Nintendo is not quite ready to abandon the original DS in the wake of the recent launch of the 3DS. A new Kirby title for the DS was revealed in the latest issue of Famitsu magazine in Japan, called Atsumete! Kirby (which apparently roughly translates to Gather! Kirby).
The new game will once again feature the traditional side-scrolling gameplay and colourful environments filled with cutesy-looking creatures, but the core gameplay concept is something entirely new. Instead of the usual routine of sucking up enemies to gain their abilities, players will be able to control up to ten Kirbys at the same time. Touching the screen will make a star appear which the Kirbys will follow, conquering obstacles and dispatching enemies in numbers. Double-tapping the screen will make the Kirbys run toward the star and eventually latch on, allowing for more direct control. If a Kirby dies, you can even direct another Kirby to resurrect him before he makes an angelic ascent to the heavens.
Atsumete! Kirby is due for release on the DS before the end of the year in Japan. There was also a trailer for a Wii Kirby game shown in Nintendo's release report earlier in the year, but no further details on that game have been released.

Along with tumblr and dogging? I jest!
Good to know Kirby is getting some more attention. Good platforming series at heart.
