all the marbles,? said 92 year old Dan Morford, who started and named the Wii team at The Village at Gleannloch Farms?and created a special team T-shirt. ?We told them we were nipping at their heels to take away their undefeated record?and they know we won?t rest until we have.?

The spirited rivalry between the two communities isn?t unusual for seniors who play Wii tournaments?computer technology that turns a large screen into a bowling alley, golf course, and more. Players must manage their controls with skill and precision to win?in this case?taking out more virtual bowling pins than the other guys.

?Our program really began with the enthusiasm with our oldest?and most spirited?Wii competitor, Don Morford,? said Kathy Johanns, executive director for The Village at Gleannloch Farms. ?Don came up with the team name Very Good Friends because it uses the three letters from our community name?V, G, and F. He?s very clever and the team has in fact become very good friends through their tournaments.?

?We know that our residents enjoy active experiences?both mental and physical?and we are excited about Wii because it offers both kinds of challenges,? said Mimi Collins, lifestyles coordinator for the community. ?Not only do they get some significant expercise from the Wii competitions, they bond like any other team into a special relationship shaped by shared goals, wins, and?not often?losses.?

Sponsored and owned by Lutheran Social Services of the South, Inc., The Village at Gleannloch Farms is a not-for-profit community offering 123 independent living apartments and cottages for active adults aged 62 and above. In addition, the community offers a continuum of care including 30 assisted living apartments, 18 memory support residences, and 35 private skilled nursing suites.

Traditionally, some older master-planned developments have offered housing options such as patio homes or assisted living facilities to extend their multi-generational appeal. However, the latest trend is to take the concept a step further and include a community that offers a full continuum of care ? an option that, until now, was non-existent in Houston.

Located at Champion Forest Drive and Northpointe Boulevard, the community is situated on 25 acres and is designed to resemble the property?s original architecture. Architect of the project, three architecture of Dallas, incorporated native Gleannloch Farms stone and wood overhangs, balconies, trellises and fences to promote a ?countryside residence? exterior. The community?s interior, designed by Faulkner Design Group of Dallas, features arts-and-crafts period influences using wood paneling, stained glass and wood-beamed ceilings.

The community adds to the already extensive variety of residential housing options available in Gleannloch Farms. Other Gleannloch Farms amenities include a lakeside aquatic and athletic complex, equestrian center, championship golf course, hiking and biking trails, and highly acclaimed schools.

In addition to a full range of health care options, The Village at Gleannloch Farms offers a variety of resort-style amenities including landscaped courtyards, multiple dining venues, and common areas totaling over 148,000 square-feet. The common area spaces include a 100-seat chapel, library and business center, creative arts studio, full-service beauty salon and barbershop, heated outdoor saltwater pool and fitness center.
