Battlefield 3 allows 64 players online in PC and 24 online in the console version, but allegedly the game is technically possible of pulling off 256 player clashes.
This information comes from DICE CEO Patrick Soderlund, he claims that their upcoming shooter could handle the same amount of players as the massive shooter, MAG (who currently reigns as king as far as player quantity goes).
"A lot of people ask us about 64 versus 128 or 256 players. Technically, we can go to 256, we've tried it," he told Atomic MPC, "We play tested with 128. You've got to make a game that's fun to play and, arguably, we think that the most fun you can have is when it's between 32 and 40 players."
Not much has been said about Battlefield 3's online features, it seems EA are playing their hand close to their chest. But it was revealed that the game would feature dedicated servers, which should come as a relief to many.
