[X360] Review Roundup - Child of Eden

In a way, Child of Eden touched my soul. Yes, that sounds cheesy, but it's true. There's one downside -- even though it costs 50 bucks, Child of Eden can be beaten in only a few hours. While this is a fault, there are lots of unlockables and leaderboards to keep people's interest once the campaign is over. This is a game everyone should experience, especially with Kinect."

Eurogamer - 9/10 - "As with all of Mizuguchi's work, Child of Eden offers a memorable journey and a strong sense of development. But where Rez was concerned with the evolution of the player character, which transformed from amoebic blob to running man, the auteur's latest is about the evolution of the world around the player. It leaves you with a peculiar sense of power: it feels as though you have the influence of a redemptive god, restoring a fallen world back to its Eden state after a corrupting virus. A splay of the fingers and what is broken is repaired, what is begun is finished. Alpha and Omega. Grasp and splay."

Game Informer - 8/10 - "Each of Child of Eden's five archives takes a mere 10 to 25 minutes to complete, putting game length closer to those of downloadable titles. A few unlockables give Child of Eden replay value, including an additional challenge mode level, art and video galleries, and decorations for Lumi's garden in the main menu screen. However the most valuable prize is new visual effects. Selecting a different cosmetic effect drastically changes the aesthetic of each archive, giving the levels a whole new feel. Though brief, Child of Eden offers one of the most unique Kinect experiences to date. It's unfortunate our time in Eden's gorgeous confines ends too soon."

GamePro - 4/5 - "Child of Eden is awesome. It's impossible to not be taken aback by the brilliant orchestration of the stages, their intricate details, and their climactic boss fights, including the borderline inspirational ending sequence. And if you have even a passing fancy for electronica, you'd be nuts not to try this. It's a good game that probably stands out more in today's market than Rez did in 2002, and comes recommended regardless of whether you played Rez or not. As for me, I've played Rez multiple times and was along for the ride just like everyone else, and while Child of Eden may be awesome, it doesn't have the same impact. But with the right timing, who knows; maybe the ride will be twice as long."

GameSpot - 8.5/10 - "Child of Eden is a bold artistic experiment that's also accessible and fun. It's easy to pick up and play, offers bursts of pure joy, and is even a pleasure to watch others play. It's over quickly, but the amount of unlockable content means it's something you can keep coming back to. Ultimately, if you value novelty and emotional engagement in your games, you'll find Child of Eden a memorable and rewarding experience."
