Dragon Quest X Coming to Wii and Wii U Online

Square Enix has announced the next Dragon Quest game will hit both the Wii and Wii U. Dragon Quest X Mezameshi Itsutsu no Shuzoku Online will be the next numbered game in the series and the first to take the battle online. In addition, this is the first time the game is being developed internally.

Mezameshi Itsutsu no Shuzoku roughly translates to The Five Awakening Races. These include the five clans or classes within the game (i.e. elves, dwarves).

It is no surprise this title will hit Wii in 2012, as it had previously been confirmed. However, this is the first time Square announced a Wii U version as well. This visually enhanced version is supposed to be cross-platform compatible with the Wii game, so players can battle together in either SD or HD.

Dragon Quest X will support Wii Remote and Nunchuck or Classic Controller play. Word has it that it will also support a USB memory stick. Could this be especially for downloadable content? There was no word on Wii Speak or headset support, but you will be able to use a USB keyboard.

On top of all this, Dragon Quest X will contain some sort of connection with the 3DS. As of right now, it is unknown as to what exactly that will include. Maybe it will involve some StreetPass or SpotPass data on the go, but only time will tell.

I will be honest. I have never completely jumped into the Dragon Quest RPGs, but this game might move me to take the plunge, though!

Look for Dragon Quest X to hit the Wii in 2012. Beta testing is said to begin shortly.
