So, yeah. That happened. Kotaku has exploded details of the inevitable (but as of yet unannounced) Modern Warfare 3 onto the internet. Details include story and multiplayer information as well as locales, characters, artwork and a tentative release date.

We'll start with the basics, according to Kotaku's sources the third game will pick up where the second ended. It will see Russia invading Manhattan. The campaign will seen the player thrown into multiple roles such as: Russian Federal Protective Services, SAS Operative, tank gunner and AC-130 gunner. You'll find yourself playing as a number of key characters from previous titles and new recurring characters. It will allegedly consist of 15 missions and will take you across the world to locales in Dubai, Berlin, Paris, Prague, etc. You can check out a tentative summary of the plot over here, but remember to take it with a grain of salt in case details change before it launches.

It also seems that the game may serve as a go-between for old and new characters, seemingly passing the torch from Task Force 141 to Delta Force for future Modern Warfare instalments.

They also had juicy details on the title's multiplayer features. The website says that the game will feature 15 stages, however not all may be available at launch (Activision do love DLC), which are set in different locales around the world. Also coming back is the highly praised 'Spec Ops' feature, however this time it is divided up into Survival and Mission. Survival sees you fighting off waves of enemies who get increasingly stronger (sounds like Treyarch's Zombie mode to me) and Mission sees you taking on scenarios with set criteria.

On top of all of this, Kotaku's sources indicate that the game will be launching on the 8th of November, 2011. What do you think? Activision has been reached out to for confirmation but a lot of this seems very likely. Apparently Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games and Raven are applying the finishing touches. Stay tuned for confirmation when it surfaces.

I'm not multiplayer savvy when it comes to Call of Duty; I barely ever play it. I was speaking of its single player laurels, which I found quite satisfactory. That's what I'll be leaning towards when deciding whether this one lives up to its predecessors. I found my wii!
