So yeah, we don't officially know anything about Assassin's Creed III besides the fact that it is set during the American Revolution but now some additional details pertaining to the gameplay and world from the April issue of Game Informer.
The main character is half English and half Mohawk Indian, he is called Connor / Ratohnhake:ton. Yes, he'll have hidden blades as well as having the tomahawk and knife constantly equipped to allow for multiple takedowns and chain kills. There will also be no more target locking in the third main installment, with counter and defense now being attached to the same button. You'll be able to use a number of context sensitive actions, such as using people as human shields. A new dynamic camera will track the action to make the combat and gameplay look even more cinematic than previous entries.

Assassin's Creed III will allow you to experience Connor's childhood on the frontier. The Mohawk clash with white colonists, who in the end burn down their village causing Connor to dedicate his life to confronting injustice and tyranny. Don't fret about the overall story though, it is still focused on the Assassins versus the Templars.
It is set during the years 1753-1783 around the areas of Boston and New York. Some of the main characters you'll meet include George Washington, Ben Franklin (who plays the role that da Vinci in previous Assassin's Creed titles), and the mysterious Charles Lee. You'll see the great fire of New York and you'll visit the Valley Forge when it is occupied by Washington's forces.
This time the world is centered on The Frontier, the area is 1.5 times larger than the world of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. By the sounds of it you can expect the gameplay to feature some very Red Dead Redemption-like qualities, such as hunting and pelt gathering. People wondering how climbing and parkour will work in this game needn't worry, there'll be cliffs, trees and ledges to allow you to set up kills and select opportune moments to enter combat. Also, Connor will have hidden blade, a lot of people had been fretting after not having seen them in any art.
