Earlier this year we learned that Battlefield 3's online mode would allow less players on the consoles than it would on the PC platform. We then also learned that the maps would be smaller, but we didn't know if this just meant butchered maps or maps that are appropriated to accommodate the smaller player number.

DICE have stepped back onto the scene to clarify what exactly they were doing with the 'smaller' maps for Battlefield 3's console version.

"More or less. When we say they are smaller, it's not that we have cut them in half. But we tried to compact them slightly to keep the action up. If you compare it to Battlefield: Bad Company 2, the maps weren't really small on console. We actually had huge maps even for console."

His point about the maps in Bad Company 2 is a good one, those maps are definitely a decent size and it becomes even more obvious when you spawn at your base when no vehicles are around.

Oh, and they also confirmed that jets will be available for console users.

Battlefield 3 releases on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this October.
