Recently a new law, the "Game Industry Promotion Act", was passed and goes into affect from July 1 in South Korea. This new act makes it illegal for any online service to request the real name or age of any account held by someone under the age of 18.

In order to comply with this new law Sony will be forced to take down the PlayStation Store. Sony remains hopeful that they'll be able to resume PSN service in the country sometime later this year. Online multiplayer will be offered through the PSN still, and the store will still be accessible through PSP's and Vita's.

The decision was made suddenly considering that the same day they had announced a sale on 2K Games software throughout the service.
